  1. Best advice: Bring a helmet and a gloved hand for your neck...that fire is fuckin hot!
  2. When I first started filming tandems, this guy came out calling himself 'money'. Came out with a bunch of people. Now everyone tends to have a little flappage of the face in freefall...but THIS guy flapped from the bottom of his neck through his ears. It was as if there was no muscle growth at all. The video was so horrid looking the guy didn't want it when it was through becuase of all the razzing from his friends while editing. It is aptly named 'ugly tandem' and is in my best of the best archives, I'll try to get it uploaded soon!
  3. As for passing out, I had an older gentleman pass out on me, I didn't realize he was limp till we were swoopin in, so i took one for the team and turn it sideways so we both took the fall. At first I though he was dead, kinda freaked me getting off the harness. Then he came too. Good relief he wasn't a heart attack victim.
  4. When you first get your TM rating, you yippy and yaw all over the place, and usually aren't thinking of the customer, and have little experience dealing with motion sickness. Namely becuase you never get sick, so how could someone else? (weather, altitude, summer, thermals play their part) As you get older and wiser, you don't want the yackity yack attack, so you find your nitch. I only got puked on the very first weekend...3 TIMES! After that I found out what works. 1. Before any turns start tell the student that "If you feel sick, quesy, wanna puke all over, do two things for me, one look at the horizon, and two, let me know whats going on here." 2. Carry an easy accessible plastic bag for the weak of stomache. 3. If there is no bag, make sure the student pukes between their legs "because the stomache acid could burn through the lift web" (for those that think i'm serious, I'M NOT, but if they puke on either side they will get it all over the TM!!!)
  5. Of course Definately No way. The worst students in my opinion are late 20's male, on their second tandem jump, that came with friends. They know everything there is to know, and usually fetal out the door!
  6. The tone of this reply suggests that I am included in the old and busted catagory. Just in case noone was following, Jeremy is the new hotness, he was refering to Mike and Jim as old and busted. So to reitierate, Jeremy...new hotness Mike and Jim...old and busted But after I give Jim and Mike the keys, they must become...old hotness. (if you didn't understand the above joke, then you need to sit on your ass and watch more movies)
  7. I find this very hard to believe, even de old VHS super shoulder models had a little red light to show recording! Most models of camcorders give you an option to turn this light off. It might be in a menu. Easy solution if this isn't the case. Buy a new camcorder, they are so damn cheap now adays. I got a PC101 for $400 big ones a couple months ago off ebay. Trying to get your hands on a Digital8 or earlier digital model would be quite easy and cheaper. If you figure out the red LED, let me know, i have a cam eye one i'll sell (cheap) you that will work just fine. Good luck
  8. Thanks for the reply...so the question is... What next? By the number of posts and interest, you have taken a leadership position here. I think a clear (especially moneywise) weighted balence of pros and cons of different ideas should be presented, and voted on by membership. It's a pity that that information is so hard to come by. I hope it will be made available before the next election so that skydivers have a 'real' issue to vote people into office on.
  9. As a pro jumper i should be informed of all the facts...but, Chris Needles tone in the Capitol Commentary a few months back suggests that by pulling the two apart and throwing away the demo side will cheepin the insurance all together. Or by getting rid of all the liability insurance in one swoop. Unfortunately (here in the forums) it can be a challenge to disect all the facts from the riff raff on the topics (myself included!). It would be nice to see these facts and myths published on the USPA website.
  10. And i'm still listening to those trance CD's...thanks ed!!!
  11. You can use either with that set up with no problems
  12. $300 for the Opitc is retail, shop around, you can get it cheaper. MSG me for more info
  13. I own a Merlin FF Suit, Merlin Pants, Merlin RW suit, and Merlin Camera Suit, all awesome...email me for questions.
  14. This is an anonymous poll. What do you really think of all the Demo insurance hupla. Are PRO skydivers going to far in the rants? Should USPA give up the fight, and let the demo guys find their own insurance? I already know that some of these answers overlap each other.
  15. Mile-Hi Skydiving Center in Longmont CO has a fully bladed and measured distance and accuracy swoop course. Skydive the Rockies in Canon City CO has a measured distance strip.
  16. I have only heard bad things about shooting this format for skydiving, but I have no personal experience with them.
  17. The simple rule is to get involved with your skydiving relationship first, then your significant other. Do it backward and they will always hold it over you, especially when those weekends start disappearing rapidly! But, some are more flexible than others. My wife walked into our relationship when i had over 550 jumps, so she knew what she was getting herself into. Yours isn't so fortunate, this lifestyle may be thrust upon her without her consent...keep that in mind, hope it works!
  18. Am I hearing you right? $250.00 to renew the rating?!? LOL ... at least I'll have my pretty card to show that I once held it. I believe that if this is the case, many PRO raters will be pullin chocks, and there will be a very weak backbone in the industry supporting hikes in insurance. Support will mostlikely go to USPA renewal fees strictly going to personal liability and Demo dudes will have to be lookin elsewhere. If I'm hearing you right, watch for this hidden demon, it may come back and bite PRO raters in the balls down the road. There is security in numbers.
  19. It is a beautiful tree Dove, but after a couple weeks it turns into a potential TORCH. When you touch it all the needles break off and the heater gives a laugh of evil!!! Thanks for the comments
  20. Hence the great RSL debates and AAD debates that are started every so often...how wonderful!
  21. Mine too, 4700+ lights this year, budget for next year will cross the 7000 marker. It is insane how many cuts i have on my hands!!!
  22. No way, I had to do that stupid conversion from Ft/s to MPH when the Skytronic Pro came out...it's my time baby!!!! Pro-Track keeps that damn calculator at home. Quite honestly, the only time i look at it is when i report to my tandem student how fast we've gone. They like that cool stuff, without the calculation.
  23. LOL, seriously, I would get a thousand jumps or so and make sure you don't burn out on the sport before making any real life changing moves like that...unless your so financially secure that you can.
