In my entire life, I can't think of a single instance or thing a person of color could actually yell at me and I'd seriously react to because nothing would actually have any meaning. In fact, the more pissed off the guy would be in yelling at me, the more I'd probably laugh because the words are so meaningless.

On the flip side, I can think of quite a few things to call any one of a number of people of color that they'd have some very legitimate reasons to be pissed off about.

Just that alone tells me there's a difference.

I've often been called "Limey" or "The Limey" in the USA. It amuses me because the term originated on account of the perceptiveness of a British naval surgeon in supplying limes to sailors to prevent scurvy, and was used in ignorance as a pejorative by American sailors of the time. An early example of anti-intellectualism.

Anyway, let's not forget that racism is not necessarily related to skin color. I know it's not big in schools anymore since recognizing bigotry against whites isn't PC, but I still have a "NINA" sign that great grandpa took out of a window. NINA = No Irish Need Apply.

Interesting side note: the only time I've ever been called a nigger was when a dark-skinned person called me a potato-nigger. Of course, he also called my friend a sand-nigger. That really made him laugh because he is descended from Russian and Mayan ancestors. Of course, the only people I hear using "nigger" anymore are, in fact, "black" folks.

I'd say we're still waiting for an answer as to why you think racism is ok against some races and not against others, but that would imply we actually expect you to asnwer a clear and concise challenge to one of your many self-contradicting statments.

We don't expect an answer, and really don't expect much of use from you.

Right, N*****, boy and all the others remind us that whites owned blacks and kept them down until very recently, still occurrs in some places. Cracker reminds us that minorities have no real comeback. BET reminds us that they still feel seregated. Every time a stat is released and there's an asterisks or open comment about, "first black to..." we realize that some people still think blacks are inequivalent.

You don't consider that BET and the Black America pageant, and any other number of things - KEEPS them segregated.

Is it not possible that mainorities LIKE being a special group?

But calling an African American a derogatory name would mean something to their existence because of their relative's past?
They are allowed to care, but because Kennedy is white, he is not.
And don't confuse just saying any name against a minority is okay, but one's that were used during slavery, i.e. "Boy"
Obviously it affects some, but again, only if you are a minority, right?

I was about to write a long involved and deeply personal response, whose summation would basically be a polite version of TKE's post. Why does bad stuff that happened to someone else's grandpa matter more today than bad stuff that happened to mine?

And just so you know, whtih what I do and where I haev to go, I hear racial slurs and threats against me based on my race on a daily basis. I just chalk them up and ignorant trash, same as I do when I hear anyone of any race throwing slurs against someone else based on race. Nobody gets a pass on that nonsense in my book.

So coming full circle, why do you think some people act like racism is ok as long as it's not against a currently PC protected race? Why is racism OK for some races and not others?

Council overrides President Shirley’s veto, passes measures opposing the state of Arizona’s immigration, ethnic studies bills

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – The 21st Navajo Nation Council passed several pieces of legislation today during its 2010 Spring Special Session at the Navajo Nation Council Chamber.

The Navajo Nation Council narrowly passed two pieces of legislation (Legislation No. 0297-10 and Legislation No. 0302-10), which were sponsored by Council Delegate Kee Allen Begay (Many Farms/Rough Rock) opposing the state of Arizona’s immigration and ethnic studies bills (Senate Bill 1070 and House Bill 2281).

In effort to address the immigration bill, Council Delegate Begay sponsored Legislation No. 0297-10, which opposes Senate Bill 1070 for unlawfully infringing on the constitutional, civil, and human rights of indigenous peoples in the state of Arizona. The measure passed the Council floor, 30-24.

“In a way, the immigration bill is an attempt to harass Native Americans,” Begay said. “When we are pulled over or stopped we are usually pulled over and asked for our IDs. Sometimes we do not carry those things and perhaps at that time we will have difficulty proving we are Native American. This legislation is a stance for the protection of Native Americans in Arizona.”

Begay also cited a study conducted by the University of Cincinnati Policing Institute, which was prepared for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, that Native Americans were the most likely to be arrested at a
rate of 4.5 percent compared to Blacks who were arrested at a rate of 3.2 percent, Hispanics at a rate of 2.9 percent and Whites at a rate of 1.6 percent. Begay said this study strongly indicates the need to oppose the immigration bill because of infringement of constitutional, civil and human rights.

Leonard Gorman, executive director for the Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission, agreed.

“A police officer can stop and detain an individual for violating an existing law and if a law enforcement officer has reasonable suspicion that person who got pulled over will be asked for documentation,” Gorman said. “Once you are arrested you are going through the immigration process. It will not work. It will clog up the immigration system.”

Legislation No. 0302-10 opposing Arizona House Bill 2281 for restricting ethnic studies in Arizona elementary and secondary schools also passed the Council floor, 45-2.

Council Delegate GloJean Todacheene (Shiprock) commended Council Delegate Begay on his legislation action efforts and said, “Bilagaanas (white people) forget they created a nation of immigrants – they invaded us and yet now they do not like it because America is becoming more brown or of an ethnic mix. The pendulum of civil rights can swing back and forth at anytime. I commend Kee Allen for his efforts.”
