Tunnel to open in Milton Keynes UK

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got any idea how much the new UK tunnel is going to cost when its open? I am pretty broke so this would be an excelent way of getting a step ahead with regards to freefall as I am now working up to 10 second delays and I am running out of cash lol

£50 for 2 mins of flight time?! I know it's a minimum, but Bodyflight are doing a £60 for 10 min flight offer i believe (and no i don't work for them, i just heard about it when they turned up at the dz)

Different companies, different expenses, different tunnels, different fans, different air flow, different staff training (possibly), you get the idea.

There are so many factors that can go into determining price. Bedford upgraded, they did not build from scratch. That is also one of the reason they will most likely be a successful, operational 16 ft. tunnel. Operating costs for that monster are going to be a biotch, for any 16 ft. tunnel for that matter. Operating costs for such a venture would be outrageous with start up costs and maintaince for a new tunnel. Thus making a 16 ft. SV or any other tunnel for that matter, is a very expensive and maybe not so great of an investment.

Again, I know nothing. Take this for what it is worth, my opinion and take on the business side of things.

I remember you and John saying that about the costs of a 16fter. It really stood out as an obvious downfall to the increase in size but I never imagined it would be so much that it would not make it a wise venture at all. It totally makes sense when you think about it though.

I wish anyone all the best if they take on that venture. I'll surely be there to fly it :)

the operating costs.. well, I just can't get my head around them!

Well, all I will say on the matter is that the operating costs sure do increase!

We are quite lucky with our location - and power supply... I doubt many places could easily be fed with the size and cost of supply needed. Our chiller system alone consumes as much power as a standard tunnel would (give or take a bit)

I have said before - I doubt we would have built this big if we had to start from scratch... but as Paige observed no build costs makes it possible.

:)
Ohh - and our trial offer is damn good value :P:D

sounds like it.. I didn't bother to look up the Euro conversion.. I have a day trader client he said the EURO is going down and the minister of finances or whatever is gonna be taxing non residents or something like that.. so anyway.. I always wonder how that conversion thing works.. but sounds like it's changing..

anyway.. yes trial offers are great! I just got the owner at AAC to give away 30 minutes of air time for a fundraiser nearby and I'm working with him on an invitation only free freefly event.. a couple of weekends where it's totally free by invitation only. The first X number of people to respond and confirm get their time totally free.. two full 8 hour days of it!

think that might gain a little interest?? and have you considered doing anything like that?

For fear of invoking a swarm of ... me me me's..... yes we have - and its likely to be the format of our invitation launch party. We aim to open with a bit of a celebration and a day at least of flying / socialising and general get the place off to the right start fun.

Not sure exactly how many invites will go out yet (havent got the safety numbers from the fire officer yet!) but should be good I hope ;)

Keep me posted, I'm sure the rats down here would love to get in on that event even if they have to pay for their time. If it ever gets past just an invite only, I know there would be much interest from some SVO employess. Phil is sooooooooooo excited to get out there and fly it. I could see him twitching as he was talking about it :D

I'll keep you posted on my event to let you know what worked and what didn't (not that you haven't done this a ton already I'd guess). I'm sure they are going to be totally different events but sharing info that worked and didn't, never hurts. There might be some surprise that came up for me that also might for you. For big events regardless of subject, the more you know the more you can prepare for/brace for the worst, imo.

Right on!!! and yes, I'm sure there will be a swarm.. I'm thinking for us.. we'd give each person about 30 minutes.. and the list would be generated by recommendation and previous world record attempts, etc..

The owner is considering an invitation competition with judges and a few thousand dollar prize.. but I'm pushing for the free freefly event instead... and it should cost about the same but allow more folks to enjoy it.. more like everyone's a winner!

Good to see you wanna share the love!

At £50 for 2 min you have to be kidding!!! I will rather carry on going to aerokart or Perris in the USA where you have insturctors that have in excess of 10k jumps or alternatively locally bodyflight. Aerokart costs €50 for 2.30sec. How stupid can you be to price yourself right out of the market before you even open?

