I NEED HELP WITH A FUND RAISER EVENT

Recommended Posts

I try to do a fund raising event for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital every year. This year I would like to make skydiving the big star and a huge contributor to the event. I would love some suggestions and ideas about how to make this a big money maker and a great PR movement for the sport of skydiving. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!
Elvis

Good luck with that:S

IMO, if you limit it to just skydivers, you are limiting how much money you will bring in. If you make the fund raiser something that more mainstream people can do, you'll bring in more money. Maybe a foot race.

Can you get a radio or TV station involved. Make a big grid in a landing area and have spectators come and bet which squares the skydivers are going to land in. Charge XXX per guess. The winning squares get XXX prize. Maybe make it a free tandem or some other fabulous prizes. I bet you can get some great prizes from the non-skydiving community too! Think big! Like cars, motorcycles, etc.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you only make it half way, you'll end up with a star!

Just a thought....

Elvis,

I am very new to the sport so i will not presume to tell anyone how to utilize skydiving as a fund raiser. However with that said I just held a very large raffle that made approximately $15,000 for a remote control club I belong to.

Raffles are difficult at best, first you need to get the donations of items that sky divers would want and would be willing to spend money on for the opportunity of winning, have tickets printed, market the tickets and then actually hold the drawing (having the drawing at a boogie at your home DZ would be best).

Good Luck,

Phil

A large majority of skydivers are broke, or nearly broke. Try adding $5 to a registration fee for a boogie so you can do something cool for them and listen to the bullshit static coming back and you'll understand that skydivers aren't that good for things like raffles.

It would depend upon how much work you are willing to put into it, how large of a dropzone it is at,and how much you want to raise. Keeping it just to the skydiving world will keep it on the smaller side. If you want to raise more, it will take more than just a few months of work, and it will require you to go outside our sport.

With the amount they raise, I can only imagine the hours of work that goes into JFTC.

For the last three years Team Funnel has done a fundraiser for Make A Wish and broke the $5000 mark each time. This helped fill three full wishes for some amazing children. We are doing the same thing again this year. But it takes a lot of work from a bunch of people. This year we have six or seven people that will be donating time and money to help fill another wish over the next five months (originally planning started 7 months ago). We have another ten to twenty that help out the weekend of the event.

There are some very big, warm hearts in this sport that have donated a bunch to our efforts each year - and some are on this forum.

Trust me, I know the drawing power of half naked women.
The last fundraiser that I did was called "camp out for the kids". I got donations for the amount of time that I lived in the bar that I work at and finished the process with a "strip off" (a competition for the escort services in the area) I ended up living in the bar for 2 weeks, lost a good portion of my mind and the camp out barely made more money than strip off.

What I was wondering about is if any has done a walk-a-thon type of fundraiser with skydiving? You know, instead of so much money per mile walked, you would have people/businesses donate based on the number of jumps a preson/group/dz pulled off in a weekend. I just want to do something good for a good cause and bring some good publicity to skydiving at the same time.

I would like to say thanks to everyone who has taken the time to help me out!

It’s not skydiving, but I just saw a flyer for a Texas Hold Em tournament fund raiser for a kids softball team. There’s a $35 buy in with a $25 rebuy in if you like up to the two hour point. They advertised a $3000 pay out, down ten places with that increasing if more participated. There was also pop and beer included. It said that they anticipated at least 300 people, you do the math. Maybe the skydivers could sponsor the poker tournament?
Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else.

A Texas hold 'em tournament was the FIRST thing that came to mind. The only problem is that it is illegal here. Even if all of the money raised is given to a charity and people are playing for prizes that were donated. I had commitments for some great prizes that gamblers would have loved but the city shut me down. STINKIN’ BIBLE BELT!
