  1. I tried to get them to jump even before I made my first tandem. These big, bag cops are afraid. I called them "pussies" and it still didn't work. Oh well, more room on the Otter for me and my cool, new skydiver friends! Tell them you get a free jump ticket for every referral.
  2. My fourth jump was the first time my girlfriend came to watch me. I made my first stand up landing (no radio either). Well, there was a radio, but when he said, "Bob, if you can hear me, turn left. Bob? Bob?" I waited for my name to be called. There were a few other AFFers there (Perris Valley can get busy). When I never heard my name, I knew I was on my own and I didn't want to fall in front of my girlfriend. So, I flaired right on time and stood up the landing nice and gently. The instructor came by and said, "What happened, Bob?" I said, "Who the hell is Bob? My name's PETE!"
  3. So, can he really reach the speed of sound or is that a news reporter not getting the facts straight?
  4. Hey, Wayne. What is the rationale for using base gear from an aircraft? I'm not trying to be a smart ass here. I really want to know.
  5. I am really not a physics person here, so, someone help me out. Doesn't the increase of air pressure at lower levels stop the increase of speed? Or does the fact that this is so high alter the physics here (not being enough air pressure at that high an altitude to to the job reaching terminal velocity)?
  6. I'm one of the few that believed Bill Clinton. I didn't inhale my first time either. I choked and coughed like hell. Then when I finally was able to inhale it (a few weeks later on my second attempt) I didn't get high. It didn't have the same effect everyone was talking about. Go figure. Now morphine...holy shit. I had morphine two years ago in the ER. I can TOTALLY see myself getting hooked on that. Damn, I'm actually hoping to get another kidney stone just to have some more.
  7. Normally. But there are a great many conservatives out there who were just going to sit this election out because of a few liberal views McCain has that are now thinking they might go to the polls. Palin has become a big deal to them. I still don't think it's enough to get the victory, but she's become a political star over night. I'm guessing it's for three reasons. 1. She's more conservative than McCain. 2. In her brief history as governor, she's shown she's willing to be a whistle blower against corruption, even in her own party. 3. She's got a vagina. I'm not sure the particular order of those three, but they're very important to people. I'm an issues and leadership man, myself, and while reason number 2 is actually pretty impressive to me, the issues and leadership are more important.
  8. Isn't pot a staple in Alaska? I'm going there next summer, so I'll let you know. Anyone need anything while I'm there?
  9. Wow . . . this is probably the most ill informed thing I've read today. Say what you want to about Biden, but he knows what is what when it comes to debates. She would not stand a chance in an actual debate with him. Not one chance. It would be like putting a polar bear and a baby seal in the same room. Sure, you -may- root for the baby seal, but, uh . . . not a chance. Wow, talk about making an uninformed statement. Unless you're from Alaska, I doubt you've heard Palin in any debates. I agree about Biden being VERY good at debates, but Palin is an unknown. So...you just don't know. A more informed statement would be that Biden has LOADS of experience on the national level that Palin doesn't. To answer the thread's question. There was some STUPID comments from pundits questioning whether Biden should treat Palin with kid gloves. I doubt he was ever thinking to do that. Biden can be vicious and clever at the same time in debates and a couple of those debates he was going for the throat of Obama. Then when Palin gave her speech at the RNC, it was a pretty tough one. The same pundits said that Biden now had been given an open door to go for the throat and they were asking if her tough speech was a mistake. As if Biden will do anything but go for the throat.
  10. It's in our union contract that we get to whine five times a year. Don't you have a similar contract?
  11. Oh, and I'm a high school teacher. I get paid less than all you guys and I have 4 years of a undergratuate work, early field experience, one year of post graduate work and a year as a student teacher. I know I get summers off, but I need them because (and here's the worst part of the job) I work with...kids. Brrr.
  12. Um...You're freaking me out here a little, man.
  13. So, as most of a America, including myself, was checking out the milf/gilf. Time Magazine was taking a REALLY close picture of Sarah Palin. I got my issue of Time this week and I just about vomitted in my mouth. There's such a thing as too close a picture. I'm seeing little gray hairs on the chin and lip, deep crevaces in the skin that are caked over with base mak-up, and some melanoma-like growth beneath her mouth. Ugh.
  14. I like tennis. Especially women's tennis when the girl in the near court has a tight...um...serve. What golf? On televesion? WTF? Whew. You wouldn't have had to turn in your man card, but you would have had to sign up for the AARP as a senior citizen if you really liked watching golf on tv. God, I'm bored. I'm trying to put two weeks between going to the DZ for the sake of money. So far, it's not working for me.
  15. Shit, for someone who's only seen the UFC a couple of times, you catch on quick.
  16. I agree with you here. The heavyweight division is THIN right now. Dan Severn? Isn't he pushing 50? Don't forget Mirko Cro Cop. He may have two recent losses, but that dude is DANGEROUS. Wait. Now that Coutre is back, Mir VS Nogueira isn't for the title, right? I bet those two are PISSED. Those two should get a shot before Lesnar. Mir especially since he beat Lesnar. Lesnar is a monster at taking people to the mat and not letting them get up, but he honestly can't punch for all his strength. In a three round fight, I think he beats Coutre, but with five rounds, you have to think he'll start getting tired and Coutre can find a way to negate his wrestling. Like I said. I'm wrong a lot on these. I'm not certain about any of this. This is an honest to god great sport.
  17. I know it's two months away, but I was SHOCKED to hear that a guy who's record is only 2-1 is getting a shot at the heavyweight championship. I don't care if he is a big draw. If Randy were five years younger, it wouldn't even be a contest, but age does play a factor here. Of course, I'm saying this thinking that he had no chance against Silvia or Gonzaga at his age and he still beat both of them pretty handily. In fact, I get a lot of these wrong: Jackson vs Griffin, Cro Cop vs Gonzaga, Jardin vs Liddell, St. Pierre vs Serra I, Bisbing vs Hammil. That's why this sport is so cool. It's unpredictable.
  18. The announcer said, "We have not seen the last of Chuck Liddel!" If he's right, that would be a shame. The man got his ass kicked in three of his last four fights and was knocked out by Evans for what seemed like three minutes and was on queer street for another 10 minutes after that. Chuck...retire. No honor lost in that.
  19. That was my first reaction too, but then I got the feeling that he's really already decided to jump and is just posting because he is either the type of person that needs to hear that he's making the right decision or he doesn't yet have the money and he's thinking about jumping so much that he's bored and is posting. For me, I'm trying to space out my trips to the DZ to every other week for the sake of money. I find myslef getting on this site a lot as a result.
  20. You may not be saying that he's just looking for a confirmation of what he's already decided, but I will. He's already decided to jump and just wants to feel someone pushing him out the door. If he does a tandem and his JM is fat, he'll feel a big belly doing the pushing. To the original poster. I got a case of beer that says after you do one tandem jump, you'll be signing up for AFF. It's not a bet. It's just a toast for when you do.
  21. Congratulations!! I still have a copy of my first sports story for the San Mateo Times. It's a great feeling. One thing though. Get used to some bad times too, like when some copy editor decides to hack your story and make it look NOTHING like what you intended it to look like. Still, congratulations. Go celebrate with a jump!
