  2. not quite, from 12k wait 50 seconds... ensure you turn 90 degrees to jumprun/windline upon opening. basically we watched the group before us open and get out of the way before we jumped. the plane just sat there. That was 7 years ago at a different DZ (not mine), Idon't think we would jump in those conditions here, it was windy on the ground too when we did that. 3. Codswollop. www.caa.govt.nz/rules/nprms/NPRM_Part_115.pdf So the NZCAA are not happy with the current format, sport aviation privileges are being abused for commercial gain (at the expense of the sport) and the rules are being are currently being re-written to address the ongoing concerns. Why you don't hear about (most of the) incidents in New Zealand? Because the reports are not published (one of CAA's concerns) and the operators are also very good at sweeping them under the carpet, to protect the integrity of their commercial operations. The NZPIA are the Mickey Mouse setup, they had the chance to control the industry, and they abused that privilege and ultimately blew it. The CAA would not have issued any further part 149's if they didn’t feel there was a need for it. Soon (November 2011) part 115 submissions will begin and then it will become very interesting.... 4. Today we had some pretty strong uppers... at the peak of the day they were up to 65knots at 18k. at 12k they were about 45 knots. We were informed by radio that the winds at 25k were 165 knots, I had to ask the pilot again when we were on the ground and that is the figure he was given. All the airline pilots were changing thier eta's funnily enough. We were happy jumping as they dropped off below 12k to about 20knts between 10k and 3k and about 0-10knots on the ground from the opposite direction. We have a 12k mountain (range) to the south of us, it was southerly, but no turbulance other than a relatively grunty shear layer at around 12-13k. The perfect spot was 1.0 miles past and 1.0 miles offset (due to the shape of our valley). So about a mile of drift. Ground speed on exit was 30knts.... I have jumped in 0 groundspeed before in Queenstown years ago but I don't think we would do that here, so we were close to our upper wind limit for sure... What do you get where you are? We are in the roaring 40's here I suppose. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  5. It can also be a bad thing, if you know you have an AAD will you be more complacent about going low, will people be put in more or unecessary danger by having one, and if someone is saved rather than killed when they go low, will that not teach them and others that they can get away with being stupid? I know 'of' plenty of people that have had a 2 out by their own fault, if AAD's were not around would they be less or more likely to put themselves in that situation? 6. lets just wait and see... this is not a paraglider it is a parachute, opening is an essential aspect of a parachute design and aerosports have not let us down in the past so no need to assume they will with this design. who knows, but them. 9. Interesting all right, except aerosports patented this time, before any body pokes their nose in there and copies it. cough 'z bracing' cough "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

  12. No, we are in Franz Josef Glacier on the west coast of the south island. Click here for an example of a 'Free'fly from 18k "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  13. Hot black tea! A little milk and one sugar. If I don't have at least 5 of those a day... I'm no good. Keeps you looking young too. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  14. at least you have 5000 jumps and less than 2 posts per jump. There are some losers with over 500 posts per jump... "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  15. especially someone with like 50 jumps and over a decade in the sport and well over 25,000 posts. There is no excuse... Less typing and more jumping people. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  16. Our staff do not pay for jumps, we are a relativly new DZ and we want to ensure our staff stick around, are skilled, are enjoying themselves and do not lose the passion for the sport. We get very, very little sport jumpers here, so it works for us. Every DZ that has offered free staff jumps that I have been at has happy staff and good retention. 17. yes it is bullshit, I can choose not use a parachute by staying in the ground and not jumping. But (in many/most places) you are forced to use an aad if you want to use a parachute. a seatbelt failing is not the same as an aad failing. maybe if you lose conciousness and it fails to work, but not if it fires when you do not wish it to and you end up with a reserve parachute that you do not need/want. this has happend with a cyprs 2 on more than one occasion. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  18. Do you consider that the AAD can kill you, in a situation where you would have been absolutely fine if you did not have one? there are always two sides to the coin... "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  19. Bullshit, I choose to use a parachute, and in many places when I CHOOSE to use a parachute, I am forced to have my reserve closing loop routed between a device that have time and time again been proven to be unreliable. yes there are much more times when they have been reliable. Mosyt of the time is not all of the time. Making AAD's mandatory was a very bad Idea. Fortunately the part 149 that I am under does not require the use of them in solo rigs... 20. and you can find evidence of cypres washers failing during a repack (or 10), you will also find that airtec had contacted a select few about the problem A YEAR before they told everybody else. They told everybody else after everybody else found out themselves (the hard way) that there was a problem. 