  1. I just got this email from my wife; this was distributed to her company by their IT mgr...
  2. YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST! It takes less than a minute . Work this out as you read ... Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out. 1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10) 2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold) 3. Add 5 4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator 5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1755 .... If you haven't, add 1754. 6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born. You should have a three digit number the first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week). The next two numbers are YOUR AGE!
  3. That's one of the things the split ring does well; it keeps the two loops separated to reduce friction (which of course results in heat/shrinkage) between centerline and bridle loops.
  4. Yes, it will go right through. And depending on the grommet size of your bag, a reserve slink can do that as well. Plus, where are you going to get "one" slink anyway? As I've mentioned, the split ring is cheap and very good for the purpose.
  5. Here's a "bunch" of bubbles to pop... http://fun.from.hell.pl/2003-11-24/bubblewrap.swf Oh, I recommend the manic mode.
  6. That darn Sandy Reid has gone and copied me again! I think I'll have my people get in touch with his people.
  7. http://www.riggingsolutions.us/smart_links.htm Hey, Gus, that's a pretty nice looking way to do it! Certainly if some split rings with sharp edges can tear a canopy, that's no good. So no metal at all of course is better. I'll PM you about coming to Chester soon and bring some demo canopies. Thanks!
  8. Yes, I've thought of that. But it seems to me that the cheap split rings have a sharp edge, while a good one has smooth beveled edges at the ends. I'd certainly hate to recommend a procedure that would end up tearing canopies!
  9. I don't think that's what is suggested in that thread; the use of a slink to attach the bridle to the canopy is what that thread is about. Now, I do know that Mike Gruwell suggests using a tandem (or reserve) Slink for the bridle/bag assembly, but my problem with that is purely monetary. Now if PD gave you 5 in a set, that would be a different story.
  10. Yes, I've had a Javelin bag that was made that way; but it's a bit easier and cheaper for most jumpers to plunk down a quarter at the hardware store!
  11. Ever since the advent of the collapsable pilot chute, one thing has really caught my attention; using a connector link as the retainer to hold the bag and pilot chute together creates extremely rapid wear to the "loops" in the bridle. The culprit, of course, is the hex-shape of the nut on the connector link. Its sharp edges literally cut through the bridle loops in most cases in a relatively short period of time. Many a main pilot chute has been replaced only because these loops are damaged, when the rest of the assembly is in good condition. About five years ago, I began using a split ring instead of a Rapide link to hold my bag and pilot chute together. A split ring is, of course, a good old round key ring from the hardware store. The attached picture shows my bag and pilot chute after five years' use, and as you can see there is no wear to the loops on the bridle. This assembly has hundreds and hundreds of jumps on it in this configuration. I highly recommend replacement of the Rapide link with a split ring. It'll make your pilot chute bridle last a lot longer. Three things to know about using a split ring; first, get a ring that is made of heavy-guage steel. Don't use a cheap, thin ring, or it can bend. Secondly, make sure the ring is larger than the hole in your bag's grommet, but smaller than the outside diameter of the grommet itself. And, now that I've heard some rings can have sharp edges, make sure the ring you use has nice beveled edges at the ends to avoid canopy damage. Attached picture shows the assembly, and beside it a sample of a good split ring.
  12. And let's not forget the "original" canopy that was (is) fitted with continuous lines of HMA; Precision didn't come up with this on their own!
  13. Yes, your Raven "G" version is what is called the Super Raven. The original post asked about revision "B", which was adding the bikini slider to the old-style (non Super Raven) canopy. The canopies designated as "Super Raven", those made after Mar. 88 (pretty sure about that date) do not require the use of the bikini slider. It is an entirely different canopy design. The only thing in common is the name.
  14. To the best of my recollection, you're talking about the original style Raven in both cases (those made before Mar. 88 I think). Anyway, the "B" designation was when they began shipping with the bikini slider from the factory, instead of needing to retrofit the canopy with the bikini slider. I would not use one of these as a reserve parachute. They usually open very slowly.
  15. Think you can carve a pretty good Jack-O-Lantern? Check these out! http://www.hiperusa.com/PumpkinFaces.pps
  16. Yes, Billy, didn't you notice him raise his ass cheek up? And since you don't hear so well, I can't believe you don't have a computer equipped with a smell card
  17. My big gripe with itunes is the software won't allow you to drag and drop back and forth pc to ipod and ipod to pc. For instance if I want to delete a song from my ipod, with itunes i have to delete it from my library then sync the ipod to delete it from the ipod. Imagine the problems of having 50 gigs of music on my pc and having a 20 gig ipod if you can't easily manage what's in the ipod and still leave the music on the pc.
  18. And don't listen to JelloJay, he'll have you smash up your ipod and go buy a mp3 player Oh, and Jay, I started using a small program called Anapod Explorer for my ipod and it allows you to just drag and drop back and forth between pc and ipod; it just treats your ipod as a removable drive via the firewire card. You are correct in your earlier posts that itunes sucks
  19. No, wma is windows audio format, cd's are completely their own data, and of course very large files. You really want to use the AAC format that the Ipod likes best; it gives better sound quality than the same size mp3 file. Several download sites allow you to download in ipod format instead of mp3.

  22. I can state without reservation that the Gelvenor ZP fabric we use in the Nitro and Blade canopies is the "whitest of white" canopy fabric; I was reluctant to build the first few canopies with white in them, but after several hundred jumps the white is still actually white! ps... I think I should be on a Tide commercial
  23. You've been sucked in by marketing hype. Airlocked canopies don't offer any protection whatsoever against the dangers of jumping in turbulent conditions.
  24. Oh, no... the "gubment" gunna cut yo check in half! http://www.hiperusa.com/mycheck.mp3
