What about the children?

Recommended Posts

How many children could have been fed, clothed, educated and housed with the billions of dollars wasted on crony capitalism green energy schemes like Solyndra, Beacon, Evergreen Solar, Spectra Watt, and Eastern Energy; all of which have declared bankruptcy and all of which are Obama supporters.

Only a small percentage of the amount that could be if the war with Iraq had never happened.

Next question.

Zero, if the Republicans had their way. The list you provided is not what they claim the federal government should be funding.

BTW, what is it, socialism, communism, or "crony capitalism" that Obama supports?

Ok no argument there, but that doesn't answer my question. Or perhaps you did not understand it. I thought I used small words.

Not just small words, but also small thoughts.

I tend to want to address the bigger issues first rather than dealing with minutia.

The common thread is that all of them have a top down approach. So take your pick.

Okay, so what was "Trickle-down Economics" then?
It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.

You should know better than to justify bad behavior by pointing out other bad behavior.

Wow! I underestimated you! Billions of dollars and the lives of millions of people, just minutia? What would you call "bigger issues"?

Anything that can't be used against the current administration?

Wrong context. Get your apples and oranges sorted and and try again.

I would, but you're the one trying to sort the Valencia Oranges from the Navel Oranges.

Are you suggesting that the laissez-faire economics which underpins "trickle down" is the same as the command economics of communism? If that is the case we need to stop talking oranges and start talking nuts.

You do know that doing nothing or worse, going into "balancing the budget" (i.e: austerity) leads to even bigger waste.

900 B$ /year more precisely.
Tax cuts doesn't have the multiplier effect everybody wants it to have.

a lot of people seem to cling a little bit too much to fairy tales imo.
"if we cut tax, everything would be OK!" :D

Cheers, :)

You must not have read my post, I didn't mention "balancing the budget" I only wondered how many children could have been helped with the billions of dollars wasted on crony capitalism with these green energy scams.

No, you asked a very small question that requires context, and are choosing to quibble with any answers that don't go right down the middle of the path that you think you outlined clearly.

Yes, it's a path. But it's a question that requires context, and you know it. Ask a question that requires discussion, rather than a "right answer."

I thought is was obvious, Sorry. What I was trying to illustrate was that all of this spending on "green" is not without a downside and there are real world consequences for poor decisions. Worse yet it is the administrations plan to "double down on green"

"spending not free that's the heart of the matter, too much is wasted as cronies get fatter"

Of course it's not without consequences. Nothing is without consequences -- including stuff that your representatives of choice do.

"investing in the future" only works if you know what the future is, and no one really does. We know some things -- the sun will continue to rise and set, politicians will continue to spend money that isn't theirs, and their constituents will hate it when they spend it on stuff they don't personally approve of.

With 300 million people, how many things do you think all of them will agree on?

Personally, if the government invests only in sure bets, I think they're wasting our money. OTOH, when things are tight (as they are now), they should be dialing it back a notch.

So -- do you think that all the filibusters against department heads and judicial appointments are without negative consequences? How about coal-fired power plants, or petroleum refinements, or automobiles?

I wonder how many children could be helped if Mitt Romney and others like him paid tax on their income at the same rate that I have to on my income.

I wonder how many could have been helped if Buffet had just paid up instead of demanding that everyone else do it before he does.

Hey that is a good Idea! While we are at it why don't we confiscate all of the "bad profits"? Now we are not talking about Apple, Microsoft, or Google because those are "good" companies. And we are certainly not talking about anything "Green" because they don't have profits. lets go after big oil, big pharma, and big coal and take all of their money.
