ACA upheld

Then why not just have the gov't subsidize medical insurance for those who truely can't afford it? That's what they are going to do under this plan anyway. It what the gov't always does for people who can't manage to feed themselves, put a roof over their heads etc.

The states and localities cover it and eat the cost. Joe Snuffy falls off his bike. The ER treats him. Bills him a couple grand. He applies for Medicaid. The state then pays the hsopital a couple hundred bucks. Medicaid then puts a lien on Snuffy.

I also note kallend limits the claims to "federal deficits." Pass it on to the states.

And yes, John, EMTALA is going nowhere. If the ACA does what is promised, EMTALA wouldn't be needed. But one way or another, you're justifying and ratifying freeloading. EMTALA was enlightened. There are some bad free rides and some good free rides.

My wife is hotter than your wife.

You could ask Mr. Etch-a Sketch Mitt Romney. His Romneycare is almost indistinguishable from ACA.

That lie got blown out of the water upthread - should rightly be called "Patrickcare".

I'm sure it will continue to be called whatever Soros wants it to be called by his minions.

Might want to tell this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTByvLtYIYA&feature=player_embedded

In case anyone can't get the video, it's Romney defending the individual mandate part of Romneycare.

As opposed to Mr. "It's not a tax"? Mr. "Your taxes won't go up"? Mr. "Unions get waivers"?

>As opposed to Mr. "It's not a tax"?

Yes, the Romney campaign said that as well.

======================
CHUCK TODD (MSNBC): What you just said is that Governor Romney agrees that it's not a tax. But you guys call it a penalty.

ERIC FEHRNSTROM (TOP ROMNEY AIDE): The governor disagreed with the court. He agreed with the dissent that was written by Justice Scalia which very clearly stated that the mandate was not a tax.

TODD: So ... I think we're talking around each other. The governor does not believe the mandate is a tax, that's what you're saying?

FEHRNSTROM: The governor believes that what we put in place in Massachusetts was a penalty and he disagrees with the court's ruling that the mandate was a tax.

TODD: But he agrees with the president that it is not, that you shouldn't call the tax penalty a tax, you should call it a penalty or a fee or a fine?

FEHRNSTROM: That's correct.

Recent poll by Kaiser Health:

================
This poll fielded following the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the heart of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) finds a majority of Americans (56 percent) now say they would like to see the law’s detractors stop their efforts to block its implementation and move on to other national problems.

Isn't it great?

we need a name for the full list of ways the government takes money/equity from the people: tax, fine, fee, custom, print more money, subsidies (help one group, then anyone not in that group has to take up the slack), penalties, etc etc ad nauseum

seriously, ad nauseum

because in the end, whatever you call it, the citizen is left with less in his pocket and the government has more to waste - waste being the only thing it does efficiently

Verelli (Lead counsel for the gov't) said it was, too.

"U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli used the phrase “tax penalty” multiple times to describe the individual mandate’s backstop. He portrayed the fee as a penalty by design, but one that functions as a tax because it’s collected through the tax code."

What Romeny says at this point means nothing

It was argued as a tax and it passed constitutionally in the SC based on that argument

It is a tax
