  1. The same could be said about the people wanting to keep the names. Put on your big boy pants and get over the name changing.

    covid-19

What I'm curious about is whether these places who were able to successfully block it early will now have to perpetually be on their guard. Remember, we're headed towards herd immunity but it could take a long time to reach that, years to accomplish worldwide immunization and decades for eradication. In the meantime these are populations which have not even gone through the first cycle.
  3. Certainly. But maybe it would be good to focus on recruiting the type of person who never wants to use their firearm through the course of their career.
  4. I'm curious how many of these incidents involved a person with a firearm? I think we can all say that it is very justified for a police officer to use deadly force if a subject has a gun. Additionally, gun ownership is barely restricted in the US considering the hodgepodge of laws from state to state. Could it be said that the two issues go hand in hand. Cops know that people might be armed and when the situation escalates they justifiably fear for their own lives. Yes, I'm asking if lax gun control is a factor in our overall tendency to kill our own citizens. Is it unrealistic to think cops operate at a heightened stress level because of the quantity of guns on the street? This makes no excuse for the racial issues we've discussed but I think it's factor.
  5. When I went to Jesus camp in middle school the camp owner/Reverend would ask about my area because that's where he grew up. He always asked if the blacks had taken over and destroyed it all.
  6. She was a woman, who despite much fame during her own time because of her pontification over economic concepts, could not even manage her own finances and ended up penniless and living off of the exact government funded social security programs she spent her life deriding.
  7. You have not been able to provide any validation of this.
  8. Her economic concepts were simplistic beyond reality. She had good warnings to make about the economic and societal systems from which she and her family fled (The Soviet Union and elsewhere) via cautionary tales but when it came to explaining what TO do she could only prop up her points by creating fictitious worlds in which people acted in a comically monolithic fashion. Her Opus, Atlas Shrugged reduces people to either lazy socialists or fanatical perfectionists. There was no mention of the the idea of economic stratification or monopolies and if someone couldn't produce the absolute finest product of any type they would be content to leave that field and work at a sandwich shop making the finest hamburgers. It also leaves no room for the spectrum of individual taste in a product or even the budget with which various groups would choose to build something. It's as if every bike and bridge and screwdriver should be made with only the finest steel or not be built at all. It's as if any art or invention should not exist unless it could immediately prove to be economical upon inception so there should therefore never be any societal or tax based funding toward science or the arts.
  9. This Mogadishu you speak of...I do not think it is what you think it is.
  10. Well, there might be a Trump Library. I say might because I doubt Trump would have any desire for something in which he sees no value so I'd be surprised they build one. What would go in it?
  11. I believe he blamed the lax gun laws on the US for the ease in acquiring the weapon, not his decision regarding what to do with it. It's telling that it was easier to cross national borders and smuggle it in than to purchase it within his own country.
  12. Additionally, nobody knew this would result in that person's death and probably didn't even know the position they held him in could lead to his death. They only knew there was no reason to keep this person pinned to the ground as he was in obvious agony while not resisting arrest.

    Antifa poll

Certainly, they're nowhere near what the Klan is, there's no Yin to Yang. I'm using that comparison just to express a concept of whether you can say that being X also means you're Y. I disagree with them because when their members use force to block free speech (a Fascist action) they do not speak up against it as just being "out there stuff". Since they don't then it defines them in my eyes, it's a very slippery slope towards being exactly what they profess to fight against. By the way I personally like seeing Nazis getting punched. Sorry, guilty pleasure. I still say they shouldn't but I don't really shed a tear over it.
  14. They live in constant fear that others will give them the same medicine they would give others. I thought the bit of cinema that caught this concept the best was in The Green Mile when they put Percy in the solitary room, he thought they were going to put him in with Wild Bill because that's what he would do.

    Antifa poll

We need to work on how we see our spectrum and venn diagrams a bit. My view is that you and I are not any more Antifa than any typical conservative is a Klan member. They may operate along the same spectrum but they are very much on a parallel line outside of our diagram. I realize you marked yourself as identifying as "antifa" so I'm saying I disagree with your definition of what Antifa is. Agreeing with some of their points doesn't make you Antifa, your similarity ends with that agreement because they have an "AND" written into their code which when we get to the line "Disagree with Coulter" their line continues "AND physically block her from speaking on college campuses and punch people who show up to support her". If I were somewhere protesting and I saw that it was being taken over by Antifa members I would leave just as I would expect conservatives to leave when Klan members started leading the march. I do not think either group is "good people". For the sake of discussion I don't want to make any more hard and fast definitions because it's apparent that I agree more with cliched conservatives about what Antifa is so I want to hear the thoughts of those who disagree with me.

    Antifa poll

You're responding to me but it can't be said whether EITHER group on the bottom is ANTIFA. Is that an accusation I've missed?

    Antifa poll

I answered no because there's little context for this except the loosely organized group in the US referred to as ANTIFA. While some of my views align with their goals I do not agree with any of their methods. They are a mob at best and use force to elicit change and to suppress speech, the exact thing they claim to fight against.
  18. Telling someone they do not belong in this country is classifying them as being inferior. That's what happened in this video. Europeans took over the country after hundreds of years of disease and warfare against the population of Native Americans throughout and Latin decedents in the SW. Those people were not able to hold the land. So saying: "They didn't lay claim and own it. . . . and if they did, then they didn't defend it well enough." is not a validation for a white person telling someone of Latin descent that they don't belong in this country. I realize you feel like I'm putting words in your mouth so I'm attempting to clarify the entire message of what someone like a woman in this video is attempting to do.
  19. And that has nothing to do with whether one US citizen is inferior to another.
  20. Enjoy the 3 pages of discussion you're about to have regarding what defines genocide.
  21. It's funny seeing a white person tell anyone of Latin descent that they're in the wrong country. Sorry to say but they were crisscrossing this continent thousands of years before Europeans.
  22. Looting is a biproduct of social unrest but I find it to be unexcusable.
