Aviatrr 0 #77 March 16, 2004 Quote Sweetie, I took a FF tunnel camp. I enjoyed it, but RW makes me GLOW!!!! I just have so much fun on my belly. I LOVE 4-WAY!!! It's different for everyone, Rky, you will see as you progress that everyone moves around in disciplines in this sport...lol. You did a FF tunnelcamp? With which group? I'm considering one...but, unfortunately, Alchemy is running camps when I'm stuck working...and can't take the time off because I have to save that vacation time for WFFC.. I also considered the Anomoly Insomnia camp...might be able to swing that one, but won't know until I talk to the boss in a couple days.. Mike
Amazon 7 #78 March 16, 2004 Ok first off I am alrighty.....The Triathalon is fixable..only 25% of the lines blew up on the opening. and a couple seams are a bit stressed which probably kept me from getting hurt. I did sit out the rest of the day with a tad bit of soreness and a ringing in my ears AFTER the adrenaline rush of the whole thing finally wore off. Today.. all is well. We flew the Otter back to Kapowsin and my Infinity with my Raven - M with the Handles and the D Bag.. are sitting there waiting for the premature repack and Spring CleaningNo it was not my first reserve ride.. it was my 6th. Tomorrow is the 1st anniversary of my coming back into the sport of skydiving.... and I REALLY like this new fangled technology. This was my first cutaway with this fancy 3 ring thing Bill Booth came up with and my first square reserve ride. When you can stick a standup in the peas and have all of your junk land within 100 yards and you hold onto your handlesI can assure you I did not stand up any of the other 5 reserve rides ( 2 C-9 belly warts, 1 24ft military belly wart , 2 26' Lopo) all of them with the Capewell releases designated J-1 releases by the military. With those you popped BOTH covers down at the same time... and inserted your thumbs UP thru the steel cables with the two little swaged balls on them and yanked... then you pulled your reserve handle with your right hand while covering the capewells with your left arm to prevent the reserve from entangling in the remaining portion of the releases and the covers. When I did this dive I was right over the DZ and airport at Mesquite Nevada. I was wearing a turtleneck shirt and my Red and White BirdMan PANTZ that LouDiamond sold me at the Holiday Boogie ( shameless plug) tracked a bit off the flight line to make sure no one else would be below me.. and went into the dive....bobled a little but just screamed at the ground. It was a very stable dive after the initial bobbles with a bit of a wind issue with my SORZ goggles letting in a bit of wind around the edges. I pulled out into a track at 5k when I heard my Pro-Track beeping the first warning... and held it to bleed off speed then went to a belly stable for about 4 sec( next time it will be longer) When my second alarm went off at 2500 I deployed and had an instantaneous canopy. I immediately knew that it was not going to be flyable ( IS IT CONTROLLABLE) when I saw the nose in the center folding under and the whole mess breathing with the 2 outside cells on each side trying to fly but with the center collapsed with dangling lines. I had lines around me so I cleared them away from my handles on my Infinity ( very custom placement by KellyF so I can actually see the damn handles)( another shameless plug) looked at my green pillow and grabbed it...( I like contrast.. since all my gear is RED I looked at my silver handle and grabbed it... then looked at my three ring ( hey I wanted to watch it go bye bye) (designed by billbooth.. a well deserved shameless plug) and pulled green then silver very quickly. I fell away from the main and stretched out my arms and legs and looked above me as my pilot chute pulled the d-bag to full extension and pulled out the reserve. I watched the pretty sky blue Raven that Skybytch sold me open over my head( another shameless plug). I saw the D bag and PC dangling in the air above me and the main was fluttering in the breeze for a moment I thought about grabbing them in flight but thought better of it. I unstowed the brake toggles ( oh still holding the cutaway and silver handle no way I am tossin em) and did a couple maneuverability checks as well as a practice flare. I watched where my junk was going to land. I set up for the landing and as the ground came up did a nice single flare( I have jumped a Raven before as a MAIN so I was ready for a single flare and know how a 7 cell flies) I stood it up right there in the landing area as Brad the DZO was walking out. He was afraid I had broken my back or hurt my neckl.. but I was too stoked to even feel anything other than elation. He walked over to the edge of the runway where my main landed and my d-bag and PC came down just less than 100 yards away. That children is a GOOD SPOT. After I got my gear off I took a look at my Pro Track. Max speed 310MPH Verified by just about everyone there...ok so I am a show offI need to download the thing when I get home and look at the profile of the graph in the JUMP TRACK software. After that I decided to pass on offers of gear to make some more jumps..nah.. I was tweaked and I knew it.. a bit sore but today everything is fine not even sore at all..( I also declined because there is an old addage that borrowed gear kills) I enjoyed the sun and the people and still had a good time. ( some beer helped and a few margaritas and a 2" thick prime rib at the casino later also helped) Lessons learned..slow my fat ass down when I come out of a dive like that. diablopilot 2 #80 March 16, 2004 I'll add my two cents here. Speed dives are not normal skydives. The amount of time to slow down to normal freefall, and safe deployment speeds is huge. The speeds are WAY faster than your gear was ever designed to go. The forces from that high an airspede are imense. a loose flap that works fine in normal feefall can blow open or rip off. A normal good condition pilot chute can fail instantly. All speed runs should be stoped by 6000 AGL, and this is to plan for a deployment of 2500 AGL. I already know one person who has died practicing speed dives.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. Amazon 7 #82 March 16, 2004 Noted.. but I have to say I discussed this with a rig manufacturer. I told him I wanted to get a rig that was capable of 300MPH..... and he told me I already had it. I did do a bit of research before I tried doing this. The gear is good I trust my life to it on every jump. The Pilot chute is brand new. I did a thorough check of the gear before the jump no loose flaps.. the PC was stowed tightly and the flaps were all tight. I made sure the Pin was secure both main and reserve.. and the bridle tucked into the flap deeply. Any further dives will have the main packed by me personally and I will roll it very tightly to prevent this from happening again.. and I will be getting in better shape to stand the stresses involved in slowing down. Roger that. I know what rig you have, and agree it's one of the best on the market. Especialy for that! Please be careful, I'd hate to lose another. Amazon 7 #84 March 16, 2004 Its on my helmet.... I know the official way is to mount it on the main lift web... and I will be doing that.. I know this was not a sustained speed but the other numbers were pretty high. I know it was not in a burble cause my head was pointed down looking at the ground.... 300 MPH makes for a hell of a windburn. I will continue to practice this discipline. This weekend was the first time this year I was someplace I really wanted to try it at. I cranked out a 261MPH on Saturday and decided to go for it...I have another Protrack that I left at home in the interface.. so I had to keep it to one.. and I wanted the one I did have in a place I could hear it. Even then the noise was so great I barely heard the first warning go off. I want to mount 1 on my MLW and have 2 in my helmet for stereo screaming when I get to breakoff...at least for practice. I still need to get a slick suit.... which should get me good and unstable when I try to fly it the first few times from what I hear.

jtval 0 #88 March 16, 2004 QuoteQuotethe question was how long did the jump last It lasted different lengths of time depending on who you ask. It's all relative, so >8^P` Just don't ask me to do relative work how did I know you were gonna go there. The jump actually lasted 3 nanoseconds. it may have SEEMED longer then that to those on the ground but if you ask JEANNE to look at her protrack It'll say 3 NANOSECONDS!My photos My Videos

You can get higher than normal readings mounting on your helmet as it is in a high(er) pressure region.
