  1. I'm still a student but I'm pretty small. I'm only 4'5" although I weigh about 135 lbs.
  2. I did talk to my doc yesterday about jumping and whether I need to get the metal out or not. He tells me that the metal can stay in for now, since it doesn't seem to bother me. I am changing medical insurances in Jan., so I probably will go get a 2nd opinion about whether the metal should stay in or not. While doing tandems, I've noticed that I am REALLY afraid to land on my hurt leg. I am still babying that leg. I am afraid to land on that leg since it is still a bit tender. I am going to get in touch with Brian Germain and see if I can get some sessions with him on dealing with anxiety. Before I can come back to doing solos, I HAVE to calm my anxiety down so I can make on-the-spot decisions that can affect my safety while skydiving. Right now, I am going to use tandems to help me with dealing with and getting comfortable with landing patterns and flaring for my landing. I am very excited about coming back.
  3. I am still a student (freshly off AFF status when my accident occurred). I am assuming that if I do return to the sport, that I will have to repeat one or two AFF levels before I will be allowed to do solos towards my license. Can tandems really be used to practice landings and PLFs??? If that is possible, I might do a few tandems so I can work on that kind of stuff and get the fear out of jumping. I NEED to work on PLF's since I am pretty sure, if I did a PLF with my botched jump, I probably would have walked away with no broken bones. I was taught to do the PLF but I never did it really well. I still am not sure, right now, if I am going to come back and finish out my "A" license. For now, I am just happy, that I have the option.
  4. I'm not pressuring myself to jump on the horse again quickly. I would like to do solos again, I really would. I love being in the sky. But, first things first, I NEED to find ways to keep my anxiety in check, since that anxiety causes me to panic, and make the wrong decisions, thus leading to my accident in July. Only when I can find an efficient way to keep my anxiety under control, will I return to doing solos. I panic too easily and too quickly.
  5. Right now I am open to the idea of coming back to jumping solo, but I want to make sure I deal with my anxiety issues first, since that is integral to what caused me to have my accident. So far, I'm doing tandems and I have fun with them. I am NOT ruling anything out at this time. My PT is going well (almost done with that too). :)
  6. Yep, it's a lot of metal. I have 2 plates and probably about 14 screws. Not sure on the # of screws. I flew out to AZ a few weeks ago, and didn't set off any metal detectors at the airport. For now, gonna take it easy, but the door is open to me coming back. Will take my time.
  7. Yeppers!!!!Cool Doc says I am healing very well and very quickly. He says my progress is phenomenal, considering, for a lot of people, it takes at least 4 months to even begin to be able to put weight on the leg. I got my boot off a few weeks ago and started walking and doing normal things with the leg. Got x-rayed today again and you can barely see the fracture and there is a lot of new bone growth. Will do PT, but don't have to see doc again for 2 months. And I have the green light to go back to normal activity (aka jumping again). I am going to take it slow and not jump for another month or more, but, as of now, I can go back to skydiving, if I want. I am stoked :) I'm not sure if I am coming back though. I need to work on the fear aspect. If I can overcome the "anxiety", I will think about it, but that is key. But, as of now, I am pretty healed up. :)
  8. very nice!!!! Glad you passed the level!
  9. Sorry, I meant there is 1 or 2 messages that are missing. In the messages area, there is no "trash" section for me to retrieve any accidentally deleted messages.
  10. One or two of my emails are missing. I don't remember deleting them. They were from last week. Is there any way to retrieve them?
  11. I'm gonna be there from Fri-Mon, to check out the Nationals and go to the boogie. Maybe I will do a tandem too. Not sure yet. No license yet (and leg is still healing), so no solo jumpie. Definitely plan on going to the Halloween thing on Sat.
  12. Well I am definitely coming to the Nationals now. Just made the hotel reservations
  13. the more I think about this, the more I think it was a stupid decision on my part. I've decided to back out of it. Sometimes, I am too impetuous and hot-headed for my own good.
  14. This was a kind of "on the whim" for me decision. I tend to be like that sometimes (make decisions on the fly). Someone was looking to share some tunnel time with, and I thought that would be something fun to do. Doc cleared me for tandem jumping so I would think tunnel shouldn't be bad either. When I sit back and think it through, sometimes I'm not sure if I make the right decisions. Oh well. Leg is pretty ok. It isn't 15 min straight tunnel time. It's more, 1 min in, then 2 min, etc. I can walk on the leg (was on my feet on and off, for a big part of the day today). I hope I don't kick something. I can land pretty well on my legs I think. Gonna wear some pretty supportive shoes tomorrow. Yes, I know I push things. I'm also hotheaded and do things on impulse (not always a good thing). But I miss sky things (tandem jumping is good but doesn't fill the whole need)
  15. Is it bad to get back in the tunnel, even though I just got my "boot" off my broken leg yesterday? I want to get back in the swing of things and decided to schedule 15 min of tunnel time with some training tomorrow evening. Leg is healing well. I can walk without the boot now, although leg is still not that strong yet.
  16. Sorry to hear that you broke bones in your other foot. That sucks. :( That's cool u are jumping even with broken bones. Best wishes for the rest of your AFF.
  17. If you don't have plates on the car better get them before you leave the state. Normally you have 30 days to get plates after buying a car. Uh oh, I don't have plates on the car yet. The dealer rep told me that the plates and registration would be coming in the mail within the next 3 months.
  18. I do have roadside assistance (as well as a cell phone). I will get the oil changed next week before I go. I love road trips :)
  19. I think I have a temp tag. It's the tag thing that the rep placed on the bottom of my windshield when he gave me the keys to the car. And yes, the car is fully insured. Thanks for the car advice.
  20. Is it bad to take a relatively brand new car on a long road trip (like from CA to AZ)? I got a new car end of Sept and already have 1400 miles on it (just from driving back and forth to DZ and to LA). Thinking of going to Nationals next weekend out in AZ. Also, will there be issues (if I get pulled over, etc), that I don't have my plates or registration yet. I was told by the dealer rep that it could take up to 3 months to get those in the mail . I know these questions sound stupid, but it's been over 12 years since I've bought a car.
  21. Look forward to seeing people there. Just have to plan this out. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to go.
  22. I'll probably go because I love road trips. Also, I can check out the Nationals and go to a great Halloween boogie. Hopefully, if I want to do a tandem out there, they will allow me to do one even though I am still in a walking boot.
  23. Cool. No, I did not go to the Endless Summer Boogie last weekend, but I do know who your son is. I've been out to Skydive AZ (went there in May) and did some tunnel time at the tunnel with Melanie Curtis. That was fun as well as a learning experience for me. Right now, if I do go, I am planning to go next weekend (10/28 -10/31), and so I can go to the Halloween party that weekend too.
  24. Yeah, I do enjoy tandems. If there is a party out there for Halloween, that would be cool. Right now, I am on the fencepost about going. I may try to get a friend to come with me. I also wouldn't mind doing a tandem out there either
  25. I've been to a few boogies at my home DZ and those are fun. Wish there were more boogies around my area.
