Hard to understand how a parked airliner could shut down the airport.

Quote from this article: "The aircraft was not blocking either runway, but with all the airport's fire crews tacking the Boeing 787 incident, authorities were forced to suspend all departures and arrivals because of safety rules."

So, basically, sounds like it was all hands on deck dealing with this fire, which would mean no hands available for another emergency, so they just shut everything else down for an hour.

Exterior fire damage to AC is right above a crew rest area.

Smoking cigarettes? Smoking ganga?

Cooking using too much firewood?

Too much Khat?

Right above the crew rest huh ? During my years at Boeing, I knew a few people who'd served on travelling AOG (aircraft on ground) teams. AOG teams would make onsite repairs to planes that could not be moved. Some of the stories they told were most interesting. There ARE parts of the world where airline passengers do their own cooking, in flight, in the aisles, with open gas flames. Here in the US, where it's illegal to even light a smoke, that may be hard to believe, and I'll probably catch hell for being un-PC. But there are still people who play with fire onboard airplanes.

Thats because you don't live in a nanny state.

You didn't like living in the UK - this much has become clear. But you know, you don't need to bash it at every opportunity :P.

The focus of the current investigation is on a ELT transmitter as the likely cause. Of which 6000 similar units are in service now.

And now the workaround is to turn off or remove the ELTs: http://news.yahoo.com/switch-off-honeywell-beacons-boeing-dreamliners-fire-investigators-160554484.html

Irony.

B| Seems like a very stupid 'fix' to me, but I am not an investor in Boeing. Apparently, they think it is brilliant as the stock has gone up based on the concept they could implement this 'fix'. :S
For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
