  1. Thanks, ryoder, spage, mrubin and obelixtim Yep. The more I learn, the more I'm aware that there's, well, a lot more to learn! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  2. New post! Sorry about taking so long! The Elusive A My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  3. What? No "Flight Trash?" My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  4. Ok we have some good ones here. I'm compiling a list for a whuffo girl I'm trying to impress. How about "flying fatty"? hmmm.... "Human hail" My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  5. Well it'd be beyond stupid if I did it at that many jumps- there's so much more basic and intermediate stuff I need to learn- and get comfortable with- first. Maybe this guy is more knowledgeable and at ease than I am. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  6. Funny stuff. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  7. Hey, thanks for telling me this! Good luck on AFF level 4. As you've no doubt been told, it does get easier! That being said, when people leave the plane before me, Frogbrain says "People are falling off an edge and that's bad!" But then I'm out the door flying/falling with that amazing view and I'm thinking "Whee! &@!! you, Frogbrain!" My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  8. ...and after dropping a whole foot you will limp!!! SCNR The right attitude, but I'm pretty sure you'll do it next time. Finger crossed.
  9. Sorry I couldn't find this clip in English. If memory serves, he's ordering champagne, with ice... Time Bandits Clip My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  10. heh heh My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  11. Good point. Modern marvel? Check. Dead celebrities? Check. Irony? ("It's unskinkable... ...whoops!") Check. Plus the story sounds like something from old mythology, where uppity mortals create something to challenge the gods. It never ends well... I think people might be hard wired to like (or at least share) this kind of story. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  12. "Cabaret"(both stage and film version) is my favorite. I think I'd like the "Threepenny Opera" too (I have two versions of the soundtrack) but I've yet to see it in person. I like "Evita" too. "Phantom of the Opera" is a lot of fun, but I'd like it better if, at the end, the heroine told both The Phantom and her suitor something like "Actually, the both of you are annoying. I'm outta here!" My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  13. The accidental foot in the bowl as he tried to regain his balance was a nice touch. I wonder if we're hard wired to be a bit nervous about spiders, even when we know we're dealing with harmless ones? I don't have a problem scooping one up to take it outside (well, not the poisonous ones). Once I took one outside by holding the end of his "thread". Like the guy in the video, I was admiring the creature- -then it zipped up the thread and scurried up my arm. I freaked out! (Okay, I didn't scream of fall over, but my specimen was a lot smaller) My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  14. Good point. And who knows? If the tandem student has a good experience, maybe they'll want to learn how to do it on their own...
  15. Good one! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  16. I'm straight, but I never had any desire to procreate. One could argue that this doesn't benefit society (at least in the unlikely scenario that everyone felt that way). Should this be considered a flaw that needs to be fixed? My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  17. Wow, I'm impressed. Most students I know remember it just after they landed. So goodonya and you obviously did well as I read that more than a dozen other parrotshooters landed really off. Thanks. I saw right away how distant I was and did everything I knew (which is, of course, limited) to get back... ...until the "uh oh, I better pick an alternate place to land" moment. Check with me after a few hundred jumps.
  18. Good. A lot of people don't get the mag..... And some of us prefer the original versions much much more than the edited ones. I understand they have their reasons for the changes, and they aren't all that much, but they lose something. The description of the exit and freefall was trimmed just a bit. But it seemed to take away a lot of the feel. And the very small "flappeta flappeta" from the slider was missing too. It's one of those little details that add an overall "richness" to the whole thing. Thanks. I didn't even notice the "flappeta flappeta" detail was missing. (Let's hope I'm more alert when I'm under canopy!) Some of the verbal editing was at my suggestion, so it wouldn't be too wordy. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  19. Thanks for asking! I'm definitely still planning to post online versions of my work. I've been lagging behind due to a combination of working overtime/computer problems/family problems/not-jumping-because-the-weather-is-bad. I've actually written most of the post about my latest jump, but I still need to draw the pictures.
  20. So in addition to being safer and helpful, it'll provide new material? I like it. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  21. FWIW, the day that you landed "off" (you were still on the airport, just not in the designated landing areas), there were at least 10-15 off landings that day due to winds. A tandem landed at the motoX track too. I got a good chuckle out of the woman that landed in the dairy, her rig will smell like Holstein for a long time.... That's not excusing your "off landing" but it's important to keep perspective to what else happened that day. Uppers of 55mph were pretty intense... That's true. I'm not blaming the wind for everything... ...but I'm surprised it didn't blow the paint off the planes. I'll look into this. Time and time again I've heard this is a wise thing for a noob to do! Also, I've seen a few videos of landings gone wrong thanks to gusts, turbulence and other "surprises." That alone is incentive to learn more canopy skills. I realize nothing will make me bulletproof, but if it helps, I want to learn how to do it. The "Fear" and "Inner Critic" characters would get jealous! They demand top billing. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  22. Gold Falcon. "High in the sky" That must be pizazz-y shorthand for "White Duck" My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  23. Whooohooo! Thanks wolfriverjoe! That's my plan. There's a lot to learn and I wanna learn it!
  24. Do I know you in real life or is will this be an honorary placement?
  25. Or maybe he doesn't like ducks in general? Oh, I did the half breaks trick alright. I would have landed further off without it. Hey, I got my instructor's rating just so I could BE a jerk. You mean that's not the right way to deal with people??? Don't give me any ideas! Probably belly flying and learning more about controlling the canopy. As for the gear- that's overwhelming! So many choices. Check with me after a few hundred jumps.
