  1. I'll probably be passing through in a couple of weeks...when are the mardi gras festivities?
  2. It's all about the books on tape! When do you leave? I should be arriving around the first of March.
  3. Uh, no. That is most definitely not what I ordered. I will stop by Vandalia, IL where it will be sunny and 68. I will then proceed to Memphis to Elvisify. From there I will head to West Tennessee Skydiving where the wind will have picked up to an annoying 10 mph, but the temperature will have risen with it, to 80. By the time I get to New Mexico, Arizona and California, I will be in shorts and a tank top, cranking the AC and yodelling at top volume. Thank you and goodnight.
  4. I know, but my main destination is the Grand Canyon and aside from that, I'm trying for the shortest route, hence 40.
  5. The greats have been trying to answer that question for centuries. I can't even begin to tackle it.
  6. So, I'm leaving Feb. 13 to drive across the country. I'm basically taking route 40 the whole way and might want to stop along the road for a jump or 7. Are there any DZ's right off the highway or nearby? Are they open 7 days a week? Am I in the right forum? Does this blow the whole structural integrity of DZ.com? Thanks y'all.
  7. Or making sure our great nation isn't threatened by people marrying the ones they love, regardless of sex. This is clearly compromising the security of homophobes everywhere.
  8. Thanks y'all, excellent weekend. Can't wait to get back for good. See ya in March! Aviva
  9. I'll be there and flying in the form of freedom...
  10. I guess one of the points I'm trying to make here is that it shouldn't be marginalized to the point where a woman ordering a rig must remember to go out of her way to bring up this topic. It's not like having a physical difference that you must specifically, individually deal with. All women have breasts, regardless of size or positioning, so, regardless of the extra time it would take, custom rigs should take that into account.
  11. Asking if you're male or female doesn't really solve the problem. It doesn't give any indication of where one desires their chest strap to be. Sure women might want it in varying places, so perhaps a section on order forms can measure distance from shoulder to bottom of the breast, then ask if you prefer the strap to be above, on, or under the breasts. Seems like a simple thing to do to increase comfort for a large segment of the community. Side note: I did send back my rig to have the strap lowered and it's now comfy and perfect. I got it in wonderful time and am very happy with it. I am suggesting a way I think manufacturers could improve their service for custom rigs.
  12. I recently bought a custom Wings container. It fit great all around, except for the chest strap. It was about an inch too high, so it cut right across my breasts instead of tucking comfortably bellow them. Dave at Sunshine factory helped me out, I sent it back and in amazingly quick time the chest strap was lowered and I had my rig back. Amazon mentioned a similar problem with an Infiniti in another thread. I'm curious if there is a manufacturer who now takes into account the fact that women have breasts and therefore another measurement to deal with when customizing a rig. If not why not? It seems there are enough women in the sport now, that this should be standard. The distance from shoulder to breast should be measured to position the chest strap comfortably. Is there a reason this isn't the case?

  16. 5 right. I hang my head in shame. Clearly, I've been away too long.
  17. You mentioned that we announce "winds aloft" on every jump run to determine separation time. What's announced is groundspeed. If you really thought the winds aloft were 90, or 110, or whatever WAS announced, maybe you shouldn't have exited. Edited to add: The winds at 3k, 9k and 12k are posted for am and pm, above manifest, just like at most dzs.
  18. I have boobs. I'm just sayin, don't dish it if you can't take it. Scathing insults were hurled before I entered the fray. To be helpful and un-mean (I'm allowed to make up words, since it's intentional) there's a "Check Spelling" button where you write your reply. you're. It's not babe bashing, it's bad-taste post bashing. This isn't a gender issue...well, except for the constant accusations of skankiness and sluttery flying around. I'm not mad. I'm bored.
  19. When I was shopping for reserves recently I checked out the Smart too. From everything I read/heard, it is equivalent to the PD reserves in quality and performance. Dave from Sunshine Factory actually told me that he trusts it as much as PDs. It is cheaper because it is newer, and won't have as high a resale value, but it's the only other reserve I would buy after grilling many, many experienced skydivers and riggers.
  20. she "flonts" herself as a dumb blonde, huh? what's that there quote about judging, lest ye be judged or sumpin? Golden rule: when insulting another's intelligence, use real words.
  21. A couple bad experiences, all post 9/11 since I didn't start skydiving until after. British Airways flight to Tel Aviv: security kept passing me up the chain of command saying they'd have to open my reserve, until I demanded to speak with the pilot who was a skydiver and let me box it up and put it under the plane. I've checked it on all my travels since. Delta flight back from Florida about a month ago, I got home, opened my luggage, and my main was open. This is against policy to do out of the sight of the rig owner and I've received some written apologies, but it still made me nervous...
  22. So would it count as a hook turn when he landed off and downwinded into farm equipment, resulting in a trip to the hospital? Kidding, Rahlmo, you know I love ya.
