Examples - "pop" or "boom" or "buzz" Note - this definition came from a dictionary, but the grammar is poor because the sentence ends in "to". It seems like someone writing a dictionary would know better. Anyway... skydiving has certain "words" that are used and everyone knows what they mean. "Ka-ching" - the sound of your 3-rings releasing. Used as a substitute for "cutaway" in reference to emergency procedures or relationships. "Whang" - I started using this after hearing someones helmet bounce off the sidewall of a skyvan. Used to refer to striking a solid object (probably a plane part) with part of your bod. happythoughts 0 #4 November 18, 2003 Quote"Pvvvvvrrrrrrrffffffffft"--the sound you hear right before jump run. I told someone about that. I was on a commerical hop flight. A Saab twin-turbo. We were talking about the sound changes that the engines/props make on jump run. Then we started discussing engine malfunctions. We were flying at 12,500, so every time we went through the edge of a cloud, the engines changed pitch and it got bumpy. Another passenger would look at us and see if we were reaching for our gear. Michele 1 #5 November 18, 2003 I make up words all the time....but I haven't invested one regarding skydiving. There is one I've used to describe how I feel standing at the plane door - "twizzled" - but it's not onomonopoetic. It's just accurate. happythoughts 0 #6 November 18, 2003 Twizzled is how your brain/body feel, so it is kinda the same. It's just not a sound. High performance canopies made "femur" a verb and it is supposed to be a noun. ( <- the little ouch face)
