Resizing BASE Pouch for skydiving PC's

Recommended Posts

I'm folding the pilot chute the same way I was taught to fold a Vector Tandem Drouge in 1992. I know that folding the PC with the bridal inside is frowned upon these days, but I've done so for well over 4000 dives with no incident and am reluctant to change to the unknown at this point.

IMO the BASE PC Pouch was designed with longevity high on the design spec. I would far prefer a spandex pouch, as I have had the PC slip out on 2 occasions when running (yes, RUNNING) to get onto a load.

I have experienced no negative traits to use of the BASE PC Pouch on any dives thus far but must point out that my experience is limited and I only have 100 dives with this configuration.

While I favour "short and fat" I'm not sure if this holds any advantage in a non elasticated pouch.

Agreed. You need to think "long and thin gets you in" with the BASE pouch otherwise you get what's called an impossi-pull. The BASE crowd calls this thin configuration a "dildo".

So much easier at pull time...fast.

That's why I use it. None of the negatives just allows me to fly a bit harder for longer without having to build in "looking time" on every dive - just in case.

There is one way to fold it here though I should update it because I actually use a different way, at step 8 i fold the bottom up to the top (towards the hackey) then fold the bridle.

So do you have the bridle inside the package when you fold it?

We saw a noticeable hesitation here (non-wingsuit) over the weekend that was likely caused by folding the PC that way with the bridle already S folded inside it.

See Dead Jaap's Thread for more details. I'm hoping he'll get some pictures up and start a discussion about the PC pack when he gets home.

I'm curious if we've come to opposite conclusions about the same PC pack job, but it's hard to tell without more photos (or even video) of the PC packing. Can you elaborate on your method?

Thanks!
