Read the following.

I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid Aoccdrnig to rscheearch taem at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Such a cdonition is arppoiately cllaed Typoglycemia.

Thought it was pretty cool.

that is cool...and yes, spelling is important. when i come across writings that have many misspellings, i don't give the author as much respect as i would otherwise.

so, even if the premise of the article is sound, poor spelling affects the way in which i regard the piece.

The first time my husband emailed me after becomming intregued by my online personals ad, his email got deleted after a very quick perusal. It was one line, no punctuation, horrible spelling. I never even gave the illiterate idiot a chance.

I responded (unknowingly) to his ad a couple weeks later. Turns out he's not nearly as stupid as he came across in that first email. But his grammatical skills are still atrocious.

Maybe I should have used a better topic sentence. The primary purpose was to show how something can be misspled and still be read.

A person who can spell a word more than one way shows they have a creative mind. Or like me, there a product of Public Education. We all have our crosses to bear, bear..is that proper??? It looks right, it sounds right...but is it really.

Sorry, got to go load up the RV-7A and fly on over to SkyFest.

See, I used There instead of their..but do you care.

If you wish to convince others that your position on an issue is well thought out and likely to be correct, you do NOT help your case if you spell like an idiot.

correct. because we all know, idiots cant spell.:S

and if you cant spell, your an idiot.

you will miss out on alot in this world with that attitude.

do you think you would survive if there all of a sudden no stores? no money? what would you do? could you make it? would you be able to feed yourself? would you be able trade what your skills are for other trades or goods?

there would be a whole other class of "idiots" then.

calm down turbo...he said like and idiot. that means that he's not calling people who can't spell idiots; he's saying that idiots can't spell. that's a subtle but important difference here.

Actually, it's "they're" - the contraction of "they are". And I learned that in public schools. ;)
(Psst - You also misspelled the word "misspelled". :P)

Do I care? Nah. The question is whether you care...

Being an engineer, I think I'd do better than most. The fabric of our civilization was created by engineers, not by marketing consultants, used car salesmen, disk jockeys, beauticians or professional skydivers.

lol....

im glad for that.. also thank god im none of those.

well a couple might be hobbies...

do you think you could get an engineering degree not knowing how to spell?

bet your ass you can....B|

if you can build, and create what you engineer, yes you probably would be fine.

but the question is, if you never had been able to go get the degree, could you still do it?

sorry im a bit defensive, my spelling sucks, not because i can't, just because it makes no sense to me. kinda like useless information.
