here is the link to the website which leads to the book written by the 2 Dutch survivors of the Perris crash.

I am going to buy it, and get it signed by Jos this winter.

Apparently for european customers, it is better to order it from www.authorhouse.co.uk , as the shipping costs are apparently lower.

Is this a book of fiction or something else, cause stuff like :

Quote

Back in California Jens meets a presumed lost friend. This event explains to him why things have happened, and why certain people have played a part in his life. He is shocked by what he hears about mysterious tribes and clans who guide and influence us earthly inhabitants. It all unfolds in a thrilling vision on the origin of mankind, the society and our greatest threat.

kinda makes me wonder.

Quote from "About the book":

"Two friends, Jens and Gary, both Dutch, travel in 1992 to California for a sports training camp and are involved in a devastating plane crash. They barely survive; out of the twenty-two people on board sixteen are killed, including two of their Dutch team mates. A young Dutch woman, who unknowingly belongs to a subculture guided by underground powers, is indirectly involved in the accident. Back home she tries to find the Dutch survivors. Jens and Gary experience the most difficult period of their life – having to deal with the grief of losing their friends and recovering from severe injuries. In the period after the accident, their lives start changing. They are caught up in events they never thought possible. Jens and Gary meet occasionally. In intense discussions they discover that not all is what it seems. Twelve years after the accident, several striking signs draw Jens’s attention. “Too many to be just coincidental,” he decides. “Is someone trying to tell me something? Does Gary have a point after all?” he wonders. In 2012, a remembrance day is organized at the crash site. Back in California Jens meets a presumed lost friend. From this unreels secrets, mysteries, and an explanation of them which points to mankind’s true genesis. From it Jens learns how human society was built and what the greatest threat to human survival is."

Underground powers, and the genesis of man, oh my!

I agree that it sounds awful. But as to your last point, there's nothing new (or ethically reproachable) about authors writing "historical fiction" based, even if loosely, on an actual event. Those who might be offended by it have the simple option of not reading it.

I was jumping Perris at the time and knew nearly everyone on that load. My first reaction to this is kinda mixed, but ultimately I agree with Andy - everyone has the right to write what they want, and everyone else has the right to read or not read it. And if these guys lived through that crash then I guess they've earned the right to interpret it however they wish, and again, the rest of us have the right to agree or disagree as we see fit.

Related story:

Shortly after the time of the crash, there was to be a Grateful Dead concert in Las Vegas, and a bunch of us had arranged to go. Kiwi had put all the tickets on his credit card. In the aftermath of the crash, someone called his parents and said 'by the way we owe you for those concert tickets'. His folks graciously said not to worry about it, they'd cover it. So we all 'went to the Dead on a dead man's ticket'. On the day of the show, which was in an open air stadium, there was a thunderstorm. Well, you know how things can 'seem' at a Dead show, but you would have sworn that the sound guy had control of the thunder and lightning. Also, there are air tours that fly out of Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, and they used Otters. So there we were watching the show, the thunder and lightning perfectly timed to the music, and Otters occasionally flying by in the distance. And the people around us wondered why we kept crying...
