  1. I grew this by chance this year - nothing special other than starting with the right seeds and lots of water. I still have to carve it. Not sure how big it is, but, i can't move it by myself. 2. The mayor was a hypocrite. It was amusing when Al Franken's show came here and broadcast. They really lambasted the mayor - he declined to appear on the show. I have problems with any official who abuses their power, reagardless of party affiliation. I just think the trooper in question is getting shafted by the press, which seems to latch on to such stories like a dog on a bone and refuses to let up until great damage has been done. I'll let you know how his trial turns out. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  3. I personally know the trooper in the second citation you presented. I find it absolutely unbelieveable that he did as was alleged. But, if they've filed felony charges against him, there must be something. I hope his day in court proves him to be the man I know, and not the one the press has made him out to be. It's really sad how the press can ruin someone before they've even had a chance to defend themselves. Especially the Spokane paper - it seems to be an official policy with that paper that public officials are fair game. Oh, can anyone say Kapowsin? Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 4. I have Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, various African, Mexican, and Russian in my class. I often do English to English translation for the students and for other teachers and administrators in the building. It's quite amusing, actually. I understnad them - but I wonder if they understand themselves sometimes. (The students, of course - I let the teachers and administrators duke it out among themselves.) Vint . . . . . 5. My mother had to quit school in the 3rd grade because of religious persecution. She married at 15 and had 7 kids by the time she was 26. She raised us fairly and with as much love as she could give. She loved my dad fiercely and despite financial struggles, raised all of us to be good people. There wasn’t a lot of money for extras, but we never went hungry and always had clean clothes and a warm house. She taught us what hard work meant and what the rewards for that are. She is very giving and generous, and I love her dearly. When my dad died 8 years ago, she wanted to die too; they were devoted to each other. They showed us how to love. On August 20th, she made her first (and probably last) skydive. It was one of the coolest jumps I have ever made. She is one of my heroes. . . . . . "Make it hard again." 6. This makes me really glad I don't live in China and feel compelled to keep up with the neighbors... And especially glad I'm a vegetarian. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/5371500.stm Vint Edited to make it clicky . . . . . "Make it hard again." 7. I saw it - interesting. They made connections betweeen the characters pretty fast. My wife guessed that the bad guy with the glasses was the absent dad of the cheerleader. Wish I understood Japanese. They are supposed to be repeating tonight. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 8. I agree with Krissanne. Mr. Todak's Wild Ride is fucking inspired! How could you not use that name???? Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis

  11. Nope, it's not newsworthy. Just one of life's fun jumps! Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  12. 0:1:0 It was a really special jump, though. My mother, 77, did a tandem and I got to go with her. She had mentioned that it looked like fun 4 years ago when my brother did a tandem, but I never pursued having her jump until my brother mentioned it yesterday. I called the dz and they could fit her in, so, we went up and had fun. She did a great job and had a blast. Had another brother and his daughter and a cousin on the plane as observers as well. Lots of relatives on the ground. It was a cool experience. Of course we got the complete media package - DVD and stills. Pic attached. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 13. The computer will adjust it to run on low octane, but they do better on the higher. I run the medium grade in mine and it does well. I regularly get upper 20s mpg around town and 37-39 on the freeway for long trips, depending on how hard I push it. I have a 5-speed manual, and rarely use 5th until I'm on the freeway. And the higher price is because it's a convertible. Saab convertibles run higher than the sedans, both new and used. Yes, repairs are expensive, but if you attend to the routine maintenance and not let things get out of hand, then they last a long time. My transmission was going out for 15 months before it finally gave up. It was like your Jetta: do I spend as much repairing it as the car is worth or do I drive it until it dies and find something else? Obviously, I drove it until it died. Did I mention I love my Saab? 14. You want to hear my whine about why I couldn't make it to LP this year? That's a sob story, I tell ya... Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  15. Michele, My first car was a Saab, back in 1972. Fun car. 6 years ago I bought an 8 year old Saab with 115,000 miles on it. January of this year, the transmission went out in it, at 193,000 miles. I had planned on getting it to 300,000 miles and I know it would have made it. I looked for a few months and found a 2003 Saab 93 with 36,000 miles and 3 years of warranty on it for $18,000. I love it. It's very comfortable, has lots of power, no turbo lag, roomy, and fun to drive. They are idiosyncratic, it seems. Each one seems to have some little quirky thing that is just quirky to that car. Nonetheless, I will buy another if I ever need another car. Have you looked at the Saab news group? I access it here: http://www.talkaboutautos.com/group/alt.autos.saab/ There's lots of info there, and if you register, you can post your question and someone is bound to answer. There's not a lot of traffic on the site, but you'll get a response. There's a lot of controversy over whether you get a pre-GM car or a GM Saab, but in the end, it's a Swedish car assembled in Sweden with lots of German and other European parts by a company owned by GM. I love my Saab. Did I say that already? Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  16. Machine (computer) translation sucks. The first paragraph translated on an internet translation site gives this (parenthetical translations mine, since the machine doesn't recognize the word): My God! What eyes at it! And I look in these eyes, as enamoured âîñüìèêëàññíèöà(8-th grader), clapping eyelashes and nobody noticing around! Only effort of will I force itself to not rush to it on a neck, with the story, how many cheerful grasshoppers skip at me inside skip and tickle long êóçíå÷èêîâûìè(grasshopper) moustaches so, that heart is joyfully compressed, and I flit all the day long, yaks a bird. Well pure water hypnosis! Otherwise how to explain that my instinct of self-preservation autocratically has gone on leave, and a brain in general? It's so not that and so much better in Russian. Good luck. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  17. It was a great favorite of my kids when they were growing up. It's animated by Chuck Jones, the guy who gave us so many of the Road Runner and Bugs Bunny cartoons. He's an animation god. The snakes names are Nag and Nagaina. Nag is voiced by Orson Welles, who also was the narrator. Great animation. We have it around here someplace; it's a keeper. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 18. What an odd coincidence. I had just emailed NWFlyer, who is the editor of the Seattle Skydivers Newsletter, an hour or so earlier, and she sent me a link to this post. I was asking her about Jack Ady. I used to jump in Snohomish in the 70s, and was wondering what happened to Jack. I think I still have a few Fairchild tickets around here somewhere. Vint . . . . . 21. A local Spokane grocery chain called Rosauer's ususally caries it. If not, their one organic store, Huckleberries, definitely would have it. You might have to go to all of them to get a decent supply, though. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again."
