Olde English

Recommended Posts

Argggh!

I am doing some baking today. Adding 2/3 cup of this and 1/4 cup of that. So... 2/3 is 8/12s and 1/4 is 3/12s... so I need a total of 11/12ths. :S

If you were bad on math, you could just starve.

Or worse, end up like the Scottish where the food is based on a dare, not nutrition.

"Go ahead, eat it, you farggging rhabard..."
"Of course it's got sheep parts in it... not sure which ones..."
"No, I don't know how much. I didn't measure it..."

The English don't even use this stupid measuring system anymore. It's not like a 2x12 is really 12 inches wide either.

So... how many inches in a furlong?...quickly now...

21 minutes to reply, exactly my point. That's why this wasn't a timed test.

This whole OE measurement system was probably a product of too much free time and a gloomy disposition. The Brits are depressed about being weathered in for 10 months of the year. (The other 2 months they are in Zhills wearing Speedos ;)).

Cups are an american measurement. We use Grams and milliliters here in britain.

It's your stupid fault we started using them in the first place. English units are the Herpes Simplex of the measurement world. Once you have them, they're impossible to get rid of.

Sorry bud but it's your fault you STILL have them.

Britan, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and many other countries, converted to metric a long time ago from the Imperial (British) system and the US made noises about doing it at the same time.

However, just like many other international agreements, you guys decided not to bother carrying through cause it would cost bussiness to much money.

In the mean time the rest of the world has moved on to the much more sensible metric system.

Nobody's fault but your own it you don't get your herpies treated.
