Peeing in the wilderness

Recommended Posts

There was an article in the Tacoma News Tribune about this a month or so ago. It has become such a problem in some areas that there is talk about having hikers carry out their urine too. So, on top of having to haul out blue bags full of shit we have to carefully keep our piss bottles separated from our gatorade bottles.

I'll believe it when I see it on YouTube!

Hey if you mix up the gatorade and piss bottles just think of it as recycling. ;)

The park service should just install some salt blocks for the animals well away from the hiking trails. That way the animals get the salt they need, and they don't have to come into contact with people to do it. Doh!

The goats will quickly learn where the salt blocks are. A fifty pound salt or salt-mineral block is only about $5 - $6 bucks each.

We've all heard the advice to avoid urinating by any water supply, yes? Well, this is the first time I've ever heard this added advice! Really?

Salt Licks!

Funnily enough something i ain't done for some time and yeh well unless on more than a day walk use your common sense and wilderness skill. ! In Scotland there are places dotted about the place Called bothies some have toilets attached to these shelters, some don't have. Stayed in a few and its from bare to but dry to, luxury and maintained by volunteers of http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/

My friend is one of the member's of the Association and they go out and maintain the places, usually having to carry the stuff in by hand. Which can be a long walk, if they are unlucky with the really remote ones. They may get help from the military to take heavy stuff like roofing carried in by helicopter :)

Beautiful. Reminds me of mountain meadows in the Cascades. Thanks for sharing.
