I find it almost incredulous Tyson didn't know this.

I suspect this was a staged "disagreement" for educational purposes.

Which is what he said at the end of the video.

"And I want to thank Neil deGrasse Tyson for agreeing to be the [airquotes] foil [/airquotes] for this video."
What if the Bible had been written by Stephen King?

I've got a R44 Clipper II. You'd be surprised how far they can glide in autorotation. About 4:1 glide ratio and if you lower the main rotor RPM to 90% it goes to about 4.7:1.

yes - surely he has heard of autogyros and Juan de la Cierva. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_de_la_Cierva

And he must have seen the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice" which featured a Wallis autogyro.

That black R-44 helicopter is based at Pitt Meadows Airport, right across the taxiway from my loft. Pilot Brad routinely takes his bulldog "Bentley" flying in the helicopter. Bentley is a friendly fellow who's favorite pastime is flying.
A few months ago, Playboy magazine did a photo-shoot with near-naked women climbing all over that helicopter.
