Louisana DZ's

Recommended Posts

There is a job offer I am considering in Shreveport. First I will keep my house & pool. But have a small apt there. Stay there Sun - Thursday. But the main thing is where to jump?
My career depends on this!!
Tell me where the DZ's are and do they have a real plane?
Tanks!

Ain't it great?! It just cracks me up the way skydivers will center their lives around how close the DZ is :) Merrick and I just can't seem to get our family and friends to understand that part of the reason we chose the place we want to move to is that there are TWO DZ's very close...big ones...and more a little further away. Now, c'mon, how can that NOT be a huge plus?! LOL!

I think Jaime, aka Jumpergirl could answer that question best since she lives near there (Texarkana). I think the DZ in Shreveport closed down at the beginning of the year after the novice went in down there. I think Gladewater is the closest DZ to there now.

I kind of think they're still jumping at Shreveport....the reviews I've heard haven't been great, but you know how people like to bitch. A few of my jumpin' buddies have jumped at Gladewater and REALLY like that dz. Also....we have a little club that jumps only once a month at Camden, AR.... We have a few folks that come up from Shreveport cause we're so nice and so much fun to play with!!! We're a small but happy bunch! Peace~

Shreveport used to be a great DZ on a real Airport with a good relationship with the other airport residents.
Gonzales LA has a Cessna, sometimes a KingAir and an occasional CASA boogie (very fun). There are a bunch og fun people out there and some good freeflyers.
Jeanrette, LA (close to Lafayette) had a Cessne DZ, but they closed when Airport raised lease. It is for sale or maybe bought and getting ready for operation.

Congrats on the job. Did some poking around, it looks like S'port City Skydivers is what you're looking for.

Hope you can still make it down to Houston to jump every now & then!

Levin my house mate and the red and yellow fellow that graces my web page alot. Started jumping at Gladewater. I think I have seen every video he took there. Nice group of freeflyers. I jumped with them recently here in Houston.
The job is for a ton of money, but .... I think it would be too far from any "family"
I could pick up some family at Gladewater, since I know almost 5 folks from there already.
Someone said there was a DZ downtown Shreveport. And it was great for night jumps.
I still dont know, there are too many things in this life that are worth more than money.
But then again, I could afford to fly back every weekend and then, a new Sony camera, new rig, a 2nd new rig, new helmet for camera....... lots of jumps,........lots of coach jumps ....... Trip to Norway, Hi Espen!
I dont know, I have another offer in town that is a real good onle also and I can still have the stuff I want and still get to be home, mow my own yard and clean my own pool. Then travel alot. Maybe that is the way to go.
Biggest problem with Quasi- moving over there are my kids -Flea Flyer can go with me, the new jumping parnter, smallest dog in the world and smartest. Fetches at 10 weeks. But Skeet, my Great Dane, the largest dog in the world (both are spoiled inside dogs) would likely be more difficult to sneak around. And Flea and Skeet are a matching set. Another reason I got FLea, ex-boyfriend took his dog back, poor guy, the dog that is. So Skeet was looking for his friend all over every night, so I got Flea. Skeet was not impressed with his size. But Fleas screw you big dog attitude won him over. They love each other. Flea sits on his head and is teething on his ear, Skeet doesnt move, But his tail is sore from Flea dangleing from it. Skeet would not do well in an apartment. And he has to have a place to run, hence I have 2 lots on a cul de sac. He could stay here with Levin and I take Flea Flyer, but then they would miss each other.
Decisions, they suck.
Let me see my priorities are my dogs and skydiving.
Hey, I finally got my head on straight. And this time, I am staying single forever. My dogs understand me 100%. The end.

Airann,
I lived in Leesville; an hour south of S'port for three years. Shreveport resumed jumping at the Downtown Airport in march of this year. I last jumped there in april before moving to Kentucky. Shreveport is a beautiful place to jump- you are right over the red river and the spot is often right over downtown buildings and the riverboat casinos. In addition, you get a good view of all the nuclear B-52s on standby at nearby Barksdale air force base. The only downside is that there is only a cessna there right now. If your are addicted to jumping you may be disappointed with that. SD Dallas in Whitewright is about 3 hours from Shreveport and has bigger aircraft.

Dang, the offer is back on the table again. I dont know!!!!
The Pros and Cons are about the same. Another offer came in and I kinda like getting off at 4, to go skydive. And I can be at home with my dogs and the "freefly zone" at my house can remain the the big screen video review house and serious skydiving disscussions after beer. When someone leaves or arrives it is kinda unnerveing when somebody yells DOOR!
If any of you are in the area stop by. The tube jumpin stuff is just awesome footage. And as freeflyers you know, we wind up with 7 views on an 8 way skydive. Its about to be 8 when I get mine repaired and mounted. Yippee.

Airann... I live in Shreveport now. The "drop zone" that was at the downtown airport is NOT a USPA member drop zone. Some people still go there to jump, but I don't. I go to Gladewater which is only an hour away. The people there are wonderful. The drop zone is pretty and everything about it is great. I STRONGLY recommend going there over anywhere else. It is the closest one to us, afterall. When will you be in Shreveport?? Keep in touch and maybe we can get together when you get in town.

Jaime

If I do take the position, it will be within about 2 weeks or ASAP. Its 50/50 right now. I can have the job if I want it but I am waiting out on this other one with way less stress and its here in Houston.
Regardless, I am going to Gladewater, I know too many people from there including Levin Jackson who lives at my house in Houston now. I have seen ever conseiveable video from there up to about his 500th jump. Nice place. From those videos I think I might be able to get my skinny ass out onto the strut. I have always jumped Super Otters or Otters. I know its fun, I have heard that.
But, my Dad used to haul me all around in both a Piper Cub then a Scitaboria, which is airobatics spelled backwards. I was a kid and all I could really see was the inside of the airplane when strapped in. And I had to stay strapped in cause he did all kinds of Split S's and Loops and crazy stuff, then I would get air sick sometimes. So, when I think about a small plane - Air Sick comes to mind. Other than that- Its all good.

I too recently moved to Monroe, LA, and I've been finding it quite frustrating to find a new DZ to go too. If I don't find one soon, I'm going to have to move to another state. Finding a DZ was my outlet after working all week. Anyone having information concerning DZs near Monroe, Louisiana, please, please provide. Going nuts in the "Sportsman's Paradise"...

Wow, babe - I'll really miss you. But one thing I love about this sport...you meet people from all over, you love to stay in touch and you get together at boogies. At least if Im every your way, I'll have someone to jump with! Let's have a AIRANN party before you leave. And don't forget about that Bikini Jump you promised me!

Hey Zen: I am already practicing over here. You know the not sleeping with anybody part, the part that sux.
As far as habits: I dont need anymore Hooked On Phonics BS.
I am so done with all that. My friend told me that psychs say, that it takes 6 weeks to realize -in fact, a habit has been officially broken. That is how long it takes. So, I try to consider each habit first, to see if I really want to be addicted or not. You know, trying to think ahead.
