  1. Hell of a hockey game. Congratulations to the USA players. They pulled it off after losing a two goal lead with 3 minutes to play....and that takes heart. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  2. WOW! 5-5 and overtime coming up! What an awesome hockey game! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  3. I am so impressed by the speed of some of the US forwards....incredible sets of wheels. Pietrangelo gone for 10...can't afford to take penalties like that. It was a pretty weak checking from behind penalty I thought but they have to cal that stuff to keep people from being injured like Hamonic was against the Swiss. Shit 3-2 US....it cost us. 3-3 End of the Second and now Canada has fallen behind by two...turnover at the blue line leading to a 2 on 1 that DAmigo buried and then a brutal misplay of a shoot-in by our goalie lead to another goal as Stepan came in all alone. If Canada comes back to tie this up it'll be a comeback to remember....but I'm not holding my breath. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  4. Don't count on it. The American team is going to come out with a vengeance and won't let another game slip away like they did on New Year's Eve. I don't want Team USA to win but I have a feeling they are going to. I think the Canadians think they are going to win by virtue of just being Canadian...it's going to take a lot more than that. (I'm going to the Bronze medal game tomorrow....what is it with my boss that he kept the Gold Medal tix for himself???) -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  5. Big upset! Switzerland scored in OT to knock the Russians out of the tournament! The TSN article says the Swiss goaltender was phenomenal, making 50 saves....not like Swiss Cheese this time. Hot goaltender can make things very interesting. Tomorrow afternoon against Canada in the first semifinal. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  6. I hope that this game was the wake-up call they needed because they are real lucky not to be playing today. I'd like to see a rematch if USA can get by the Swedes...and Finland today. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  7. Yeah, nobody gave the USA a rat's ass chance in hell of beating the Soviets in the 1980 Olympics. Canada-USA is tied at 1 after the first period. Canada is being badly outplayed by the US imo. Bad, bad turnovers, tentative with the puck and the US forecheck is really good. American players are outskating our guys to the puck. Gotta make some adjustments for our guys to get the bye! Edited to add: Second period over USA 3 Canada 2. Two shorthanded goals by the Americans. We are lucky to be only down 1 as the US had a penalty shot and another wideopen breakaway and both required good saves. Canada looks like they are skating in sand and sleepwalking. edited - Canada 5-4 winning in a shootout. After the USA hit the post early in the third it was all Canada. Scored a short-handed goal to tie it. Awesome game but one Canada was lucky to get the win in. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  8. Never say never! New England Patriots had their 19-0 record trademarked going into the Super Bowl two years ago....they looked unbeatable and they lost. George Foreman looked unbeatable...and Muhammad Ali won. In sports anything can happen! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  9. The WJC (ice hockey) is being held in my home town, Saskatoon, and in the city of Regina with all playoff games in Saskatoon. Pretty exciting event for our city. I'm just watching Canada-Latvia. It ain't pretty, the poor Latvians are down 7-0 early in the second period. Make that 8-0. The big question is whether the Canadians can win Gold again and make it 6 years in a row. The last two years they have played for the gold against Sweden. A few days ago Canada and Sweden had an exhibition game and it was a pretty chippy affair that the Canadians won 6-3 but needed some huge goaltending to do so. They were both trying to send a message....so if they meet again in the playoffs it will be an awesome game. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  10. 10 years ago I received my first iMac shipment. Three days ago I picked up a new iMac. What has changed in 10 years? iMac DV Special Edition iMac Aluminum Intel 512 mb Ram 4 GB ram 8x 13 GB Hard Drive 500 GB Hard Drive 38X 400 mhz G3 Processor dual core 3.06 GHZ Processor 7x speed Price - Nearly $3,000 CAD $1100 CAD 1/3 the cost OS 9.1 OS X.6 I sold the Imac DV several years ago to fund the purchase of a G4 iMac. The buyer was still using it until a couple of years ago. I may buy it back from him just for the hell of it. 10 years: iMac G3 DV SE, iMac G4 800 mhz - the goose neck lamp iMac, Black MacBook 2 ghz and iMac Aluminum Intel 3 ghz. We are still using the last three computers. The G4 iMac chokes on some of the video stuff but otherwise runs great. Only two trips for repairs...one to retrieve two disks jammed into the slot drive by my 2 & 4 year old boys and another to fix an issue they somehow created booting into OS 9 from OS X to run some of their older games. Every other issue I've had has been solvable by myself. Knock on wood....no hardware failures of any kind. No virus/malware/spyware issues ever. Hardware improvements aside, OS X has been an incredible development and the current iteration is worlds better than OS 9. And I though OS 9 was pretty good 10 years ago. Macs have been good for me. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

