GRIZZLY STEPPE – Russian Malicious Cyber Activity

Recommended Posts

Quote

Summary
This Joint Analysis Report (JAR) is the result of analytic efforts between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This document provides technical details regarding the tools and infrastructure used by the Russian civilian and military intelligence Services (RIS) to compromise and exploit networks and endpoints associated with the U.S. election, as well as a range of U.S. Government, political, and private sector entities. The U.S. Government is referring to this malicious cyber activity by RIS as GRIZZLY STEPPE.

Previous JARs have not attributed malicious cyber activity to specific countries or threat actors. However, public attribution of these activities to RIS is supported by technical indicators from the U.S. Intelligence Community, DHS, FBI, the private sector, and other entities. This determination expands upon the Joint Statement released October 7, 2016, from the Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence on Election Security.

Goes into some interesting detail about how to look for signs of a breach in your own systems if you have the technical knowledge and wherewithal to do so.

Did the DHS mention their own attempts at Malicious Cyber Activity?

http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/dec/9/georgia-election-officials-accuses-dhs-hacking-sta/

Komrade, you are up working so late at night! Your dedication is commendable. The story was about Russian cyber aggression, for which your leaders are now being punished.

Why does Mother Russia, a wasted third rate, vodka fueled, oil dependency with a kleptomatic government think it should still be seriously considered as a power?

I'm sure everything will be fine once Emperor Putin's Viceroy is installed in the White House.

Argumentum ad hominem directed towards you, is a sure fire sign that you are on the path to integrity.

Or did the state of Georgia not catch the DHS trying to hack their election process at least four times, after insisting they oversee the process but wereI deneed the privilege?

Ad hominem attack? At you? Hmmm. What are you saying? Are you admitting you're being a complete hypocrite? Nobody asked you to do that.

Maybe you should look up.the term and understand it's meaning, and try to stick to the subject.

I'm sorry? If that's what you want, then why did YOU move off it and stop discussing "Grizzly Steppe"? Why did YOU shift the conversation?

Sorry pal, you don't get to have it both ways.

Oh, and fuck Dubai.

Very common tactic. Try to change the subject. The only way to deal with it is to call it out and not engage.

Once again, the subject is Russian theft of communications and it's use to attack the integrity of the far more powerful US political system. A crime for which Putin will pay a price.

Some US agencies may do the similar things. But Russia lacks the power to do much about it. It has lost it's empire because it does not have the strength to hold it. It is a backward society that had a brief period of importance following the defeat of the German Nazis. But it frittered the opportunity away because it had a very poor system of government. Now it is frittering away it's new chance with an arguably worse system of government.

Russia, very brave strong people with no chance because of incompetent self serving leaders.

While the sources of the 'leaked' information suggest that this is nothing more than WMD's 2.0.

The DHS itself is implicated heavily in hacking the elections with actual evidence provided. While the Russians being responsible is nothing more than hearsay. Disclaimer included.

They would claim that. wouldn't they? The basic difference is that someone did do the crime, we know that. And they left fingerprints, because that is the nature of this crime. Too clever by half.

Binney tells Washington’s Blog:

I expected to see the IP’s or other signatures of APT’s 28/29 [the entities which the U.S. claims hacked the Democratic emails] and where they were located and how/when the data got transferred to them from DNC/HRC [i.e. Hillary Rodham Clinton]/etc. They seem to have been following APT 28/29 since at least 2015, so, where are they?

Further, once we see the data being transferred to them, when and how did they transfer that data to Wikileaks? This would be evidence of trying to influence our election by getting the truth of our corrupt system out.

And, as Edward Snowden said, once they have the IP’s and/or other signatures of 28/29 and DNC/HRC/etc., NSA would use Xkeyscore to help trace data passing across the network and show where it went. [Background.]

In addition, since Wikileaks is (and has been) a cast iron target for NSA/GCHQ/etc for a number of years there
should be no excuse for them missing data going to any one associated with Wikileaks.

***

Too many words means they don’t have clear evidences of how the data got to Wikileaks.

Binney designed the NSA’s electronic surveillance system, so he would know.

Sure, you want us all to believe this one quote from a blog you found, that claims one guy thinks the evidence has weaknesses. And ignore the findings of the intelligence community as a whole.
You are not convincing anyone because you are the one with weak evidence.

This is a second hand quote with poor attribution. I'm rather disappointed that a man with your resources cannot do better than this.

One guy that decrypted the Soviets and was an expert on Russian hacking at the NSA as well as being a director and designing apparatus they use today...

And for some reason all his compatriots disagree with him. And you only have a blog claiming the man said this. Hardly proof of anything at all.

Everyone acts like this is something new, they do it, we do it, others do it.
The Chinese hacked into the military SIPR net using thumb drives manufactured in...............China.
They saw a weakness and exploited it, we do the same thing.
The Russians are doing the same, so are we.

Cyber war is the new front, and it ain't going away anytime soon.

This was brought to the forefront by the democratic party, to distract from the ass-whipping they took nationwide.
The funny thing is, the information passed in the "hacks" was all true, the dems don't deny that.
This baggage was more serious than Trumps missteps, and the country said so.

I find it hard to believe that the release of those emails had much effect on the outcome of the election at all. It's the fact that Russia tried this tactic that is the issue. There is no shortage of angry Rs over it.

Do you honestly believe that if the "dirty laundry" from both sides had come out, that the effect would have been the same?

Except the effect of the leak wasn't limited to information that actually was in the leak. It was a 2 pronged attack. Leak a bunch of stuff then use lots of fake news sites to start bullshit stories about stuff that wasn't actually in the leak, secure in the knowledge that loads of people will believe it anyway because they can't be bothered to go and search through the source info.

There were certainly several people on here parroting false claims about what was actually in the leaked info that they couldn't suport when challenged.

:D

In denial much... Lol

This whole fake news epidemic is essentially full retard damage control.

The sites considered 'fake news' by the lying establishment media, have always been doing the same thing for years.

The difference is that these sites are getting much more popular because more and more people are coming to realise that the establishment media are complete bullshit artists.

The figures show it all.

Some websites considered mainstream are actually more fringe now statistically, than some of these so called alt right sites like Drudge report or infowars.

There is a very good reason for that.

Do I look at these sites? Before the predictable onslaught.... I look at everything I come across, skeptically.
