Which one would you choose and why?

Recommended Posts

I am buying one for my daughter - she turned 11 today - which system would you get - and what games would you buy to accompany it.

She likes the 3d mario like adventures. And the Toystory games - Adventure games - no 1st Person shooters.

My son had the same delimma for his birthday this year also (he turned 13). He picked Playstation 2 and seems quite happy with it.

I've got Nintendo Game Cube - lots of kid friendly games... the little girl that lives in the apt. above us has it too (I think she's 11), and we're always trading games. The 'kid games' are fun too!

i'd go with the nintendo game cube for an 11 year old... most of the games available for it are aimed at younger folks. more 'cute and cuddly' type games available for it than the fps and hard core sports games on the other systems.

edited to add game suggestions:

pikmin is really fun (for adults too). it's kind of a puzzle game and will make her fiugre out solutions to problems. there's a sequel coming out this fall sometime. the mario games (and luigi's mansion) are good.

i would also suggest you find out what her friends have, if they can share games, it costs you less money!

I voted for PlayStation 2. It probably has the most games available for it (it plays PS1 games). It plays audio CDs and DVD movies. Also, they dropped the price to $150.

I recommend looking for the game Road Trip. It's Japanese import and a fun little adventure game (rated E). It has a lot of racing (but that's not the sole point of it).

Also, bookmark http://www.gamefaqs.com. It's the best source I've found for reviews, FAQs, walkthrus, cheats... for any system.

None. Let her save up her own money to buy silly things like that. I have never bought my sons any of their video games or systems. At age 11, she needs to be out and about instead of sitting in front of the T.V. wasting away the day.

I'm with Lew on this one. Buy a bike, and you two get out and enjoy the nice summer days together building some bonds. Before you know it, she won't want to spend time with her dad.

Last Year, I bought my Daughter the Game Cube (She was 11 then) because it had the games she liked, Mario and others. That did not last long at all before she grew out of those games.
We just packed everything up a few months ago and traded everything for a Playstation2 and PS2 Games. No good games for the Game cube compared to the Playstation. The game cube was geared much more for children than “Tweens”.
The games my daughter really loves now are the Sim`s Games. She also really liked Gauntlet - Dark Legacy and Bauldors Gate. You cant go wrong with a PS2.

I held out with my son until he was 11 for his first system (Playstation 1) when he was begging for it and saying he didn't want anything else but that for his birthday. I realized that he had a really good balance in his life between his sports, 2 instruments and straight A's in school that the games wouldn't do too much harm. He chooses to play it instead of watching tv at night. Everyone needs a little bit of vegging out time. At least he's getting hand-eye coordination and using his brain a little when he plays them. As long as there is a time restriction and rules are made in the beginning that it gets played only after chores and studying are done, I don't think the games are a big problem. I DO restrict what types of games he can play though, which he hates!

My vote would be for the game cube. I have all three systems, and I prefer the game cube. The controller is smaller and easier to use than x-box and ps2. And if I play ps2 for long periods of time I get blisters

Most games other than nintendo only games are out on all three systems. thanatos talks about the games his daughter likes to play,

"The games my daughter really loves now are the Sim`s Games. She also really liked Gauntlet - Dark Legacy and Bauldors Gate. You cant go wrong with a PS2"

They ALL are available on the game cube platform.

Generally if your going to do a lot on online broadband gaming you'd go with an x-box,
- the ps2 is for people who like to play a lot of games: ps2 does have the most games available to play on the platform, but that is only because there system is backward compatible, so most of those games the are for ps one.
-The gamecube is designed for a slightly younger age group. But there is no shortage of games forr older players, as all new games come out on all three platforms (again)

More importantly, buy your kid what they want. If they want an xbox and you bring home a ps2, she'll cry throw it in the corner and never touch it. Generally kids want what their friends have.

There are three systems and lots of opinions. Take mine for what you will.

Mary:
She has a bike (one at each house) - I don't - can you see me trying to justify spending money on a bike for me on her birthday? :o She wouldn't see the logic - no matter WHAT you said and did.;) I opted for the game cube - it has more "Girly" games and stuff. She's not the HALO type of kid.B|

Andrea:

Definately time limits - she ended up kicking ass on her grades and made the AB honor roll. So, as long as she is making effort to be better organised - and basically just shows effort towards learning to do what she is supposed to do when she is supposed to do it - (something I was never really taught) I don't see a problem with it.

Oh, and I also got her a copy of "Pack Like A Pro" . . . Ok - no, not really.:)
