Yeah, I agree but I am looking for opinions on the fields themselves, then I can gauge what I know from you folks against what I know I like. I'm interested in pretty much aynthing that gives me a challenge and allows some creative outlet though...

Also, I forgot to add Business to the poll... oops! :$

For the record, I've been in college twice and left once due to drinking and a second time due to a family... I was a Music Education major once and a Theatre/Literature dbl major the second time... :P

It is hard to give advise without knowing your interests, but I can tell you that Education is the way to go. I am in school working on my Masters in Education and although the pay is not the best in the world you get all your summers off and still get paid. So you are working 10 months out of the year and the benefits are great too. :)
With certain degrees you are not limited to elem, middle, or high school. You can teach at community colleges...at least the behavior problems won't be as bad there ;)

FYI: It also doesn't hurt if you like kids. For me, I like other peoples' kids, cuz they can go home to their parents at the end of the day!!! Just a warning....you will need tons of patience cuz the classrooms can be crazy!

That's awesome you're deciding to go back to school! It takes a lot of discipline. I, myself, am thinking of a career change. Follow your heart, do what makes you happy & what challenges you to do your best.............B|

Every field will have pros/cons. You should consider so many things...

-place where you want to live
-employment opportunities in the area
-current & future market (employment) trends
-current & future salary trends
-growth opportunity in the industry

remember... its your life, so you should be the one to answer:

-what do you want to be?

Boy, technology is a pretty wide field. Engineering? Bio? Chemical? Electrical? IT-type training? Programming? Communications? Mechanical? Civil?

It's like anything else. Decide what you want to do every day, then choose your career accordingly. I like designing and building things; I became an engineer (electrical in my case.) Amy liked fixing people; she became a surgeon.

I'd advise you to study something that makes you curious and gives you pleasure (and I don't mean "how did they do that" about the pictures in Penthouse). Because you'll probably get pleasure out of it all of your life.

People who can work at something they enjoy are happiest.

That said, I'm a programming manager for a government contractor. I get to work with old, not-very-state-of-the-art tools on some totally cool stuff. I have flexible hours (which were very important when my son was younger), and some security. The pay is good for me, but the security and cool factor is part of my pay -- it's definitely higher in the private sector.

My degree was in sociology, and I've enjoyed social work in the past, too. But I'll admit it doesn't pay quite as well...

I'm about to go back to school after 6 years to get a Masters in Public Health. It's a great degree with lots of options afterwards whether you are scientifically inclined (which I am;)) or administratively inclined (is that a word?). Health care has always been my interest and after working in a lab for 6 years, I feel like it's time to actually get out there and work with people.
You have to figure out what your interests are in....where will you have a chance to actually like your job? What will you actually contribute? Those were the questions I asked myself....anyways, hope that helps.
