  1. so they had their handles under their suit (needed to unzip before cutting away and pulling reserve?)?
  2. its not that we dont believe you can land well for 16 jumps without getting hurt. You could probably easily land a velocity loaded at 2.2:1 in ideal circumstances. Its that in the worst possible scenario most experience people doubt you have the safety margin with 1.4 WL to deal successfully. That takes hundreds of jumps to build up experience so that you can stay safe in all possible scenarios. Why would you want your hobby to be a ticking time bomb (sooner or later kind of thing). enough said...I have thought these thoughts out based on personal experience and advice given from close friends/mentors. After 3 years of skydiving and over 300 jumps I still jump a 1.2 because a safety margin is nice.
  3. I would want to test out pretty much the exact setup I was going to fly if I were going to be kicking balloons in y wingsuit
  4. great! Can somebody post a thread containing the link with the video...I am interested how this will go in the meeting. peace and happy flights!
  5. can you describe more what "prevents the cup" means? Does that relate to other brands of suits or is it specific to this type of suit? awesome posts so far
  6. Any way you can record the meeting where you discuss wingsuiting and make it available to us to review???
  7. sure why would you convert a jump from 5,000' feet into a single parachute jump if you are carrying two parachutes?
  8. haha that made me laugh. If thats true then thats incredibly retarded behavior.
  9. well I think intentionally carving 90 degrees on a swoop and having to abort a swoop because you're too low are different things and take a different mindset. Some of his swoops would have really scared me how low they were...but maybe I just scare easily under canopy
  10. she gave you the best possible advice. It really depends on whats out there. I got a mirage G3 with sabre2 150 and PD reserve with argus AAD for 1800 USD. I had to buy everything separately and have my rigger assemble it. You have to be rigorous with bargaining people down and you have to be willing to pass deals up if they arent the best possible price you could pay. my general price point that would break the deal: 400 for container 400 for reserve 600 for canopy 400 for aad ymmv!
  11. what happens with you and the fence if you have to abort your 90 left because you're too low?
  12. alright...you're right those old days are gone now lets get back to discussing which is better phoenix-fly or tonysuits.
  13. ^ haha everybody is so quick to jump down my throat because they THINK I am talking about buzzing somebody under my wingsuit. And DSE posted the most graphic video ever. Thats the summary of the thread in case you didnt want to read. If you want to follow the intent of the thread then we can talk about ettiquette of fly-bys, what YOU think about yourself (especially if you're doing them!). A highly respected wingsuit instructor posted about how he has fun doing it. And nobody else talks about what rules we should follow as a community (safe distances, etc). THAT (not talking about an important aspect of our flight pattern) is what will get USPA and the FAA regulating wingsuiters.
  14. With this line of thinking, please do us all a favor and reveal your real name and where you jump. I'm sure there are more than a couple people who would like to avoid both you, and anywhere they might end up in a plane with you. choke back your indignation, stop, and read. Did I ever say that I thought it was a good idea to buzz anybody? I was asking what people's ettiquettes were about the manuever...because I have read a wingsuit instructor on this site say he likes to do it (skymonkeyOne). Again, personally I do not want to get any closer to somebody under my wingsuit as I would normally under canopy. That is, I like to give clearance. Just slow down, Dave. You're too jumpy
  15. Check this out @ 2:43 to get an idea of what is possible. horribly graphic, terrible.
  16. interesting! This kind of attitude (like it is unsafe) I have not found yet...but I am sure some people agree with you Mccordia. I have been asked to do fly-bys because it is "cool to watch". I honestly dont feel comfortable concentrating on a fly-by that low around deployment altitude (I deploy 3k-4k where most flyby's would occur). Mccordia, do people at your dropzone also find it to be unsafe to do 2-way stacks with CRW canopies or do they find it unsafe to do relative work with somewhat loaded elliptical canopies??? I reckon its about the same level of safety risk as a wingsuit fly-by.
  17. I tried this thing, called reading, I laughed at this, Dave!
  18. whats your opinion about flying by canopies while flying your wingsuit? I'd love to hear the ettiquette, safety, etc of it in your opinion, your dropzone's rules, whatever. personally I think the same boundaries should be kept as you keep with other canopies while you are under canopy (that is you should consider yourself under a canopy and not unnecessarily get close to somebody under canopy).. unless you have discussed prior with the canopy pilot then its all fair in the fun of getting as close as possible you want (some people even dock on canopies apparently!) I've never heard this discussed before so would love to hear input..
  19. ^ why can't the people in wingsuits turn their wingsuits and find airspace that is clear of any traffic? Why is it so much more complicated at their dropzone for the flight path of the wingsuiters to bear off the clusterfuck of opening canopies? I've jumped many times with 20-30+ people in the sky on the load and if anything I feel safer in the air because I have a wingsuit. I am over everybody (except the clear and pullers if there are any) and can guide my flight to a clear space to deploy. Is the DZO feeling the lack of training there? I'd thought that was COMMON SENSE to fly in clear space!
  20. well I was psyched to talk about what seemed cool to me and I never claimed to be an expert. but whatever guys! enjoy your life
  21. My god are you dumb and convinced that you know everything about everything. Given the massive WL of a wingsuit, and the shit aerodynamics, what sort of duration would you expect the effects of a 'small dive' to last? One second? Two? Half a second? Would there even be a tangible result in terms of GR? Get over yourself, and go sit with the other 'average Joe' types who think that proxy flying is anything but an average WS flight next to a very steep mountain. Here's a hint for the next time you watch a proxy video on Youtube (which I can only assume will be within the next hour), look at the trees, and their angle relative to path of the WS pilot. Trees always grow straight up, so the angle of the trees to the ground will show you the truth of the matter. holy shit man do you have a stick up your ass!
  22. so The111 is there a magical point where a dive can generate a 'swoop' and before that it does not effect the subsequent GR during a flare at all? I think your theory is off but eh i dunno i think any extra speed from a small dive will help subsequent flare and GR of the flight compared to initiating flare/planeout from no dive (steay state flight as you call it).
  23. why include the rating, why not have USPA continue to compile information about safe wingsuiting (like the BSRs) and come up with a standardized FFC. Then experienced wingsuiters will have a manual that they all agree on that they can teach from. No need for ratings at all. Let the dropzones decide on a local level who is experienced enough to teach their own skydivers how to wingsuit skydive.
