  1. Anyone who claims they'd get out of the door knowing it's their last jump (i.e. they'll die) is totally full of sh*t. My guess is you wouldn't even take your seatbelt off if you didn't have a rig on. Apex BASE #1816
  2. And there's also a large percentage of fatals that involved perfectly good reserves deployed too low... How many low cutaway fatalities have we had in the past 12 months? Seems like this has been more of a killer than swooping recently. Apex BASE #1816
  3. Get a larger, stickier piece of gum and stick it to the old gum. The new gum will stick to the old gum and you'll be able to pull them off together. Boom! Container will look brand new. Apex BASE #1816
  4. No. Remember how people were concerned that all the WS regulation nonsense would infect other disciplines? I do. Apex BASE #1816
  5. So every time the USPA creates any new rules it's always done with a wink and a nod to say, "This is all for show, do whatever you want."? The real issue is H/Cs are too tight and it's messing with the reserve deployment sequence. The AADs are fine, the reserves are fine. How about you go after the problem (the H/C extraction forces) rather than the symptom. This is just another reason for people to pass on an AAD and may cost more lives than it saves. There are always unintended consequences. Apex BASE #1816
  6. You'll also learn to master the skills acquired in 1st grade by spending 2 years there instead of 1. That doesn't make it the best path for every single person. Just because it can be done doesn't mean you should force everyone to do it. Education is the path to elightenment here. Stop TELLING people what to do and start TEACHING people what to do. Then it's up to them to apply that knowledge. You're not their keeper. Apex BASE #1816
  7. Exiting without flipping is harder than exiting and doing flips. Work on that. Apex BASE #1816
  8. It doesn't hurt you, but it hurts people who want to downsize. The problem with regulation is that it nessecarily has to account for the lowest common denominator. So those who progress more slowly end up holding back those who progress more quickly via these rules. There are also always unintended consequences, as pointed out above. I think mandatory education is a more effective and fair way of solving the problem than making people's canopy choices for them. More canopy education in AFF, and at each licensing level. We're adults. Adults have the right to make choices, wise or otherwise (See what I did there? ) Apex BASE #1816
  9. Translation: "I want to jump with my girlfriend on her tandem. How much weight should I wear?" Let me know what you find out. I'm also interested in getting laid. Apex BASE #1816

    PF Havok

Tons of Havoks at Skydive San Diego. I think it's the best utility, do-anything, go-anywhere DZ wingsuit. Big enough to fly with some of the bigger suits, you can drop it down to flock with Phantoms, and it loves acro. I've found it to be a little slower horizontally than some of the other suits but with some practice you'll learn to get more out of it. A couple folks with Ghosts play with the Havoks all the time. Similar range but a little less acro-friendly. Just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt. ;) Apex BASE #1816
  11. What he said. All these guys saying OMG NOOOO.....really? Its tiring but its not climbing mountains with 3 donkeys on your back. Ive done 3 hours across 4 days, on 2 different occasions. My only tip, if its all freefly, mix up the sitfly work with transitions and backfly etc to give the shoulders breaks on occasion. gl! This. I was doing 6 blocks of 10 mins each day. The 10 mins was broken up into 1:40 turns. I'd do one on my head, the next in a sit, the next on my back, the next on transitions, etc. Just don't do sit, sit, sit, sit...and you'll be fine. 12. I did 3 hours in 3 days at iFly Utah. It was my first big chunk of tunnel time. If you're in shape it's very doable, but you'll be sore for sure. Stretch, drink water, and harden the f*ck up! Apex BASE #1816
  13. Oh don't worry about my gear, ahem *voodoo curve*, that's on order bro. You're better off worrying about yourself first and your student status. If you would expend 1/4 of the energy you have on getting your license instead of worrying about my gear or my mom's bussom then you might be finished with aff Dude asked what we think so I post what I think....OP didn't say "what do you guys think...only positive input please". So i told OP what I think..it's plain, it's white, it's boring, it has no quick release..i mean OP asked for thoughts. *Ahem*, you don't have gear and you're telling people their shit sucks. Lol. Having a voodoo curv "on order" coming from you, doesn't hold much value. Let's see your "badass" "exciting" helmet! I think his looks fine. It's a hell of a lot better than not having one at all. I finished AFF. Unless you know of a school that has a 23 jump AFF course? Mine was only 7 w/ 7 coached jumps, Einstein. If it was 1/4 as easy and inexpensive as typing a paragraph to call out a troll on his bull$#!t, I think skydivers would be in grave danger. Your feeble-minded comebacks actually made me laugh. I'm ashamed... Come on guys! FEED THE TROLL! It's starving for attention!! Without instigating sarcastic disputes against the incontrovertible, he'd be bored and we wouldn't want that.... Just an FYI Apollo, getting through AFF doesn't mean you're no longer a Student. Technically you're a student until you get your A license. And there are many people on this thread (myself included) that would argue you'll be a student of the sport for much longer than that. Slow your role around here buddy. One day you'll look back at these posts and feel pretty silly. Apex BASE #1816
  14. Looks like a short bus helmet to me. Apex BASE #1816
  15. You have to give up a lot to be at the DZ every weekend. Some people just aren't willing to give up most/all of their free time to only one activity. I was, and now I'm at the DZ every weekend. I gave up a lot of partying, clubs, Vegas trips, etc. because I think my time/money/energy is better spent on skydiving. Not everyone agrees, so not everyone stays. Apex BASE #1816
  16. Yes sir. You can just call me Joe though. ;) Apex BASE #1816
  17. Great feedback, thanks! Apex BASE #1816
  18. Have you flown one yet? I'm curious what a PF guy would think about it. I tend to think that people who are used to Tony Suits would find that it (the Colugo) flies more responsively and less washy. But if you're already used to crisp flight from the PF line how's the transition to Squirrel? Thanks for you input. Much appreciated! Apex BASE #1816
  19. I have kept up with a wide range of groups in my P2...forward speed was never an issue (though horizontal seperation was an issue with bigger suits). After getting the Havok I've had more trouble horizontally. I went out with the guy who I sold my P2 to and I had a hard time keeping up with his forward speed. Is there a difference in technique to max out? I've always gone with straight legs, pointed toes, and swept arms to fly fast. Same position in both suits and I felt like I was getting more out of the P2. Intuition tells me that maybe I'm not steep enough...the larger surface area might be slowing me down if my AOA isn't steep enough. Apex BASE #1816
  20. I do not currently BASE jump, I only skydive. I'll be at the Potato bridge later in the year to begin my baby steps into the BASE environment. I think my Havok is probably the best all-around dropzone wingsuit. It's great for flocking, acro, backflying, etc. I'd never replace it as my utility DZ suit. I am interested in something a little bigger with some more forward speed though. Horizontally the Havok isn't as fast as my P2 was (at least that's my impression, no flysight data or anything). At some point I do expect to move my next suit to the BASE environment which is why these two are on my radar. Apex BASE #1816
  21. At first I thought Venom vs. Colugo may be a better matchup...but it seems like the Vampire and Colugo are both primarily aimed at the same market (e.g. BASE, and more specifically proximity). The Venom isn't really targeted at the proximity crowd the same way that the V5 and Colugo are. It seems to me like the V5 and Colugo are two different ways of skinning the same cat. That's what sparked the curiosity in my mind. For a BASE jumper it seems reasonable to compare the two suits (and consider them to be in the same "class"). Is the comparison not as reasonable for sky jumping? Not trying to be sarcastic. That's a real question. Apex BASE #1816
