TequilaGirl 0 #27 October 10, 2002 I have some vicodin.........
dida 0 #28 October 10, 2002 i messed my knee up about a month ago, as well. i HATE going to the doc (plus have no insurance), so i've been doing a lot of icing and daily doses of vitamin I (ibuprofen). actually, ibuprofen is a very effective anti-inflammatory, and i highly recommend it. is your knee swollen? if so, the pain from trying to bend or straighten it to an extreme could just be from the limitations caused by the swollen bursae. can you put weight on it? can you bend and straighten your knee (not entirely, of course, but to some degree) with ALL of your weight on it? if so, it is probably not ligament damage. i have a good friend who was once a physical therapist and these are the bits of knowledge he passed along to me. if you can put weight on it and hobble around, i recommend this. always follow any activity with icing (it is such a pain in the ass - it takes so much time, but it really makes a difference). do whatever you can to keep the other muscles in your leg strong so that they can support your weakened knee as it heals. of course, i am no doctor, nor is my friend, but this is what seems to be working for me...thought i'd pass it along. spiral out...keep going... weid14 0 #30 October 10, 2002 loose joints are bad if you're into skiing, b-ball, soccer, etc. it's easier to sprain/strain/tear/pull, or otherwise injure yourself. if it's a ligament it will typlically swell, if it's cartlidge only it usually won't but hurts like a bugger at certain times. Women typically have a higher incidence of knee injury due to the "Q" angle (hip to knee angle that the femur makes) being higher than a male (again, typically). this angle puts more strain on the joint, also women tend to have "looser" joints by design. The rate of ACL/PCL/MCL injuries in women collegiate basketball is much much higher than men due to this.

skycat 0 #34 October 10, 2002 Quote loose joints are bad if you're into skiing, b-ball, soccer, etc. They are also bad for walking to the plane (dislocated 2 bones in my foot), walking down stairs (knee several times), rollerblading (knee), walking the dog (ankle), hiking down a mountain (knee), being hit in freefall (knee), and those are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. So yeah I know loose joints are bad, on the other hand they heal really fast, usually within 2 to 3 days I'm back to 100% (for me) which is about 80% for the rest of the world. I love when I go to the doctor and he says, well maybe it's normal for you.Fly it like you stole it!

trilete312 0 #37 October 10, 2002 Knees + Pain = Bad If you can, see a doc. If not, try Aleve. It is an over-the-counter version of Naprosin one of the very frequently prescribed anti-inflamatories out there. If you just have some swelling, Ice + Aleve might help. Hope you feel better.----------- Ready, Set, Gooooooo

Skitzo 0 #40 October 10, 2002 Aww geeze, thats not good . If its swollen you mighta tore your ACL, MCL, or PCL. If its not terribly swollen you might have damaged your miniscus (cartilage). Any way you look at it, if you cant walk it off within a couple days then its probably serious, get your buns to a doc. "How do you keep your feet on the ground when you know you were born to fly?" jfields 0 #42 October 10, 2002 I think in the long run, that was the wise choice. I hope for your sake that they just say something like, "Ice it, take to advil and call in the morning." I hope it is nothing big. Good luck, man!

Trust me on this one, I tore my MCL and did ACL damage this summer to one of my knees, its NOT fun, but you'll heal faster if its properly cared for.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." It really started bothering me after the AOT boogie, but I figured it'd go away or I'd just live with it(b/c no insurance). Well, I thought it was ok to jump. So last weekend I jump, land kinda hard and really screw up my knee. Now I'm seeing a knee specialist at a sports med clinic. He said its possibly "tissue damage" and I'm afraid there is a good possibility he could ground me,but I wont know for sure until my appointment next week.Be careful and get it checked out. Dont be stupid and cause further injury.Good luck and hope you heal soon. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
 nws01 0 #46 October 11, 2002 I went to the doctor. X Rays came out clean but the swelling is so severe that they can't determine cartalidge or ligament damage until it goes down. However, I have all the effects of damage. My knee locks, sharp pains, unable to straighten it all the way or bend it back. So once the swelling goes down I have to go back and get it scoped. I am now it a huge leg brace and on crutches. The doc grounded me.
