  1. I sell gear for friends and always send the gear out before getting paid. This is because I would not want to pay for something before I see it. Never a problem and I have sold probably 25 pieces of gear. If I don't feel good about the person I get a reference (like a DZO) and call the reference. rm
  2. I would buy used now and (maybe) buy new later. Tons of good used gear available - buy everything separately if needed to get exactly what you want. only callanging part is the container that fits. Don't be too picky about colors. Get an experience person to help you. rm
  3. a team-mate of mine has had his Z1 fall off TWICE on opening (new Velocity). The first time it landed in mud and was fine. the second time the lens was shattered but he just added a new one. If it were me, I'd buy the parts and keep wearing it - these helmets are not rated to protect your head anyway. rm
  4. obviously your rigger does not know what he/she is doing - with racers. Looks are a personal thing - with some of the colours and tiedye people pick any rig can look ugly. all black always look good to me....power racer 2k3 is next for me, no rings, no stainless, pullout. rm
  5. I was not really think of me - more the people who buy a brand new main - like a VX or Velocity at close to 2000US and which are often cutaway more than average. also students (or anyone) who somehow get hurt or disoriented and land off - maybe at sunset. rm
  6. I understand that (for merchandise) barcodes are being phased out and the replacement is a chip that emits an identification signal. Walmart has already required suppliers to implement - not sure when. With a good receiver I have heard that they will have the range of a couple hundred yards. question: these things will be cheap and small - could a more powerful unit be fitted in the riser of a main and used as a way to find a cutaway main - could they be fitted somewhere in the container to find an injured student who landed under reserve? Maybe it has been considered before but was too expensive at that time?
  7. nice... that's only 14 lbs more than my racer is...... with chutes probly almost double the size... whatya got in it????? it was "lowpull" that had the power racer at 10.5 pounds complete - i like the sound of that! rm
  8. what are the results with the red cable rm
  9. you get screwed selling any gear (that you bought new) - but especially the "non-2k3" racers. they are not popular in many places. I think when you buy new, you should be thinking I am keeping this for a long long time --- unless you have cash to burn. by the way, I will only ever jump a racer - but I would not buy another new one. rm
  10. as of last week Mirage was 6-8 weeks. rm
  11. here is where the future is (diesel)---drop it into a C185 - I'll bet it would be a money maker....rm The CENTURION 4.0 is a four valve, eight cylinder jet fuel engine in V configuration with common-rail direct injection. The engine is bi-turbocharged, liquid cooled and uses a wet oil sump as well as an integrated gearbox and propeller governor. Single lever control is achieved through use of a digital engine management system (FADEC). Gear ratio is 1.69:1. Technical Data Take off power (at 2300 rpm): 228 kW (310 hp) Torque: 946 Nm (698 ft.lb) Constant power: available max. power at respective altitude Torque at BEP: 888 Nm (566 ft.lb) Engine swept volume: 3,996 cm³ (243.85 cu.in) Bore: 86 mm (3.39 in) Stroke: 86 mm (3.39 in) Compression ratio: 18.5:1 Fuel: Jet A1 Prop: Muehlbauer 3-blade prop (hydraulic variable pitch) Voltage: 28 V Dimensions and Weight Engine (incl. all accessories for operation) - 283,5 kg (625 lbs)
  12. it can be a bad thing if your plane is down for repairs half the time due to the modification. Here is the info from the classifieds. Just wondering if it is more "robust" than turbocharging while improving cycle time and pays it self off quickly enough. rm Small drop zones wanting more performance from a stock standard C-182 - Then consider a Supercharger for your C-182. See web site: http://www.forcedaeromotive.com/ The supercharger on our C-182K is giving 28MP till 7000 feet plus and have observed 22inches of MP at 14500 feet. Stop watch times in Mackay have between 25 - 28 minutes from wheels off to 14000 feet at MTOW + still climbing. So we have got greater power at height , shorter sortie times and able to carry greater weights to height with a half life engine and standard 2 blade prop. Good independent reviews and debate on the pros and cons can be found in the forums of the Cessna Pilots Association web site. If you wanting more information please contact Rod Sage the STC holder via his web site or myself for details of our practical experience. Kevin Seppanen: Australia
  13. I noticed this in the classifieds under "aircraft". Does anyone have any experience with this modification. It might be good fit for a small DZ... rm
  14. I'll try to find that out from Nancy. I kinda thought you might ask about it! rm
  15. Jumpshack does not have an option for hard housings in their risers. They have done testing with the red cables and with a slightly modifed conventional channel and found they do not need the added complexity - at least from what I remember.... rm
  16. rusting hardware sounds like a quality problem (with a certain batch) when the manufacturers were switching from Cad to Nickel - I have never seen it in S Ontario and it gets humid here. Nancy at Jumpshack told me outright the only advantage of stainless is the looks - disadvantages are cost and weight (if you like lightweight rigs). I don't buy the resale thing - just like options on cars when you sell you don't get anything for them.
  17. in my opinion, it is not worth the price charged but if you have the cash to burn - go for it. I'd get nickel plated. rm
  18. Jumpshack recommends that the "2000" is for RW only - so if you are using one for freeflying you are going against their recommendation. Looked but could not find this on their website but I have seen it. My next rig will be a 2K3 power racer - less maintainence (I change the velcro every 200 jumps), less whining from packers, more secure risers/bridle, lightweight/strong, good service.
  19. there are 3 types of racers and as far as I know you can buy each one of them today. 1. elite (velcro sealed risers) 2. 2000 (trough style riser covers) 3. 2K3 (no velcro) By "old" I think everyone is referring to everything but the 2K3. An old 2k3 would be fine for FFing. Just wanted to clarify a bit...
  20. this from a earlier thread...you might want to confirm it is OK. "I think that you'll find that Dreft Handwash is the nearest equivalent in the UK"
  21. The non-stainless hardware is plated (cad or now nickel) --- it is not a problem. rm
  22. this from the RWS site.....rm Washing Your Vector Over the years we've seen some extremely dirty Vectors! We've found that many people are unsure how to get their container clean. For that reason, we have put together the following instructions on how to make your Vector smell and look good again. The best way to wash a rig is the "good old fashion way" with slightly warm water and Woolite. Use a big tub; let the rig stay in the soapy water 4 hrs. Occasionally swish the rig around in the tub to loosen dirt. Drain soapy water, fill tub with clean water, and swish rig around until the clear water becomes soapy and cloudy. Drain tub and repeat until all soap and dirt residue are gone, usually in 3 rinses. Let the rig naturally dry, without direct sunlight. We usually allow a small fan to blow air past it to speed up the drying process. We do not recommend using a washing machine. Extended agitation in a washing machine could have negative effects in the long run. This also requires you to wrap the heavy hardware to minimize damage to the machine. © 2000-2003 The Uninsured Relative Workshop, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
  23. It is all about what you are comfortable with. You would be exceeding the "Maximum" load for the 135 (or what ever square feet it is) posted on their website -- and that maximum is at 15C and sea level... rm
  24. you are 232 lbs (106 kg) and you are getting a 135 reserve - not good - just my opinion.... rm
