Why is it that wealth is so concentrated? Because with the seizure of wealth and redistribution of it, only the very wealthy can stay ahead. The welfare state has not created wealth in the poor. It has destroyed wealth in the middle class. (Add to it that we have moved from a wealth-creating manufacturing economy, and the issues also become clear).
Also want to add that the only way to take money from the wealthy is to compete with them. Take their business. Right now regulations and the tax code is so stacked that their is hardly any way for the little guy to open a business to compete against the mega-rich. You can't take his money unless you take his customers.
And you can only take money for redistribution (AKA: tax) when the guy moves his money (payroll, purchases, profits, interest, etc...) If he feels you are taking to much he will just stop moving as much to make up the difference (fire people, buy less, etc..)

There is a destruction of the middle class and a concentration of wealth because that's the way the government wants it.
... and if they wanted to fix it they would cut all the special interest crap from the tax codes and level the playing field to give the upstarts a chance.

Another seizure of wealth that has a daisy-chain effect down the road.

FYI, there was a thread started back in May with the same link (and I'm pretty sure I had seen it posted somewhere else mid-some-thread prior to that, but I couldn't find it just now.) There was a New York Magazine article posted in that thread and some interesting discussion about it there.
"Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today. It's coooold out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach?"

Oh, regarding that 100oz of silver you wanted to buy you might want to wait. Silver is still 3.X times where it should be.
I'm really not at all that cynical, but I do believe its a lot tougher for an individual to achieve the American dream.
13 years ago, I arrived in the Bay Arra in an old beat up station wagon with $300 in my pocket . Today... I'm living in that station wagon.
Do you really think silver should be $7 an ounce ? I was thinking $21 was not a too bad a price too buy at.

Why haven't you been able to get ahead? And in the Bay Area, of all places?
The answer is obvious. The people that live in SF are the wealthy and the homeless. Just how liberal governments make it. No middle class.

The welfare state is responsible for the order of magnitude increase in the ratio of CEO to employee pay over the last few decades? Do tell.

devildogAnd yet, even the poorest in the US live like kings when compared to 99.999..% of people throughout history. Somehow they managed to be happy.
I must have missed the history class where they said "...and everyone was happy." Someone should tell Dickens.

Nonsense. There are many reasons that there's an income disparity in this country. The fact that the federal government taxes the rich heavily and the poor almost not at all is NOT one of them.
jclalor 12
The very simple fact of the matter is that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, this had been happening at an accelerated pace for the last 30 years. This is not a partisan issue, with the world's population increasing, technology is making it possible to create more and more products with less and less manpower. Regardless of where you stand on unregulated capitalism, more people competing for fewer and fewer jobs drives down wages. When most people can no longer afford the products that they manufacture, we go into another Great Depression. The current disparity in wealth is very reminiscent of what was seen in the late 1920's.

Well, actually it is. Taxation and regulations are the 2 main factors there are no jobs in the U.S. The U.S. has the highest corporate tax in the world now. We surpassed Japan while under Obama.
And when I talk about regulations, I'm not talking solely about EPA. You can take all the talk about "Republicans want dirty air and dirty water" and cram it up your cram hole...
The NLRB and several other government entities have made this the most job un-friendly country in the world also...
If a company has the capitol to build a new manufacturing plant in either the U.S., or say Brazil, guess where the jobs go?
See Exhibit A: Ford Motor Company.

WELL, the corporations themselves wanted corporations to be considered to be persons so they'd have constitutional rights and protections, so corporations can hardly complain if they get taxed like persons.

They are hiring people willing to work, but you must be willing to "sacrifice" and spend time away from home. Other people do this to provide for their families and themselves . Why not give it a try?
jclalor 12
The funny thing is I will be moving to North Dakota in the near future, but not too work in the oil fields.
