yardhippie 0 #2 October 12, 2006 Looks to me like the ONLY difference is the pad. One has on behind the hip ring and the othere does not. skydivex3m 0 #3 October 12, 2006 I have just recieved my new micron with two piece. the one piece pad has a direct connection of fabric between the the two sides, so that it can wrinkle the fabric that goes between the ring and hip when the pads is being twisted in the ring. hope you understand me. I personally dont like that.. I see what you're saying. I dont see the added value of that material my self. ive worn many different rigs, of varying sizes and configurations. I have never "felt" the hip rings. In fact, a rig w/ hip rings, for me, is less likely to have a "feel than wone without rings at all. (saw pictures of how it damages the webbing... not good) Ok, you can still have a 2 piece leg strap, but if they managed to set the 1 piece strap as a standard... riggerrob 558 #9 October 12, 2006 I suspect that the new one-piece leg pads are merely an attempt at reducing manufacturing costs. Hip ring patent-holder, Rigging Innovations has never used one-piece pads and neither did Sun Path on their first thousand or so ringed harnesses. If harness geometry is correct, then padding under the ring is irrelevant. Padding under the buckle is also irrelevant for most men, though padding under the buckle helps on women because their pelvises have a boney lump farther forward. When you get the harness geometry correct, padding becomes a luxury. Once the harness is tightened, the angle between the upper and lower leg straps only changes a little, so two piece leg pads are a luxury. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Kolla 0 #12 October 12, 2006 I've had one with and one without - on my new Micron I have the one piece leg pad and they are super comfortable (I have owned a Javelin & a Mirage as well). Due to working with Isaiah, I get subjected to an unnaturally large number of hop & pops from full altitude, and being comfortable in the harness is important on those long rides down :) As with so many other things, this boils down to personal preference more than anything.
