  1. Skydiving magazine did a write up on the July 4th boogie at SDD for the Sept. issue. Thats all good, the problem is that they used pictures from SkyFest 04 @ Skydive Spaceland 2 weeks later. The photos from Josh Hill, Brandon Chouinard I know for a fact belong to SkyFest, who I am not sure is Dave Rider? Does anyone know if he was at SkyFest or a Dallas jumper? This usually wouldn't be a problem, but we have tried really hard to let people know that SkyFest is a fund raiser that was started by individuals and not owned by a specific DZ. Dallas gave us three great years, but since we relocated to Spaceland and Dallas decided to hold an event two weeks before ours (with alot of similarities), we just want people to realize the difference. They are two different boogies. I want to send this info to Skydiving Mag. but I need to know about Dave's pic's first. Can anyone help? Both boogies rocked and everyone had a great time from what I have heard!! Just want to get the facts straight. www.skyfestboogie.com
  2. Quote My daughter wants to learn how to pack - She is 11 years old. I have heard of others learning early. She is strong enough. Hell yes let her pack!!! My brother and I were packing by the time we were six. That was the round days with two springloaded P|C's, 4 pin ripcords and pack opening bands. I think the only reason my parents had kids was for the packing. It will give and teach her responsibility and build her confidence. Just remember she might smack you!! Back then we didn't really have to worry about the openings, even with the old squares. But what the hell do I know, I haven't packed in three years and 1100 jumps since I returned and I still have zero cutaways, by the way what the hell is this pro packing??? Maybe I will learn some day? I say go for it, less work for you, its all good!
  3. No Thank you, couldn't have done it without you. I will be posting some stats real soon, give some people some insight.
  4. Yeah???? What bout yours. Ya got any?? I saw the SCR, what about second Gen? How do I get me sum?>
  5. As soon as I get some copies I will post them at www.skyfestboogie.com Do to the lack of time I did not get the collected cd from Eric who was handling the collection of the "official" (whatever that means) SkyFest photos before I left Spaceland on Tuesday[:( I just had the conversation about that today, will work hard on it for you.
  6. I think we can claim an unofficial record, and my mother witnessed it so we can easily send it to Gueniss (sp) Book of World records. It was still pretty cool getting sons, daughters and grandson's of skydivers together in one place, the last time/place I have heard of anyone trying that was in Fl. a few years ago and only 4 showed up. We will do it again and my goal is a 20 way, we had seven not show up this time but I know of at least a dozen in Texas alone. Nice job on video, do we have stills? J
  7. Team will be there working with the X-team "Masters of Disater Act". I will be spending time with the kids. I was going to say, that looks alot like the show I saw at Oskosh last year. It was incredible! the blast then the rush of heat almost burnt your eyelashes! I must say that the show and the commentary really scared me, made me respect the WWI & II. I would not have wanted to have been one of those brave individuals that had to go through all of that: My love and respect to all of those that actually went through all of that! We owe you all!! RESPECT at the least. Really scary stuff.
  8. You know what I love about this thread? Is that everyone seems to be thanking everyone for the jumps they made together? Especially the upcoming jumpers!!! The experienced spent time with the newbies!!!. No matter how the books come out ( I will know in a few days) that, that alone makes it a success!!! This is what the boogie is ALL about, YOU, new or not, its the joining together and creating more skydivers. I will post the results from the donation/registration survey soon, I hope you all will appreciate the love and commitment we try to promote. ALL of you rocked this weekend!!!! I, We are so grateful to each and every one of YOU! Thank YOU , Thank YOU, Thank YOU! More to come!
  9. I am so glad that this subject came up. I just returned from SkyFest 04 tonight and I am pretty tired from the 7 days I spent in Houston for a 3 1/2 day event. I am not going to spend alot of time on this one tonight, but I was thinking about posting something before SF04. Only because we were concerned about the $35.00 fee we felt we had to charge. We used to include dinner until skydivers traded wrist bands for the dinner line and the Scholarship fund was charged an extra $500.00 for people that never registered and that hurt the fund quiet a bit. Someone mentioned a Skyvan ferry fee for $1500.00, well try $4700.00, then a $1700.00/hour helicopter, Balloons, Powered parachute, volunteers, staff, hotels, wrist bands, raffle tickets, buckets, posters, banners, advertisements, traveling, rental cars, organizers(especially when you have 21 of them). I can tell you that the SkyFest average cost is $9000.00 BEFORE the event. If it rains........and you don't show up because of some $40,000.00 /year weather man says it will be bad, then SkyFest will never exist again. Ok I want to share more but I have to go. I will be posting stats to everyone soon. A big thank you will be involved with a different post, even though we came up short this year we will survive for our 5th year, (2005). How about a 7 day event????? I am not trying to be negative, but most people don't understand what is really involved. This thing has consumed my life???
  10. Ok, A shot in the dark but I thought I would try. I am heading to Houston tomorrow for SkyFest and my plane lands at 3:22. Just wondering if anyone might be around to take me from Hobby to Tequila girls house ? I have to try I hope I can organize the boogie better than my travel plans?
