  1. I was fortunate to know Ian from Alberta Skydivers. He was a great guy. He always had a smile on his face. He will be missed. Thanks Ian for the good times!! He will miss you!
  2. My parents have finally moved back to Canada after being in Europe for a few years. So I am setting up my fathers theater system into his new home. The problem I'm running into is that TV remote is a universal remote. Yet, there are no IR codes in the manual for a Pioneer D510 amp. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a source for IR Codes? The TV is a Samsung LA32R8 (PAL). Thanks!

  7. Anyone know where I can find the thread on the Canadian incident?
  8. You are correct in asking which Luongo will show up. A great goalie can beat a good team and history is chalked full of great goalies who stood on their heads to defeat the "so called superior" team. Roberto Luongo can be streaky and Ryan Miller is probably the best goalie out there right now. But never could out someone like Martin Brodeur. Time will tell ... let the real season begin. As a Canuck's fan, I am worried which Luongo will show up. Roberto has shown that he can be a good goalie. However, he has also proven time and time again, that he needs improvement with his consistency. Yet, the team in front of him have a great chance of getting pst the first round! Go Canuck's Go!! Well, he was good enough to win an Olympic Gold! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't shitting myself when Babs put him in the net. I always used to think that Marc Andre-Fleury wasn't good enough to win a Stanley Cup...had to revise my thinking last spring. We'll see... Funny, I was thinking the same thing last spring as well! I think Lou is a good goalie, not the greatest. He is by far one of the better goalies Vancouver has had over the years. However his tactic is one that sometimes worries me. I would love to see Miika Kiprusoff in nets from Vancouver! (Yes a Canuck's fan can dream! That would piss off Calgary fans!!)
  9. As unfortunately as it is, it has been pointed out that skydiving has inherent risks. So does bungy jumping, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, riding motorcycles, climbing, etc and many other activities that people choose to do to have fun. The best way to prevent accidents/mishaps in those risky activities is to avoid participating. No one needs none of the above listed to survive. What would my family do ? Bitch and whine and accept the fact that I was aware of the risk and entered the activity with eyes wide open. Sierrasmom22, as Likestojump mentioned ever sport has it's own inherent risks. I have had CO poisoning once from a bad air tank in Scuba diving. I have been swept away in an avalanche despite the risk being at 'Low'. I have broken 3 fingers once from playing basketball. I've broken my nose playing with a nephew. I rolled my ankle walking down the stairs. Accidents do happen, even when we plan to avoid them. Unfortunately, risk is a variable in Life that we must accept. Sorry for you Loss.

  11. I've had a lot of success with this company. I like the fact that some models have 3 axis points for fine tuning the TV to make it work for the room. http://www.closystems.com/default.aspx
  12. >> but I don't know any scuba divers that know dead divers. I can give you the name of 7 buddies that I no longer Scuba dive with.
  13. I've spent 15 years working in the scuba industry, and I have seen much changes in the sport. The biggest problem I see, is the lack of respect for safety. PADI does acknowledge the need for more focus on safety. Yet, it is still not a topic that PADI likes to discuss, sometimes comparing the safety to Golf. Here is a thought for all you scuba divers out there; How many O-Rings does your 1st Stage have? 2nd Stage? SCR/CCR? I take comfort in knowing, that I can inspect about 90% of my Vector during packing. Whereas, in scuba I can do about 20% without the need to strip it down, a task that does have its risks. To the OP, both sports have risks. Until people get over that initial fear of falling, I don't think scuba & skydiving will be on the same level of acceptance.
  14. I operate a security consulting business, that I started a year ago. A former client of mine, from a previous employer, called me up on Tuesday and threw me a challenge. My client asked if I would be interested in a bid to add a few CCTV Cameras (Supply Only) to a couple of aircraft for a commercial they are working on. The two problems are, the deadline is on Friday. The second problem is the mount is much larger than cameras the client wants to use. A large specification was the mounts could not be altered in any form or fashion, because they are approved by the FAA. Since the 'U' bracket is wider, wide almost 6", I am thinking of creating a custom carbon fiber housing, similar to the camcorder boxes. Due to my many jumps, I am unfamiliar with most of the helmet companies. I don't know which companies offer custom work, let alone whip up a quote in a matter of days. However, I'm sure some of you here might be able to point me in right direction Thanks ever one!