    Up!

Pixar is now owned by Disney...but nothing Pixar did in the past was Disney if you know what I mean. I love all the Pixar movies. Fantastic storytellers. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  12. Here is a review/comparison of the Nexus One/iPhone/Droid from Gizmodo that some of you may find interesting/useful. Murray
  13. I definitely think that this movie is a watershed event for 3D. Just like when I did a jump on Bill Booth's tandem rig at the Canadian Nationals with another skydiver in 1984, I wrote in my logbook that this would be the way of the future, I feel the same way about this movie and the use of the technology. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  14. Let's add: Buddy Guy Albert King Robbie Robertson Mike Bloomfield And, if we have missed him earlier, The King of the Delta Blues, Robert Johnson, who inspired so many of the people already listed. In the movie, It Could Get Loud, there is a brief scene where Jimmy Page is talking about Robert Johnson while they play one of Johnson's songs. Jimmy starts playing air guitar to the song and I got this mental vision of this young English guy sitting in a room playing and playing to Johnson's stuff until he figured out what was going on. (That was an interesting flick that I quite enjoyed.) -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  15. Just came out of the movie in Digital 3D 45 minutes ago and agree completely with you. It was a visual feast for the senses...the plot, etc, etc....could have been better but I'd go and see it again in a heartbeat. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  16. Hang in there! I know what you mean, quitting for me was anything but easy. But, as stated above....it's worth it a million times over. 17. Jeff Beck - Definitely one of my faves. And Keef - Keith Richards who has amazingly survived to celebrate his 66th birthday today, December 18, 2009. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  18. 70 minute long video review of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I've only gotten through the first two videos but had to share this before I head off for home. Absolutely hilarious! 19. After reading this thread I bought DVDs of a couple of the movies mentioned...Extreme Summer and Busting Down The Door. Extreme Summer is not one I would recommend spending money on but Busting Down the Door is one I would recommend. I know nothing about surfing or the personalities and BDTD is a great documentary with lots of fine surfing footage. I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I just finished watching it...I put it in the drive thinking I'd check out a few minutes before heading off to bed and now it's 1 in the morning and I watched the whole thing through...I just couldn't stop watching it. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  20. You wonder if that was intentional or not. I found this Tiger related skit really funny. Murray
  21. We only pay about $50-60 bucks but I think it is well worth it...not only does he stay cooler but he isn't all full of mats and burrs from rolling in the dirt and prowling around outside. That, and I love the feel of petting him when he is freshly shaved -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  22. That is a lot of cat Dave. Our biggest, Fred, weighs about 15 until we shave him in the spring hehehe....He's a great cat, still playful at 14 years old and until this past summer a terrific mouser. Two years ago I counted 25 mice, gophers and whatnot that I found the remains of. He seems to be slowing down a little. The other two are smaller calicos. They don't ever go far from the food dish. They are about a year older. All three of them were "foundlings" around the time that one of my parents died. We found the calicos in Dad's garage about two weeks before he passed away and we took Fred from some people that couldn't manage him just after my Mom died. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

    Tom Dowd

Thanks for the heads-up on this documentary. Been listening to music that Tom Dowd was involved in since the 60's. The website for the movie is pretty interesting with an extended bio. His was a name that I have seen in the credits on many, many albums and cds...I look forward to seeing this to understand just what he was doing! I found the dvd on Amazon and will add it to an order I am building. Thanks again
