I don't think I'll take a Carnival Cruise.

I never understood the lack of redundancy in these things. The loss of a generator results in the loss of engine power?

I was on a liveaboard off Australia years ago and we lost the one engine. We started drifting towards a reef. We had two 50kW generators on board, and if we had had even a decent trolling motor it would have given us enough steerage to avoid the one stretch of reef we were heading towards.

(Fortunately they got the engine restarted after about an hour of drifting.)

Perhaps some of the more vociferous types in a place that will go unnamed need to take that cruise... seems they are constantly droolling in anticipation for that sort of thing so they could spring into action.

When I climbed Kilimanjaro we had to have a Tanzanian soldier, carrying an antique rifle, hiking with us to keep away the bands of marauders.

I was in Indonesia in October 2001, just after we invaded Afghanistan. Indonesia has a huge number of Muslims, and some of the radical ones were threatening to kill every American they saw. My group of Americans went to a local shopping mall. There was an Indonesian soldier that followed us the entire time. He was about a foot shorter than me, and had a gun that was nearly as tall as he was. The governments want to keep peace with America and keep the money flowing in.
