I heard about this old school flick and decided to get it on my netflix queue. I just watched it two days ago and this is what I thought about the movie.

1.) first scene is a jump scene and they are flying some sort of 'air ribbon'. A pretty nice way to get the movie going followed by a really low pull on a round.

2.) Almost an hour later we get to the jump scenes but ONLY after 20 minutes of old school 60's soft porn

3.) So we finally get back to jumping again and I see these guys jumping para-commanders with NO PLF whatsoever landing right on their feet(on the tarmac) and then almost right afterwards they pulled their rig off.

4.) The plot was OK...I guess you can tell alot about movies from the year they were made (this one was made the year I was born) Apparently back in the day they thought a plot was more important that just a bunch of action sequences pieced together.

5.) I did learn a lot of history about skydiving while watching the movie...so this "cape" that was mentioned and shown in the movie...was this a prelude to modern wingsuits? I also learned that I'd take my current rig ANYDAY over old of those old round canopies...but I have to give props to those old school fuckers that pulled it off back then...they were WAY more courageous than I had originally thought.

6.) all in all it wasn't a BAD movie...I did learn a bit about the history I never knew before...and I did get to see some 1960's titties...which was a plus, but now that I've watched it I probably will forego watching it again and just tell someone about it instead...

Your thoughts?

The off spring of one of the stunt men is still an active jumper, even if they have carved him down to one leg..."Lyle Cameron Jr."

I jumped with Jr. at Elsinore a lot back in the 80's, I met Sr. at the dropzone I started at in the 70's...yup a chip off the ole block! B|;)

Lyle is still a regular at perris....and at any Airtrash event!

Yup...not much 'new' in the sport really, just reinventing old shit.

For years it was a USPA no-no to jump with 'wings' because like the Hollywood documentary you saw showed...it's dangerous! :o;)

Hi Reg,
Whell, as for landing a "PC" on yer feet!! No problem, that's one of the reasons why PC's were "THE CANOPY" because you could!!!!

As for the "Cape," 'wasn't so much a precursor to todays' wing suits as a reminant of yesterdays' "Bat Wings!!"

As for taking your rig over those old rounds, trust me, if we had rigs back then like we do today, we'd been jumpin' em'!! Ya can bet yer cypress on it!! We didn't have those either!!

BTW those were Sherry North's tits (the dancer chick) but Deb Kerr's were a "stunt double!!"

And what Jim "Airtwardo" said!!!

Indeed there was a long section after the starting action sequence before they got back to jumping, but that movie still had a TON of really good jump time and excellent stunts.

I consider it a must see movie for a skydiver. skipping the drama bits after you've seen it once is reasonable.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I live in Wichita near the Benton airport where the film was made, the hangar is still there where they did some "pre-jump" prep.

My second rig was a PC MkII Comp and yes, I could stand it up - it actually was a lot easier to land than my 135 lol!!!

Wholly crap! I never knew there was such a thing as a 'stunt titty' Guess you never stop learning do you?:)

Hi Reg,
Yup, at that time, Deb Kerr was too "School Marm-ish" and a few paydays past her perky titty daze!! Ya also have to remember the times, "Playboy" still hadn't given anyone a glimpse of foldout pubic hair till I think it was the JAN71 issue!! Gypsy Moths came out in what was it, '68 or '69??

I pulled this off wiki after doing a search for Burt Lancaster

He was romantically involved with Deborah Kerr during the filming of From Here to Eternity in 1953.[5] He also had an affair with Joan Blondell

I wonder if he was hitting that in 1969 when they filmed this movie?

I doubt it....there were REAL Skydivers on site, Burt never had a chance!
