best books on skydiving

Recommended Posts

Order the 2009-2010 Skydiver's Information Manual. You can do this at www.uspa.org It's a little over $30, but it is the definitive authority in the US about skydiving. I've read Dan Poynter's Skydiving Handbook, but it's really dated and I've had to sort out a LOT of misleading information that I got from it by talking to my instructors. Until someone writes and up to date version of Dan Poynter's book, I'm putting all my money on what I read in the SIM and what my instructors tell me.
"For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

The SIM is a great resource!!!

However, there is no need to read all of it nor to pay for a hard copy.

You can download a digital copy for free at:
http://www.uspa.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=6cNJEL6yyl8%3d

Focus your reading on Section 4- Integrated Student Program. Here is the free online version of Section 4:

it doesn't have alot of practical infomation in it, but batmen, birdmen and skyflyers by michael someone or other is excellent. It's mainly about the progression of wingsuits and some of the characters behind them, but is a really good read and offers some fantastic insights into the early jumping pioneers. I'd really recommend it.

The authors name is Michael Abrahms and his book can be found HERE. Of course, I am partial to This one myself.;)

The Integrated Student Program in the SIM goes through each level of AFF and the jumps after that. It isn't the exact syllabus used (each DZ varies) but its close.
