  1. yeah, thats what makes it a challenging sport. its being able to keep your commitment going even if youve been spooked or are having a hard time. and some find out its not for them when they get to that time. "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  2. yeah thats the type from upt. im opting for the spectra cable though "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  3. i hear they frequent that part in colorado now "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  4. hopefully the rigger would be able to make that distinction "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  5. yeah almost all of our staff does ff and its really supported at our dz. we even have an introduction to the ideas and safety of freeflying as part of our student progression "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  6. do you think there might be a new generation effect? maybe there is a cycle so to speak. ive seen many new jumpers eager to start freeflying at my DZ, and among the more experienced freefliers we have some decent skill. i think the key to this is in prep and planning though, we definitely have much more successful jumps when each person has a slot and a specific plan. 7. dignity and being cool cost quite a bit too "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  8. well the main reason people buy them is because of the pack volume. if thats not too much of a concern is it worth the extra money? aside from that ive heard its a stellar wing for a reserve "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  9. dont they have a "reserve size that will make my rig look hot but give me atleast a 50% chance of survival on an unconscious landing" box on order forms these days? "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  10. if you need an LED to know your altitude...youre doing it wrong. "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  11. haha i literally just ordered a low profile d ring for my micron after jumping a soft one for about 200 jumps. after putting some jumps on it im not comfortable that i would be able to pull it as quickly as a ring i could hook my thumb through. that being said i also dont like the big D rings in tight exits. what do you guys think about the low pro one? im very upset i actually have to consider these things now that my cypres may or maynot work "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  12. ground rush is way cooler looking than a bowl! sadly you need one of them special back packs to enjoy it moderately safely...and even then its usually in the dark "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  13. definitely get to know your gear as much as possible. once i had taken it apart and seen how it all worked, even watched and helped pack my reserve, it made me a lot more confident. also take some time to look over your gear, not only pins etc, but also wear on leg straps, webbing, stitching etc. but keep in mind, people usually break before harnesses do (hard openings for example) good luck man and keep jumping, currency is one of the biggest tools for comfort "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  14. im not saying youre wrong, i really like my digital altimeter. the point is that although youre at a point where youre soaking up information left and right, you have gained enough experience to differentiate between factual information and info that sounds just reasonable. so when giving your side of something you can phrase it more like "ive had a good experience with..." or "ive heard that some people like this...." instead of your current way of "this is the best" "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  15. lol i like the part where he says " i wanna have fun swooping but not get hurt" sorry man if youre not looking to get hurt in some way or another then choose a different sport. lol "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  16. first, what qualifications do you have to give people legitimate info on whats good to use or not. youre still green man, you havent been around long enough to log any amount of jumps that will give you a say in one thing being better than another. do analogs fail? yes so do digitals. if you cant check an altimeter in freefall without getting unstable you dont need to be freeflying, especially in groups. all gear fails, learn how to judge altitude without it so when you get thrown on a load last minute without your audibles, and your viso breaks on exit, you can still function. your response to many of the comments is ignorant and obviously that of a 100 jump wonder. do yourself a favor and be at least a little humble until you get just a few more jumps under your belt. no one likes the obviously new jumper who throws out blatantly uniformed information. 17. i only freefly because booties make my ankles look big but for real keep focused on exits, tracking, altitude awareness and canopy flight. ive jumped with a few people who have a lot of tunnel time but really struggle to launch a stable exit, or even dive down to a formation on their head or in a sit. and have fun because at the end of the day youll learn better that way! 18. i have a micron and im really happy with the build quality and features. magnetic risers are convienient but not a must have. i think youll be happy with either. "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  19. i have to disagree, thats the funny thing about skydiving, you can get hurt on either side "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  20. i have a v306 (made for a 120) and i managed to get a 135 in there but it was a pain and im a very good packer. on the flip side it fits a 120 perfectly. it was to the point where there had to be no air left or it wouldnt fit. not really fun so i would recommend getting a properly sized container. 21. i have, kid in my dynamics class that had done a tandem. i dont really like them but i would think most people get them when they feel theyve become a skydiver "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
  22. at our dz freeflying is steadily growing more popular, i would venture to say its pretty much a wash most of the time. pretty much all of the staff does some sort of freeflying when we have a load off, we do have a core group of people that mostly only belly fly though. so i would say its 50 50 when considering only licensed fun jumpers. a side note, our dropzone has an introduction to freeflying included in our A license program. it consists of 2 jumps that teach the very basics about what freeflying is and dangers of it (corking, shorter working time, etc). its intended to get new students somewhat familiar with the growing discipline so they can survive when freshly A licensed and trying to freefly. id imagine this has some sort of impact on the number of people who end up pursuing freeflying after student status. 23. dude....you have 19 jumps, youre not even qualified to sign a log book yet let alone give reasonable advice about something in which you have no experience. now focus more on learning how to change a closing loop and what happens when you stick your legs out, than telling people with hundreds or thousands more jumps than you what the proper practice should be. 24. the gopro is more "friends eyes'" friendly though. "its just a normal day at the dropzone until its not" 1653