  11. Major Zoo load. We have the ability to lift, what 68? We are working on another aircraft so maybe more! Do you think the Powered Parachute can help? On no thats only from 3,500', maybe not. It's gonna be fun fun fun!
  12. Will you leave that little tail out of the shell? I am sure you could find some takers!
  13. Yes it will be for sale. I found some reel to reel canisters in the attic and had them processed. Turns out it contained skydiving footage from the 60's! Really cool stuff. Jerry helped with a scene on one of Raquel Welch's movie when she was 22 so Jerry presented her with a bikini.
  14. I was thinking it and you went and said it Poor guy he was just trying to bring this post back up and look what it cost him! Hey what did ya'll think of the 1968 near miss photo? F--kd up huh? I put that on the front of the DVD cover that will be for sale at SF04. I leave for Spaceland tomorrow, here we go!
  15. I remember that! You have actually helped me out. I have a few jumps in my log book just prior to his passing and they are blank. I know that they were with him just couldn't remember what. Now I do. Awesome. I remember you as well, I think we sat out front on the deck, listening. I was living in OKC at the time and could only make it down occasionally. I only had about 150 jumps. Sorry to hear about your medical situation, hope it works out for you soon. Thanks Again and maybe we will cross paths again soon. Blue Skies
  16. Well, it is NOW Well the aircraft isn't the problem. I haven't done a real zoo load since your SCR Turtle. Bwwaaahahahahah I couldn't resist!
  17. The second is ughhmm an infamous pilot flying a Bell 412 while SD AZ.'s SkyVan is taking off, Quote Oops I stand corrected Bell 407 Thanks Hooknswoop
  18. The toggle pressure is very high. The response is very slow to toggle input. Wooden toggles BTW. The wing is very "soft" like it wants to accordion all the time. I put it in a straight and level stall big mistake! The lines are so long that when it finally goes you get a ton of slack in the lines so back in freefall I went. Doing a 180 turn and creating a line twist. The risers are so long that you have to fight to get the twist out, the canopy doesn't help. You start the flare at about 25 feet and it is fair. I stood it up in the peas, almost fell but that was not do to the flare it was that 50 #s of extra weight on my back from the security system. I have put two jumps on it, I thought I would jump it once a year at SkyFest in memory of Jerry, but they only have a 70% chance of opening and I don't want that round reserve so I think I have pushed my luck far enough.
  19. These are a couple of photos taken at SkyFest 03. The yellow/black canopy is a ParaPlane built in 1969 ( I believe) that I jump in Jerry's old Security system in 2003 with a round reserve. We added a slider to it because we didn't have the ropes N rings, but it was a little small and I couldn't get it down. It stayed about five feet above my head and wouldn't go past that. I figured with the approx. 28 feet of lines above my head what's loosing 5 going to do to me? Of course the risers were 2.5 feet long anyway, so WTF? The second is ughhmm an infamous pilot flying a Bell 412 while SD AZ.'s SkyVan is taking off, you think thats great you should see the one with the Heli, and a Crossfire 99 swooping the pond at the same time!
  20. Matt Have I met you? Thank You for the kind words about Jerry. I moved out of state when I was 19 and didn't return to Texas permanently till after his death, so I always enjoy hearing about him. Thanks again Will you make it SkyFest? www.skyfestboogie.com Them boys were crazy back then, yet they didn't even know it.
  21. Spent 10years in Misery I mean Missouri. No its not that bad. Closer to Rantoul, and CouchFreaks. Just glad I left
  22. He had a "L" bracket mounted to the bottom of the camera. That was it, nothing else. Just a firm grip. We still have the camera and it works fine. Amazing stuff.
  23. I was designing the cover for the DVD we have just finished with vintage skydiving footage from the 60's and came across this photo. Jerry Schrimsher took this photo in 1968. Can't tell you if this was planned, but what a plan if it was. The Nikon (carried in his hands in freefall) he used back then I believe had a 50mm lens, how close were they? At least with a round canopy you don't have to worry about it driving forward. Don't try this at home! Thought you might appreciate it. I decided to use this on the cover. www.skyfestboogie.com
  24. Confirmed! The Powered Parachute will be at SkyFest on Friday the 16th ready to fly (jump)! Remember we changed the date we start this party on Thursday the 15th. If you have signed up for a Friday morning Balloon jump and a Friday High Altitude (21,000 ') you need to contact Skydive Spaceland and adjust your schedule. You will not be able to do both on the same morning. The Friday morning balloon is too full, we are looking for volunteers to switch mornings, please help us. I think the Mafia ladies are already hiding from us,I haven't seen any responses from them in regards to the SCR Ceremony Please track me down and say hello, would love to put some faces to these names. I will be the guy running around crazy with a radio talking to the other crazy guy with a radio (my brother), we look alike but I have hair (well not much more) Thank you all for your support with this event and this thread.
