No, not which option to request from the Escort Service, which truck rental company would you recommend for a long-ass distance move. I have to shlep a roomful of material karmic hindrances from North GA to SOUTH South FL soon, and I can't handle doing it in a rattle-trap U-Haul with a busted vent window and seat stuffed with shredded beer cans.

So, who rents trucks with A/C and heat that both work and comfy cabins wherein I can actually HEAR the psychotic right wing talk yobs on the radio? (And on my cell phone.)

Last one I drove was almost 4 years ago, NJ to Ar, towing my truck behind the 14' box. It was a Budget & the box truck was nearly new (I think it had about 1500 miles on it when I left, nearly 3K when it was dropped off).

Probably rented from all of them over the last 35 years & U-haul was the only one that I ever had trouble with. Lost half a day waiting to get a tire replaced once, lost another half day to replace a master cylinder that died on me in Ok, then had one leak water & damage a box of expensive books on a trip to NM.

I would say that which ever one has a return site closest to your destination should be the best choice, but shop them all for $$$$$$.

I had a pretty good experience with Budget- except the tire on the trailer went flat and we waited 3 hours for it to get fixed. Oh and the lights on the back of the big truck went out. But no breakdowns, no major repairs.

I only had to drive a few miles to the U-Haul rental place from my home and do the paperwork in person.

What I didn't notice was that one front top corner of the cargo hold had a crack in it, and it rained hard the day I moved. Some of my stuff got soaked inside.

Penske all the way dude. I moved to Washington State from Taylor Arizona. In September. 25' truck with a tow dolly with my Izusu on the back of it and my pathfinder ran chaser. The Hydrovac went out in it, there was a mechanic there in an hour, part in hand in the second hour and fixed all ready to go in 3d hour. Back on the road dude-Clean everything worked Good company and Good truck. That was 1862 miles my man with 2 kids. Glad I used Penske and full coverage insurance AAA discount. PENSKE all the way baby! I have 4 long haul moves and have used Penske everytime. Great trucks and service. Never had a truck with over 25,000 miles on it. One was brand new.

Whatever you do, BEFORE you drive it away, make them inspect it for damage and write down and mark EVERY little scratch and dent on your rental agreement diagram.

Do NOT drive away with unmarked damage no matter what the rental rep tells you.


Read the above paragraphs 3 times each or until it is drilled into your head as gospel truth. It only takes one time to get into a big fiasco with the return place about who did what to whom and when to make you see the wisdom of it. Fortunately I came out on top of it and did not have to pay for prior damage.

My reality and yours are quite different.

+1 on that U-Haul reservation thing not to mention the POS truck that kept cutting out on one cylinder resulting only being able to go 55 MPH at times on a 70 MPH interstate. Have had no problem dealing with Ryder and Budget.
