  1. Bill, Jim has not met Windsor but leave him alone, until the guy got a real job he used to roll his own cigarettes"real ones"! Jim, go back to work.......... Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  2. "BOB" Do you know that if you spell that backwards, or look at it in a mirror.................................... James 4:8
  3. There are two issues here. "Undermining an Instructor" and "Student safety". As Tom indicated, safety is priority, hurt feelings or not. The manner in which it's address can change in order to make it a little more user friendly however, if safety is the issue it must be done. Second is undermining an instructor. If it is a personality issue, address it with the instructor, face to face with at least one other friend around. Do not get into arguing about the incident. All that proves is who can make the best argument. Take politics for an example, truth has very little to do with anything, it's the perception of the truth. Also, make sure you have taken the comment in the correct context. Was the instructor trying to put someone else down or educate them in a manner that might have been a little to direct for their liking? Some people simply cannot take "constructive criticism" no matter how it's presented. You will receive many condemnations of the instructor here however, we were not there, did not hear it, do not know what was said, or why it was said so...... Know the facts and be honest even if it hurts. Pride heals most of the time faster than our bodies. Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  4. Congrats!!!! I'm gonna tell your wife!!!!!! Now instead of filming all the cuties you get to strap yourself to them! Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  5. I'm gonna tell Skratch!!! James 4:8
  6. Rob, In that case most aircraft owners will have some type of insurance. Insurance all most ( qualified as all most) always requires minimum hours and sometimes hours in the specific aircraft or type. Best way is to simply comply with the FAR's. Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  7. Skratch has the right idea however, I for one am ready to meet my maker when ever he calls. If it's skydiving I hope it's on my dream demo. Landing on the bow of my new bass boat with my wife driving it in a skimpy nightgown! Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  8. Ed, PM'd you and this guy. I don't believe it's who I though it was so he's probably the lurker. I've received a PM from him so let's just cut him off right here. As far as being the only pilot at the DZ you will not receive any sympathy from me, only beer to keep you flying. Remind me to tell you how I received the nickname "sputter" some day. Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  9. Tom, Great info. Heck, even Ed and I agree on that! I received a call requesting the same information. Send a bill for the research Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  10. Ed, If it makes you feel any better, I don't know who he is or anyone in Arkansas who whent through one of my courses in KC. However, what's that got to do with the post? Still looking for some revenge or something? Try PM'ing me if you need anything, If you are just lurking then don't bother. So, you being a commercial pilot don't need to worry about private pilots flying jumpers, do you? Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  11. I just want to give my thanks to a bunch of guys that worked their rears off this weekend and were successful in becoming brand new USPA Coaches! Terry Wendt and I had a great time and you all taught us as much as we taught you. Remember your Hard Deck!!! Congrats to: Martin Beringer, Joplin MO Brian Halder, Apex NC (student at K-State) Raymond Kearnes, Billings MO Patrick Hupp, Kansas City MO Kevin Nichols, Warrensburg MO USPA Coaches one an all!!!!! Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  12. Brian, Although you and I will NEVER be as good a coach as Shaun.................. CONGRATS!!!! You did a great job and I still have the dollar bills you shoved into my jump suit!!!!!! ( that was a hard one to explain to my wife though!) Now you get to really learn my friend! Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  13. Read Tom's post, read the regs. See ya! J.E. James 4:8
  14. Be as "skeptical" as you wish. Did my post say "when taking up jumpers"? No. It said any exchange of value. If the pilot/owner does not pay an "equal" share it is compensation based on equal value. If your buddy paid 12.49 and you paid 12.50, it is in violation. Let me know where I said taking up jumpers. Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  15. Tom, Right on the mark! FAA has determined and has "case history" stating that even bartering is compensation so, if a private pilot is trying to build time and fly for free, if there is any exchange of "value" you are busted. Even if you are the owner/pilot of the aircraft. Why not list the DZ and let us know who it is? Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  16. Mark, Not to mention a new "hand signal". Woops! Did I mention that?!?! Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  17. Boils down to "ethics" does it not? A DZO can jump anytime he wants at the direct cost of the slot. A DZO with the desire to get the boys up would have taken the slot and not charged the extra or only the direct cost, i.e. fuel, etc. not margin. James 4:8
  18. If you have contacted me or the DZ concerning the Coach Course in April, please e-mail or PM me as soon as possible. The DZO has decided to add a "facilities fee" to the course cost and I do not want this to be a surprise to anyone who attends. James 4:8
  19. Riddler, The best response I've seen. You are way ahead of your "jump experience" with your perception and attitude. I applaud you, your maturity, and your response. As with any type of learning it is a process of "stealing" the best from all and using what works for you and your style of learning. Rules and regulations are black and white, in most cases, things such as ethics, professionalism, and others knowledge may not be. I have listened to candidates in courses spout the same old responses they heard concerning a situation without knowing what is really going on simply because "thats what my instructor said". Any skydiver should leave his home DZ right after achieving their license, take a trip to other DZs and experience the "world". You will continue to grow if you do so. Glad to jump or work with you anytime. Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  20. Welcome KC! You tell Chris and the boys up there to take care of you or I'll come up and put some ugly on them!!! Great bunch of guys and a great operation! Have fun and pass on my love! Blues, J.E. James 4:8
  21. George, "ED". Please my friend, do not accuse me of "attacking" you. Again, go back to my first post and your reply. I did not say that you do not understand. I believe the shoe is on the other foot concerning attacks. I have not attacked you nor did I "botch" an internet search as I utilized the information you provided to this group. After providing you full name I did find the information you presented and you are in fact an Instructor however, that does not change your position does it? Please feel free to PM me or take this to another forum. Still Blues and thanks for the last word. J.E. James 4:8
  22. Still replying to the original suggestion that we consider asking the FAA to make BSR's into regulation. Looking at some of your questions, I guess you didn't read my post carefully. Yes, I am a pilot, yes I am a flight instructor. Check Airmen that you mention are not regulation enforcers and I stand by my position that the FAA cannot "farm out" enforcement. S&TA's and IE's are also not "ramp check" people. As far as "undoing" regulations, your examples are simply modification of rules. The FAA works on the "band aid" approach which is more of a patch than a fix. We certainly have had different experiences with the FAA. I could cite you lots of them. One regularly finds the guy who knows nothing about skydiving or associated regulation and just wants to protect his job. I recall a widely publicized incident recently where the individual FAA Inspector decided a skydiving competition meet was a skydiving demonstration and tried to apply demo regs to the meet. I did read your post and the "think about it" part. I have done that and replied. I believe the thought is the single most potentially damaging suggestion that I have ever heard concerning skydiving. Even the suggestion leads me to continue to believe that you just do not realize/understand the potential end results if such a suggestion were to be implemented. I believe the thought is the single most potentially damaging suggestion that I have ever heard concerning skydiving. *** People killing themselves is in fact the most damaging thing that I have ever heard of concerning skydiving. So. Yes we will disagree. Do I want the Fed's running our sport, no. Am I afraid of them doing so, no. If the USPA continues to be an active participant in the "self regulation" of this sport, I'm all for it. If they do not continue doing so. Well, think about it. Blues, J.E. Boy you guys who like to argue sure do use the cut and past stuff a lot. This is to much work to argue with someone like this..................... James 4:8
