  1. I'm guessing that USPA has lawyers? Not a bad thing for them to look into. But aside from punitive consequences...it's everyone's responsibility to observe the "beer light" and to enforce that with their peers. Screw worrying about getting sued, let's all stick around for the next load. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    New USPA Regs

That sucks. Those solo jumps sure do get boring, "Yup, 6 grand, still falling, yipee." What's the point in requiring more of them. That's the point when a novice should start jumping with other people. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  3. Yeah, also that could probably be 10 off field landings onto who knows what. Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    Engineers

So I'm sitting here in my 8x10 cube at work where I'm an engineer and realizing that my workspace in college was nicer. The irony is that one of the projects we're going after is the redesign of the engineering building of my "college." Oh yeah, I'm going to screw them over. Damn, I wish I were back in college. 5. Hey Ranjit, here's what Wendy had to say when I asked her about it. To: faulknerwn Date Sent: Aug 30, 2002, 12:30 PM Why no AAD for CRW? Yeah, I know the answer is somewhere in the mass of threads....sorry, lazy today. In return I don't ask for a long response. Would a downplane create the speed to set off an AAD? From: faulknerwn Date Sent: Aug 30, 2002, 12:35 PM Mainly because a misfire (and yes, Cypres's have misfired more than once) is pretty much gonna be fatal. Cuz you now end up with your reserve launched through/around someone else's main and your main and you have a giant mess on your hand. Have I done CRW with someone with an AAD? Definitely. Would I ever put one in a dedicated CRW rig? Nope. A Cypres is designed NOT to fire if anything at all is out. So in theory, a downplane, a wrap, or anything else like that wouldn't fire it. So if works as designed, it'll never help ya in CRW because CRWdogs don't die because of too little out, we diec because we have tons of shit out. So if working as planned, it won't save you, and if it misfires, it'll kill ya. So there's no real incentive. And while I will do CRW with someone with an active Cypres, I would never do it with an active FXC or Astra. Those misfire way too often - a misfire on a Cypres is a much rarer occurrence. 6. How about a crank to your ankles flare until you're through? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  7. Why not grab a couple of guys with demo experience to jump with you and organize? Depending on the male to female ratio at your school I doubt it would be hard to persuade a few fellas to partake in the jump and post graduation parties/tailgates, etc. A bunch of divers coming in would definitely be more fun than just one.... This way it's someone who knows all the hurdles and can take care of planning, preparation, while you get your paperwork out of the way. Good luck! -doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  8. I'd like to hear some discussion based on Wendy's post in Safety and Training: "Recently before I arrived at the dz for the day, several young jumpers went up to do CRW. They all had done a couple of CRW jumps with me, but really at this stage just know enough to get themselves into trouble. They built the stack with the 1-1 loaded canopy on top, the heavier loaded ZP second, and a 1.8 loaded Jonathan third. They didn't understand the concept of the fast canopies MUST go on top - anyone who's ever been around a stalling stack will never make that mistake twice. There were pictures of it with the bottom canopy deformed and I'm just thankful that it didn't stall and cause cutaways/injuries and possible death." My DZ is starting to get pretty serious about CRW under the tutorship of a few guys with moderate CRW experience and one (Larry Westby) with the most extensive experience. We jump a variety of canopies and do stacks based on loading. Most canopies are regular Triathlons, then there's my 9 cell Paraflite Turbo ZX, a Lightning, and a random something here or there. We'll get to diamonds once we have dedicated crw canopies to jump but we're keeping to stacks right now. We got a 5 stack with me pinning 4th and then a Triathlon under me. We held it for a while but the bottom was obviously flying ahead of the pilot (w/ the Lightning) and we started that elephant trunk crap and had to break it down. We're planning an 8+ stack for Larry's 3000th jump in about a month and a half so I'd like to get a good feel for how to stage this. So, please proceed with comments on how to stage based loading, canopy type, canopy angle of attack, zero-p and hybrids, jumper skill, riding out occillations, whatever you'dlike to add. Also, no point in starting a separate thread: comments on crw dedicated Triathlons vs. Lightnings. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  9. Don't worry about all of that. Just have fun, hang out, and when it's time to shut down ask your JM what kind of beer he/she likes. -doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. Even leaving the mesh slider in? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. How about packing a Lightning if you DO want to go to terminal. I've been told that you can pack it like a tandem rig with rubberbands, etc., and that will give a good opening. -doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  12. Don't worry, not trying to attach anything to my canopy, with bubblegum or otherwise. Just looking into options for the fine day when I purchase a dedicated crw canopy. I'm jumping a 185 sf Paraflite Turbo ZX (9 cell) and it's almost a perfect match with the Lighting my instructor/mentor uses. Can you purchase the whole rig with trim tabs, 2 in 1 assists, bells and whistles, or is it all after-market shamanism? I looked on the PD site briefly and didn't see anything but I'm guessing they have people who can hook it up just how you want it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  13. Was looking at the "big ways" article on Wendy's site. Can someone tell me a bit more about 2-1 assists on front risers? Do you have to get a whole new set of risers or can you hook 'em up with a little bubblegum and some scotch tape? I'm deciding whether I should get them when I finally buy a lightning or if I should just do more pullups. Also, any recommendations that this device be left to someone with more than 10 CRW jumps? thx, Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
