"White Flag" by Dido.

But, it doesn't take much for me to tear up over songs, commercials, if animals are hurt in the movies, whatever:P;)

That's really, really good one. When my most recent relationship ended, I hadn't seen it coming and never wanted it to happen. I'd hear that song pretty regularly and it would often make my mind drift into a fantasy of her hearing that song and feeling really bad that she broke up with me.

I doubt the reality was anywhere close to that, but it made me feel a bit better.

The Cars ..... Drive

I was at Live Aid (1985) at Wembley Stadium, they played this song on giant screens over video clips of dieing children in Africa. You could have almost heard a pin drop as 100,000 were silent and watching the screens. Everywhere you looked people were crying

Squeak, ditto on "Have I told You Lately" by Van the Man. Everytime I watch our wedding DVD, I get cold chills (in a good way ;)).

There's a song by an old group named Seatrain called "We Are Your Children Too" that's always good for a lump in the throat.
The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

I hope you dance, Womack,
Angels among us, Alabama,
Spirit of a boy, wisdom of a man, Travis,
Don't stop, Fleetwood Mac,
Eagles Wings, various,
I'll Give You Peace, Patty,
For The Sake Of The Call, Chapman,
Amazing Grace, bagpipes or not, most any version.

Not necessarily in that order.

Surprise, I have frequently declared I am NOT a country fan, and yet the first three are country. Probably because they were part of a ForABetterLife.org TV spot. As much as I don't appreciate the particular religion of the owner of FBL, and how I view the spots as sexist, I do like the basic message they promote.

YMMV;)
Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Find the Cost of Freedom - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Daylight again, following me to bed
I think about a hundred years ago, how my fathers bled
I think I see a valley, covered with bones in blue
All the brave soldiers that cannot get older been askin' after you

Hear the past a callin', from Armegeddon's side
When everyone's talkin' and noone is listenin', how can we decide?

(Do we) find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground

Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground
Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
(Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground)

I must be a bit of a mamma's boy 'cause Danny Boy gets me good and so does this one:

Will the Circle Be Unbroken: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All of my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

However, there is music that I find very stirring. I find it odd how something as simple as a song can trigger an intense emotional reaction. There's something magic about that.

You got that right!!
:P:P:P

I often wonder if the reason I get stirred is the sound I luv- or story being told.....or the lyrics......but then I fall to peices with tunes that I cannot understand lyrics:
(Sigur Ros- icelandic).....sound so crystal clear you could cry http://www.sigur-ros.is/ (scroll down to choose webcast from iceland)

I am hurting from last night, got together with everyone here to listen/watch Hipeponymous.
Re: The Tragically HIP concert -That Night in Toronto-
2 DVD's 5.1 surround, 2 CD's loaded with 37 tunes (The best of the Tragically Hip) makes for a party to be long remembered.

Watching/listening to the concert with great sound got us all stirred ...(along with booze)
Everyone sang their heart away, danced, yelled, screamed lyrics (even if they were not right) for hours on end........and of course those like me ---cried tears of joy.

The band has a diversity from rockin tunes and melodies that grab your heart, they are so complete with lyrics pounding from their hearts....

I get goosebumbs-right through listening to their tunes, and with lyrics like this to sing to:

O' for a good life,
we just might have to weaken
and find somewhere to go

go somewhere we're needed
find somewhere to grow
grow somewhere we're needed
......
let's get friendship right
get life day-to-day
in the forget-yer-skates dream
full of countervailing woes
in diverse-as-ever scenes
proceeding on a need-to-know
in a face so full of meaning
as to almost make it glow

Tears for Wheat Kings,
Sundown in the Paris of the prairies
Wheat kings have all their treasures buried
And all you hear are the rusty breezes
Pushing around the weather vane Jesus

more tears for Courage,

Watch the band through a bunch of dancers
Quickly, follow the unknown with something more familiar.
Quickly something familiar
Courage, my word it didn't come it doesn't matter

and Fully Completely,

Bring me back in shackles,
Hang me long out in the sun.
Exonerate me, forget about me
I recommend measures for ending it.
Lover, she simply slammed the door.
She said, "you're gonna miss me.
Wait and you'll see." Fully and completely.

and Ahead by a Century

First we'd climb a tree and maybe then we'd talk
Or sit silently and listen to our thoughts
With illusions of someday casting a golden light
No dress rehearsal, this is our life
That's when the hornet stung me and I had a feverish dream
With revenge and doubt tonight we smoke them out- You are ahead by a century

And the tune I cannot get out of my mind today.............The Darkest One (video of this tune was played on set with Trailer Park Boys stealing a engine for a truck)

Come in, come in, come in, come in
from under these darling skies come in
it's warm and it's safe here and almost harkening
off to a time and place now lost in our imagination
.....
where the wild are strong
and the strong are the darkest ones
and you're the darkest one

huge tears for:
So Hard Done By

Interesting and sophisticated
refusing to be celebrated
it's a monumental big screen kiss
it's so deep it's meaningless
one day you'll just up and quit
and that'll be it
just then the stripper stopped in a coughing fit
she said sorry i can't go on with this

yeah that's awful close
but that's not why
i'm so hard done by

and my favorite (need kleenex)
Grace, Too

SMiles;)

Been with my hunny for 5 1/2 years. When that song came out (around this time last year) we were having an "issue". That song had me not just teared up, but balling all the time. THEY PLAYED IT ALL THE TIME. And, I couldn't change the station.

THANK GOODNESS everything worked out really, really well. But, when I hear that song now, I'm reminded of that.:(
Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

"Letters From Home" John Michael Montgomery

When my grandfather got really sick and was in the hospital, my dad asked him if he wanted to send me a letter [I was in Basic Training], and all he would ever want written is, "Are you scared? Are your boots muddy". Ever since he pasted away last year, I tear up hearing it.
Also just about any patriotic song the National Anthem, "Heros in the Field", "Angry American", "Have you forgotten", and so many more, give me goose bumps and help remind me why I volunteered to fight in this war. Everyone loses sight of things sometimes, those just help bring me back.

A man will do anything for the right woman,
and when that woman destroys him,
that man will become a hunk of meat with the common sense of a rodeo clown! ~ Christopher Titus
