  1. Visiting the tunnel with a qualified AFF Instructor helps a lot. My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  2. the swivel mount from BH is screwed on top of the helmet, so you can unscrew it and remove it. I'd just use the adhesive mount that comes with the gopro tho :) My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  3. Hey man every single skydiver has felt what you feel right now. Remember, all the skygods had only had 1 jump once upon a time. I was scared shitless till my first student solo (jump14) and still got nervous from time to time. It DOES get better. If it's that hard to force ourselves out a plane, no one would be jumping, right? Give yourself a second shot and simply step out when the time comes. Just one step, that's all it takes. How many steps do you walk a day brother? 10 thousand? All it takes up there to jump is ONE small step. Not that hard when you look at it that way eh? Best of luck to you My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  4. Vortex containers are manufactured by Parachute Systems in South Africa, not the US. Their canopies, however, are made in the US. My volt is made in the US. My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  5. Great looking rig and photos!!! I pm'ed you with some questions. My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  6. I'd be careful about their credibility because their CHB-SKS-1016 is exactly the same as Intrudair's freefly suit. http://intrudair.hu/skydivesuit_freefly.html I know for a fact that Intrudair is a legit company, so that leads to the question that why does Chab Leather Skydive Suits put up a fake? 7. You can look into basejumping protection for the leg which includes a knee guard, shin guard, and ankle brace. A good combination is a knee/shin guard + Hanwag sky boots. https://www.apexbase.com/protective-gear My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  8. In general, 1:1 +-0.05 wingloading. Wingloading = exit weight/sqft of canopy. Exit weight is the weight with all your gear on. My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  9. yes you can do flips and barrel rolls in the tunnel, but not at your level. The tunnel is much less forgiving than the sky given its physical constraints. For Cat E jumps I'd say just say f*ck it and do the flips and arch. You'll be just fine :) My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  10. I want to be clear that I was reciting PS officials' emails, and the lead time of 12-14 weeks only apply to new orders. And yes as pchapman said it would be interesting to know how PS manages to not affect either production line dealing with the massive recall My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  11. I emailed PS a few days ago regarding the vortex order I put in by late December last year. It turned out that PS reopened their factory on January 15th, and lead times for new containers have lengthened from the previous 10-12 weeks to 12-14 weeks. I was expecting my rig in March but they said it is to be delivered by the end of April.. so I think you should also expect a lead time of 4 months from now. Sad news but guess we'll just have to live with it. My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  12. Hi! I'm a newly licensed jumper, just gonna share my own experience here. I did my first 10 minutes in the tunnel after I failed my AFF CAT B, and second 10 minutes for my CAT D jumps. It's great that you want to use the tunnel before hitting the sky. IMO, 10 minutes are enough (at least for me) to get a stable belly to earth position and build leg awareness. Another 10 minutes focused on turning made me breeze through the rest of my AFF. 1 hour seems a bit excessive just for AFF, and the money can be better used on actual jumps. As for rates, many dropzones have special rates for AFF students going to the tunnel. For example booking through my dropzone is $140/10 mins. Also, make sure the instructor that's going to be in the tunnel knows that you are working on AFF, so he/she gives you the appropriate hand signals. (In the tunnel, one finger is arch; in the sky, one finger is PULL) You do not want to get that mixed up Besides, you can't build altitude awareness in the tunnel. This can potentially be very dangerous for an AFF student because in the sky nothing is more important than knowing your altitude and PULL. Neither of which can be learned in the tunnel. I'd say book 10 minutes at a time and book more only if you really need it. Good luck on your journey
  13. Hahaha I know all too well about breaking a bone. Broke my left ankle on my 6th jump due to late flaring and getting a foot stuck while PLF. Not fun at all during the 2 months recovery. Sucks a lot more since I'm still in college. 210 it is then! My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  14. Thanks for all the replies! Seems like jumping a 210 at 0.9 is a better idea after all. As for the suits I'll ask around and gather more data on its durability. The design though it's hard to step away from that My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  15. Care to elaborate how the suits break apart? And did you get a chance to compare your suit to the comp version? Would that be a more durable suit? Thanks a ton! My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  16. Thanks for your advice! I buy from parachute systems and MarS because I think they accomplish the same job as well as the much more expensive ones do. While price isn't the major concern here, a couple hundred can buy me tens of jump tickets . I agree with you that a RW comp suit is an overkill. But cheap custom RW suits are ~$250 with booties and all that so I don't see why not spend an extra $80 to get a suit that's top of the line. If I rip something on landing I'll just send it back for repair. And yes I'm considering a bigger canopy. Maybe a 210 that loads me at 0.9. I'll definitely keep that in mind. My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  17. My exit weight is ~190lb, so a Volt 185 will put me at 1.03 WL. I think Javelin, Vector, G4 etc are too pricey compared to a Vortex. Getting skyhook and all other bells and whistles on a Vortex cost $700+ less. Thanks for your input ! My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
  18. Hi there this is my virgin post I'm a new jumper in the pursuit of my A license. I've been looking around (dealers, chutingstar, RSM...) and asking instructors for advice. I know most of yall will suggest used gear and I understand its pros and cons, but I'm gonna go all out and get myself new stuff. I intend to keep this container for a few years at least, and my first main will already be at 1+ WL so I think buying new gear is worth it. New gear also gives me the peace of mind I'm interested in Parachute System's Vortex container and Volt Main canopy. I however can't find any constructive reviews of them on dz.com or the web. They seem decent and relatively cheap compared to other common brands. Do yall have a chance to fly them or what're your thoughts on them? I'd really appreciate any input. For AAD, I'm getting the m2 AAD. As for the jumpsuit, since I'm new I don't want to rush into FF, so I'm getting myself a new custom RW suit. I really like the design of Intrudair's RW-comp suit, but I can't find reviews of it either. Again, I'd like to know what yall think of Intrudair or my decision in general. The price of new gear isn't the major concern here, just wanna note that. Thanks in advance! P.S. how useful are canopy alarms? It's hard to find an audible that has both canopy alarms and freefall alarms and log jumps in detail all at the same time . My skydiving blog: www.kiwiskydiving.com /// youtube channel: kiwiskydiving