21. Like I stated 'I was informed' it was not uncommon, I was informed about it in a PM (ie. as in by somebody else as stated), and you should be able to check up on that. I appologise if I am incorrect on that, but I have had a number of posts removed for no reason other than to protect the moderator that (seriously and criminally)accused me of something I did not do, (look at DSE's trash can). So after my experiences there I would not be surprised. I was completely incorrect about the threadon the incident being removed, i found it but it does not appear to be nearly as long as i remember and does not have any input from me. I may be mistaken so i appologise once more if I am incorrect I was pretty sure I remember contributing to the origional thread on the incident but is it only a half a dozen posts long now pretty short for such a major mishap. I do not know who to beleive. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  22. Actually I couldn't give a shit about Aviacom, I don't have an AAD well actually I am part owner of 6 tandem cyress but in my Personal gear I dont have one. I care about integrety. My rant started with people bleating how great airtec is an how they are the be all and end all, and I know that they witheld information from my buddy that fell victim to one of thier units failing, he was injured, and thier report said he was not. They lied simple. Now the letter about the sensor recall; I have already stated that I talked to the owner of argus at the 2008 world meet about Andres incident, he informed me that his company was ridiculed for yet another recall (that was no fault of thier own) while airtec was praised for not having to do so. If the sensors are common in all modern aad's then how is not recalling units better than reacalling them, and why wait for an incident. If I am misinformed, like I have mentioned, the reps for vigil and cypres (or aviacom) will likely read this and they are more than welcome to put my mind at ease. but it appears as though airtec is the irresponsible one in the case of their misfire. So not as squeaky clean as many would like to think. Once agian I may be mis informed about the letter but there was no malice in the way he told me, he was more about the flack he got for having to reacall for something that was out of his controll. (so you can take at least one SB off the black list) Airteck lied about andres injuries, they were not overly serious injuries but they were significant and he was in pain and the simply lied about it to make themselves look good. He asked them for an answer and they simply ignored him. Not good. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  23. the sherrif may be his buddy, I would research the law. a sherrif is voted in by the local community there are they not? yoi property is your property, and his is his. If you were skydiving legally I am sure ther is a provision for you. justy hope it is not left out oin the sun! 24. My gripe is that I know the AAD manufacturers were informed by the company that produces the sensor that there was a batch of faulty sensors. Now I cannot be 100% sure of these dates but I found out after andres incident, aviacom recalled their units immediatly and ceased production until new sensors were delivered, it seems airtec did not, airtec only recalled the units afer the incident. The incident was discussed in deatil in the incident forum, here I have found what seems a very watered down version of the conversation. I remember contributing to that conversation but my comments many more are gone. Can any of you imagine such a short thread about a cypres 2 firing on a tandem for no known reason? maybe I missedanother threadbut i sure have looked for it. ...If airtec allowed units into the market that they knew were faulty...then thay should be held responsible. He was seriously injured, he lost thousands of dollars in lost income while he healed and the safety bulliten clearly stated that nobody was hurt....= LIES. Now who is being misleading here? If so, who watered down that thread and for what reason... commercial interests? Safety my ass! What we need is a date of the letter that was sent out by the company that manufactures the sensor, I know that it went out, so if we had that date we can clarify whether airtec ignored it an let fate take its toll on my buddy. Someone mentioned argus has hadmore recalls than cypres, and gave a number, was there a recall for faulty sensors before march 2008? I am sure the AAD manufacturers are reading this, so step up to the plate and clarify the situation. You know when you were informed by the sensor manufacturer about the faulty sensors, was that before or after the incident? maybe this topic deserves its own thread? Back to the topic of the thread; If test results are being witheld from Aviacom that are pertinent to resolving this issue...Why?