  15. ** Warning Canadian Speaking... so my pricing will be a little off ** I am a co-owner of a company that specializes in Residential and Commercial A/V designs and installs. The budget that you have set is going to be tight, but still possibly doable. First, what size of LCD screens do you want? As the size with dictate your budget price. Second, you have mentioned you want to add a projector, there for you'll need a screen to go with that. A midrange projector can run anywhere from $2500-$5000 CDN. Then a decent size screen such as 106" will run about $1300US. So your budget is almost gone with the 5 LCD screens. As far as HDMI cables, there are expensive. Yet, there are other options out there that work awesome. I prefer using CAT5e wiring since it is much cheaper than HDMI, plus nicer to work with. I can send 1080i signal through the CAT5e wiring to the TVs. On both ends I use a HDMI plates, so the end user just needs a short 3ft HDMI to plug into the TV from the wall plate. ( www.muxlab.com ) There are a few options when it comes to video switching. I prefer using Russsound, since this company is solid. It is possible to have up to 12 different inputs (Sat/Cbl, BD/DVD, Computer, ipod, etc) directed to several different TVs or all the TVs to one source. ( www.russound.com) Another company I have recently become a dealer for, with much success is Zektor (www.zektor.com) The down side to the Zektor Prowler unit is that it is an 8 zone system. Which is great for residential but a little limited for the commercial end. This unit is a time saver as it does everything over a single CAT5e line! Saving both time and money installing. This unit will set you back about $3500US. A video server is easy to build and any computer shop will be able to build one for you. However, I believe the server should be NO smaller than 2TB. The other notion to look into is, where you're going to place all the hardware. I suggest placing everything into a media cabinet, which is air cooled and rack mounted. This makes it easier to look after, as well as protects your investment from theft, as this cabinet should be locked at all times. Lastly, one needs to think of the TV mounts. If you thinking of wall mounts, than Bestbuy will have them in stock, for about $125US (i think). Yet, if you want ceiling mounts, hanging from an I beam, than the mounts are a bit more expensive. Another company I've been using with much success is CLO Mounts. ( www.systems.com) These mounts are wonderful for a bar, as the mounts motorized, useful in fighting afternoon glare! Feel free to PM if you have any questions!
  16. What is it that you like about the CSPA? Not here to start a fight, but more out of curiosity, as I am only familiar with the CSPA.
  17. Go to your local MEC in Vancouver. MEC has a commercial division, that deals with Fall Arrest/High Angle Rescue. I've used this department many times, for those hard to find items, for a Search & Rescue team I was on.
  18. Hey Heatmiser! Good point you bring up here! I hope I don't come across sounding like an ass, it is not my intent here. First, I am a professional Low Voltage Electrician. This is how I make a living so I can live. If there are people that have the income, AND want these types of systems I will do the work. With that being said, I do have a few community charity's that my company supports. My business has donated both labour AND hardware to a youth drop-in center that was built. With state of the art multi media, lighting and security systems. I donate a Home Theatre System to a local Cancer Foundation for their annual fundraiser each year. I have been doing this now for 3 years running. I also volunteer at a center for teens living with Epilepsy and Brain Injuries. Ok, so its not putting food on anyone's table, you've got me there But I do feel that I am trying to put an effort at help those less fortunate then me. I do this year round, oppose to some people that think December is the ONLY time to think of those less fortunate. So this Heatmiser is how I am able to grow my business, but still remain connected to my roots. EDITED: For spelling
  19. Wonder if the neighbors share that opinion. Lmao... About a week ago, I had the cops called out to a house I was installing asystem like this at. A neighbor had called the cops say that we were about to harass her. I had to show the cop the program, how it will only be on between the hours of 1700- 2230hrs... AND that it will only activate when a car is within 20ft from the house. Plus the lights will turn off once there is no cars within that 20ft radius. Just to address the concern of the neighbors. The cop wished me a Merry Christmas and walked to the neighbor's house, and I never saw them again!!
  20. Funny you say this!! I have just finished off with my last client of the season for doing this to their house today!! This can be a little expensive, but for the large majority of my clients, I have designed their houses for this event when I build the home. So this is another 'Smart Home' feature. The key componet for this to work, is a Universal Powerline Bus (UPS) to regulate different voltage drops, this does the commands for lights to turn off and on. Which every smart home has as this is needed for all the lights settings of the home! The hardest, and longest part of the install, is the actual programing. My latest home took me over 100hrs to write, since I need to integrate the lights with the Audio portions. I usual start programing in September to be ready for the Christmas Season. (However, I start programing in May to be ready for Halloween too!) Now what if you don't have a Smart Home? This is a little more difficult, but it is possible! If you just want outdoor sockets for Christmas lights, the investment is about $4500CDN installed into your home. Where as a home can range from $10k all the way up to $150K CDN (the most expensive home I have done to date). Regardless, if your just looking to do christmas lights, a system will be around $4500CDN. (Yet, I am looking at designing a system, that I can rent out for the Holiday Season so that people can still do with less expense. This system will also power the christmas lights so it doesn't hose your electric bill on top of the rental cost! Though I am looking into if this would be a good business venture. Or if this will be more headache then it is worth.) Oh the wonders I can do with PCI Boards and A/V equipment!!
  21. Hey Jerry! I've been using, with great success, the Rhino 6500 for all my label needs. The downside, is that I had to get Windows specifically for my Mac's to make it work. However, I've been quite pleased with the Windows for Mac. My life has been simplified since crossing over this bridge. I have the best of both worlds!!!
