Internet pornography is the new crack cocaine, leading to addiction, misogyny, pedophilia, boob jobs and erectile dysfunction, according to clinicians and researchers testifying before a Senate committee Thursday.

narth.com These guys are scary. Highly educated people with a preconceived set of ideas trying to "fix" homosexuals.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

>At least we ignore Leonardo, the boss etc

So far we've elected a hollywood actor to the presidency and an action hero to governor of CA. Which party were they again? One of the parties clearly places a lot of trust in what hollywood produces.

At least they were the hollywood figures that are okay.

Which pretty much sums up the hypocrisy of some people in that party.

What I essentially hear them saying is, "Actors speaking out on political issues is BAD . . . unless it serves "our" purposes."

Same goes for union leaders . . .

Don't forget Charleton (sp?) Heston.

What exactly are you referring to with regards to union leaders?

Before he was President of the United States, Reagan was the President of the Screen Actors Guild, a -very- powerful union in Hollywood.

Once Reagan became President of the United States, he decimated the power of the unions in the U.S., so it was a kind of double slap in the face.

Or maybe it was just a principled stand. Unions are a government sanctioned and enforced monopoly. Sometimes they need to be reined in.

And marijuana is "killer dope" making people either psychotically violent or thinking they can fly...

Those were people who actually wanted to take part in the leadership process, not just flap their gums in bitter, insulting, hypercritical discontent.

>Right, you just elect former KKK Grand Wizards and an incompetent peanut farmers.

And you have:

Nixon, the only president ever removed from office for his crimes.

Thurmond, a truly legendary bigot. A quote - "I want to tell you that there's not enough troops in the army to force the southern people to break down segregation and admit the Negro race into our theaters, into our swimming pools, into out homes, and into our churches"

Santorum, who once compared homosexuality to having sex with dogs.

Rehnquist, who stated publically that he thinks segregation in schools should be reinstated.

Given the choice, I'll take the boring peanut farmer.

I think we might disagree about this as a definition.

Its not a definition of a union, but it is an attribute. I'd be interested in seeing your disagreement spelled out.

You said, "Unions are a government sanctioned and enforced monopoly."

I refer you to Ronald Reagan when he fired the Air Traffic Controllers and put a pissing contest over the safety and security of the flying public.

That was a union that was -busted- by the government.

Ever since that point in time, businesses have been enboldened to do that same and many have, so, I maintain that the pendulum has swung far the other way and now protects businesses far more than collective barganing agreements. I further maintain that without the unions we'd never have the "40 hour work week" or the "8 hour day". Without the advent of the unions the average person's working conditions would be atrocious.

Having lived and worked variously as a non-union worker, union worker and contract comittee member as well as management and representing my department in labor negotiations, I can confidently say my standard of living, take home pay, benefits, job security . . . all of the fruits of labor where much better and more abundant when I was in the union and especially in the days when the unions were stronger.

I have absolutely no idea how the Republicans sold the majority of the country on the concept that "unions are bad", but they have and the average Joe and Jane blue collar worker has been totally screwed over and their jobs shipped over seas because of it.

Companies are not your friends. They are there to make maximum profit off your labor or even worse -- without it. They fight tooth and nail against paying the hardest working people that do the most disgusting jobs in society the minumum wage.

They'd pay even less if they could . . . but it's against the law.

And that doesn't even stop all of them.