Skyventure Perris is £67 for 10 min :)Aerokart £140 for 10 min [:/]
Skyventure UK £500 for 10 min >:(
Body flight £60 for 10 min :)
Guess where I will be going.

I'm sure someone there (SVUK) will read this and respond to you.. we certainly don't charge that much for airtime & coaching. I had no idea you could get time at SkyVenture Perris so cheaply.. according to my exchange program that's just under $9 per minute!

ehhh.. Gavin? Did you read the website carefully? It says:

Quote

Price is £50
It will give you a full one hour experience and an absolute minimum of two flights in that hour

Last time I checked, most of the flights are 2 minutes each at other SV tunnels, right?

Rimster, it clearly states on the site:
Each flight is one minute in length.

And to make it easier for you here is the link:
http://www.skyventure.co.uk/skyventure.html?/gift_certificate.html
I quote directly from the site:
It will give you a full one hour experience and an absolute minimum of two flights in that hour

That equates to 2 flights in one hour one minute each. Its not hard to do the maths here.

OH - I almost forgot to add, you get a free hat or T-shirt.

The standard block time in a tunnel is 2min 30sec

WHEW! Good to know, I was hoping our air time wasn't more than SVP!
Anyway.. must be an exchange rate thing why it came out like that for me.

Thanks for clarifying, and yes.. that's a pricey flight.. I guess they are hoping their branding will work for them in that respect, but as you have pointed out.. maybe not.

The competition is heating up out there..:o:ph34r:

Just for the sake of it, I got this in an email from Simon Ward when I asked about this point:

Quote

Flights are of 1 minute duration each and everything that goes with
welcoming newcomers to the sport. We will be giving at least 4 mins on the
Early Bird voucher.

One voucher per person.

On the bodyflight cost for 10 minutes, that's an opening special offer for BPA members. After that 10minutes the price is somewhat more. Also it was mentioned that the vouchers were only going to be sold for a few weeks more.

What you say is purely second hand hearsay and speculation, Mr Simon Ward should adjust his site in line with what you say if this is true.

Bodyflight has it in black & white, until then Skyventure UK is priced at what the site reflects.

I think Skyventure UK are watching the market from behind and observing the steps of innovators and leaders such as Bodyflight.

Go Bodyflight !! B|

Take the market !! :)

I dont know why I bother to do this but here is the lookup of hearsay and spefically for you incase you cannot find the meanings its in bold:

hearsay
n. 1) second-hand evidence in which the witness is not telling what he/she knows personally, but what others have said to him/her. 2) a common objection made by the opposing lawyer to testimony when it appears the witness has violated the hearsay rule. 3) scuttlebutt or gossip.

Noun: speculation `spekyu'leyshun
A message expressing an opinion based on incomplete evidence
- guess, conjecture, supposition, surmise, surmisal, hypothesis

Anybody can type anything and stick it on this forum.
As I said in my last email and I say it again: This information needs to come from www.skyventure.co.uk for it to be real. Until then it is HEARSAY

I also got a mail from him after I told him I thought the website was a little misleading. Seems I wasn't the only one who thought this.

I think I was about to suggest that this thread got transfered to the mystery zone of Speakers Corner :P

Simon Ward is one of the big guys with SVUK so I figured that he'd be giving out accurate information. Also since this email was reference a marketing question and nothing within was at all personal in nature, I figured he would not mind me mentioning on here in order to clarify speculation refering to his bussiness.

This is the reason why I did not put the price for 10 minutes in the bedford tunnel in, is because even though I found out when speaking to Paul Mayer (DZ.com: paulipod) the weekend before last I cannot definitivly remember the price mention therefore instead of putting down what I THOUGHT it was I left that out for someone who did know to put in i.e. paul when he's on here next.

edited to add: why make up something in Simon Wards name when it can very easily be traced back to me by him when someone mentions it to him? It's not as though UK skydiving is particularily large and I wouldn't like to be annoying people like Simon Ward to much.
