This girl will undoubtedly spend the rest of her life looking over her shoulder. I hope she finds her fair share of peace and happiness.

is she in fact the runner up? I didn't believe they named 2nd place.

But yes, I'd rather see the award going to people for actions they've actually done rather than to organizations, or to people who might do something (yes, 2009). She was a better choice, and there were other individuals that would have brought shine back to this away, which has been on a bad stretch of late.

No they don't name Runner's up, but she was in the runnings for the Peace Prize. The winner was the U.N. Organization "Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons" who is now overseeing the destruction of Chemical weapons is Syria.

The reason they won, from what I understand is that the Norwegian Committee that oversees the peace prize wants to give a boost to their cause.

If you ask me, Malala is more deserving. The more the world focuses on the Evil that is the Taliban and Muslim Extremism, the sooner we will know peace. That also includes Syria.

Not to mention the personal courage that she has shown in her cause. Her life will be endanger from here on out. It's a heavy burden she has taken on at the age of 16.

I agree. Who was that Marxist from, I think, America who won it awhile back? He was chosen for his socialist thinking not for anything he accomplished.

The peace prize.

When they gave it to Arafat "for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East", I first realized it was a joke.

Some research proved my opinion to be pretty valid.
Cordell Hull - President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Secretary of State. Basically forced the SS St Louis to turn around and sent half of its 950 passengers to death camps.

Henry Kissinger in 1972 for his "stopping the Vietnam war"

When they nominated Obama 12 days after he was sworn in for "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,".... It pretty much confirmed it was a joke.

People like this SHOULD win.... But politics wins in many cases.

This just in...

The Taliban are happy she didn't win

Quote

The Pakistani Taliban called the decision "very good news" and praised the committee for "not selecting this immature girl for this famous award," according to a statement by spokesman Shahidullah Shahid.

After receiving death threats from the Taliban for defying the Islamist militant group with her outspoken views on the right to education, the 16-year-old was shot a year ago while on a school bus near her village in Swat in northwestern Pakistan.

She recovered after she was flown to Britain for surgery, but the militants, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban, have vowed to try again.

"If we get another chance, we will definitely kill her and that will make us feel proud," Shahid said.

I'll bet that cost someone a pretty penny!

A favor of that caliber is really nice to have in reserve too.:)

You bet! To me, there are people who work for years trying to find cures for un-godly diseases and others who make great achievements and they get nada! Zip, zero, zilch. Obama is in office a couple of weeks and gets a Nobel prize. Smacks of what he's used to... Illinois politics.
