  1. People have "big suit flocks" all the time. For a normal flock I'd grab my Havok, sure, but why wouldn't the handful of big suits get together for a flight every now and then? That said, the points about fins being no less hazardous than what's already out there are well-taken. Though the counter-point would be that plastic sharpened to an edge is more of a hazard than a plastic box with rounded edges. Just spit-balling here. No conclusions drawn just yet. Apex BASE #1816
  2. Any thoughts on the fins being hazardous for flocking? I mean...I understand that theoretically nobody should be flying into someone. But it's happened before and will happen again. Seems like they'd be able to chop thorough a wing, or maybe take a chunk of someone's cheek if they aren't wearing a full face. Jarno...any thoughts or commentary here? I'm sure this came up during development. Apex BASE #1816
  3. Just saw this with Robert tagged in it. Looks like they added some horsepower! Apex BASE #1816
  4. Seconded. Duane is solid. Apex BASE #1816
  5. I've got it right now. I'll give it to you when I'm done. Apex BASE #1816
  6. Well that escalated quickly. Apex BASE #1816
  7. Matt is clarifying some of the points he made here: http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2972410;page=unread#unread Apex BASE #1816
  8. More scientific data: What you are saying will be true in this scenario, where the exit is from a heli and there is plenty of altitude. The limiting factor is the fixed exit point, which definitely has the ability to force you into flatter flying, if separation is what you're after. Apex BASE #1816
  9. From the same exit point, in the same direction, the higher path will inherently be flatter, at least for a period of time. Look at the attached very-scientific paint file. The steep path (1) is in contrast to the flatter path (2). The only way to get the same glide angle at a higher altitude is to fly flatter for a period of time before going steep again (3). My point is that sometimes what you are saying is right. That is, that you can be higher and still fly steeper from some exits. But not always. Apex BASE #1816
  10. Which is more dangerous? All of your questions answered in one easy guide (where a greater symbol indicates a greater level of danger): 1. Close > Far 2. Flat > Steep Therefore: 3. Close + Flat = DANGER! 4. Close + Steep = "More Safe" 5. Far + Steep = "Most Safe" 6. Far + Flat = ? ;depending on how far, how flat, weather conditions, time of day, experience level, suit type, and whether you prefer dogs or cats. Apex BASE #1816
  11. The rule of thumb is always get the biggest possible suit. That said, you should consider the Aura. Unless you're jumping a Petra 78. Then you should go a little more conservative with the Colugo. Apex BASE #1816
  12. It's void if you get blood on it. Apex BASE #1816
  13. That makes sense to me. Maybe an unintended benefit. Apex BASE #1816
  14. Right...so are you trying to explain to us why your own line of questioning doesn't make sense? Because I think you've just convinced me. Here you explain that picking a company based on past incidents, even "even if they were completely out of the instructor/companies control" is "extra/fake peace of mind just like we all use when picking a "safe" cars or a "safe" hotel to stay at." Really? Maybe you should stick to internet skydiving. It has the least amount of incidents by far. Edited to add: Everyone keeps asking where you're from and you have, so far, declined to answer. Just curious why that is. Apex BASE #1816
  15. No "companies" have incidents. Only individuals have incidents. Apex BASE #1816
  16. I never go skydiving. I just go on skydiving forums and clog them up with a million questions. Apex BASE #1816
  17. http://www.thetileapp.com/ Awhile back there was a thread about ways to track canopies (and maybe even the smaller parts like reserve PCs and bags) after a cutaway. Lost gear sucks, and a solution would be nice. Anyone know much about this? Seems promising, though I don't have the rigging knowledge (or product knowledge about the app) to know for sure. Edit: 50-150 feet...that could be the Achilles heel here. If I'm within 50 feet of my gear, I can see it. If nothing else, maybe this just shows that the technology will be there someday soon. Edit 2: "The range from your phone is 50 - 150ft depending on the environment. However, if any other Tile user's phone is within 50 - 150ft of your Tile, you will receive an update with the location of your Tile. When this happens, you will see a pin on the map view for your Tile. This essentially makes the range limitless once there are enough Tile users in your area" Might still work if you've got friends! 18. That's why I never use the thumb loop. Flies just as well, pulls WAY cleaner. Apex BASE #1816
  19. I think this idea is catching a lot of sh*t when we should be praising him. It's ideas like this that advance the sport. There was a time when everyone was "used to" PCs that were stowed in the legstrap. What you're used to isn't relevant. If the new concept is better, then what you're used to will change over time. First through skydives, and then in BASE. The future of wingsuiting is an integrated canopy/harness built into the WS. It's already been experimented with, but eventually we'll all be there. When that happens, this could very well be the new means of PC deployment. Until then, nothing is likely to change as we're all using the same old systems. Whether you like the idea or not, you should like that these ideas are being put out there. Apex BASE #1816
  20. I'd like to SEE the Venom Power. I'd also be curious to know what "class" it competes in. Is it going to be intended to do battle with the Auras and Jedeis, or is that space reserved for the Viper? Apex BASE #1816
  21. I think the separate cells lining the perimeter of the suit count as original. Apex BASE #1816
  22. This seems aimed at DZ owners/operators, but I'd love it if you made a stop in Southern California (and how could you not?). Perris, Elsinore, Oceanside, San Diego. Come on out our way. I've been a PF guy all my life but I'd like to try some Tonysuits. Never flown one. Apex BASE #1816
  23. I like that they kept it a true 2-piece tracking suit. I think Tony's ideas are cool...but the one-piece design with separate inflatable cells makes it more of a hybrid between a WS and TS in my mind. Maybe it's all semantics and more options are always better. But I like the traditional 2-piece style. Apex BASE #1816
  24. Disco. Apex BASE #1816
