I'm not sure where this country failed? Was it our education system not doing a good enough of a job teaching people about basic biology or are we really just a nation of morons?

Cold gasses are more dense and thus per CC may have more combustable hydrocarbons but per hydrocarbon there is no more energy depending on "ambiet" temperature.
Feel free to test this, place a half dozen ice cubes in your gas tank and let us know how it works out.

You don't put ice in the gas - that would be silly. You build a cool can by coiling a few feet of gas line inside of a can, sealing the tubing openings, and filling the can with ice. There is probably a more professional setup in big buck racing that uses freon or something; but the ice can was how us budget folks used to do it. It's been a long time since I did it, but I recall reading that cooling the gas before it is injected into the combustion chamber results in more power. Can't remember the exact reason though; something to do with better atomization, or denser mixture?
So yes, my guess is that it's not that equal volumes of gas have different potential energy at different temps, but that you get more gas to burn, or get gas to burn more efficiently, if it is cooled prior to injection. Probably one or the other of those two.
Any chemist/combustion experts here that can explain better?

My late wife had a PhD in mathematics AND she drove her kids to soccer games.
She would have creamed you in any intellectual activity.
PS she also knew that gasoline expands on heating and contracts on cooling, so a gallon of cold gas has more mass than a gallon of warm gas, and hence a higher energy/gallon.

You may have misheard him, then. This issue has nothing to do with reflection or refraction, but rather with transmission. Ordinary window glass passes most light above about 300nm, and blocks most light below about 300nm. That means it passes visible light and UVA, a little UVB and almost no UVC.
Tanning beds emit radiation in the 400-290nm range (UVA) which is why they look purple. That's also the range that most UV light in sunlight occurs in, since ozone blocks the shorter wavelengths. It's also the range that gives people suntans, which is why they use it in tanning beds.
(Also note that tanning tubes use glass walled tubes. If you couldn't get a suntan through glass, tanning beds wouldn't work very well!)
If you total UVA, UVB and UVC, regular window glass passes about 60% of the energy in those bands. And UVA, the most easily passed, is the primary factor in getting a tan. So yes, you can get a tan behind window glass - but it might take a bit longer.

No, it's just denser. A gallon of cold gas contains more energy than a gallon of hot gas because a gallon of cold gas has more gas in it. (i.e. it weighs more.)

They get 20 gallons of cold gas, it expands to 20.5 gallons in the hot tank, they sell 20.5 gallons of hot gas, and the consumer ends up with 20 gallons of gas for the price of 20.5 once it cools off in their tank.

The public needs to be educated about the facts regarding vaccines and the consequences of not vaccinating. Those consequences extend to the community not just their child.
