Second Dytter...

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting a second dytter. I believe there are still L&B Pro-Dytters still floating around... (I think they still have them in stock at paragear)

Does anyone think there is any real benifit to getting the Solo (new L&B dytter to replace Pro-dytter) or is the Pro-dytter basically the same save for the size?

I am currently jumping a demo Solo. It is much smaller than the Pro Dytter and incredibly loud. It is so loud that my tandem students are able to hear it through their frap hat even though it's mounted inside my Bonehead Guner. If I were going to choose between the two I would spend the money on a Solo.

While I personnally jump with a Pro-Track and have found it loud enough for me, I would like to throw this out for consideration in the theme of "Bigger isn't always better"

How loud is too loud? While I realize (first hand) that the audio needs to overcome the wind-noise (I jump w/ a Protec and believe me, there is alot) if the pure emphasis is making them louder, what long-term hearing loss and or tinitis (sp?) risks are we running.

BEFORE YOU START: I realise that not hearing it is also a risk, but if you can already... why buy one that is twice as loud?

I would especially ask this of those wearing full face helmets or even frap-hats as these tend to decrease the effect of wind noise.

Bigger isn't always better, louder isn't always safer.

Just a thought.

Yeah, I was thinking about this both of my helmuts are fairly quiet: A full face Z1 and a RAWA Camera Helmut. I can hear my pro-trak just fine in both of them... Although I suppose one of these days I should probably start wearing ear protection on the plane at which time louder would probably be better. As long as the volume can be adjusted down I think the capability of louder can be better.
